The Ear Phone Issue

I spend at least 2 hours total every day on/waitin for the bus so havin an mp3 player's nice. anyways, just broke somethin like my 4th or 5th set since last school year. these things keep breaking, what happens is that either the audio stops comin out of one ear or like what recently happened, the audio goes all monotone and really weird.

i know you're sayin 'so what, just buy new ear phones' and that's what i always do, but i'm probably gonna end up spending more money on $15-20 ear phones than the price of my mp3 ($199), and it's annoyin. i'm too **** with technology to go and fix them (i've hear there are ways but i haven't really found a good tutorial on it). i was just wondering if there's anything possible to do to stop them from breaking or which ones are worth buying if they dun break. thing is that i dun wanna spend more than $30 on ear phones if they'll break anyways. And it's not like i'm whipping them against the window or somethin, they just stop workin randomly.

any solutions?

nah, I got 3 pairs f*cked up listening to my iPod (incl the original). but I got these like 3 months ago and haven't got any problems with them.

Yah maybe, those ones aren't the sort you can just get at Wal Mart or Best Buy though probably, I haven't tried the in-ear sorta ear phones though that they're makin so I'll have to check them out. And the mp3's fine, I remember seein something that shows you how to open up the cable in the ear phone, tape the wires at the end in some different way or somethin so that they dun break up.

i'm always breaking earphones - on many sizes and prices of mp3 players too. Even the £30 Sony in-ear ones break on me after a few months.

Now i just cheat and get Sony Ericsson ones designed for phones - they're so much cheaper and i haven't really noticed a significant difference in quality that merits paying £20+ extra on the proper Sony ones.

Only problem is having to find a small mini-Carlos extension cable due to the cable on them being real short.

when i had a nokia phone, i un-soldered the ****ty earphones from the microphone bit and solder on a headphone socket so i could use my normal earphones

I got this one couple of years now and never had a single problem...
Used mostly when I go running and/or jogging. Maybe I'm just lucky, but how do they just break for all the rest of you here

My nokia N70 earphones also work just fine (1.5-2years) tom

My old 6230 ones did, the N81 ones are a pile of poo.

Fortunately the £5 ones i got from Virgin (Zavvi) work ace.

turns out, if you tape them at the end, speciall if you can cut that wrinkly thing at the end off, put plastic wrap/shrink wrap around the wires, and re-coat it with somethin like duct tape (only the 3/4 inch at the end) then it should decrease the chance of them breakin.

Basically ignore what everyone else on the thread has said and by some Shure E2C's. Fairly pricey (they're on Amazon for $72.99 (USD))
but they are the dogs bollocks - best earphones I've ever had, you hear things you've never heard in the music before.
The cabling around the earpiece may go (mine did after about a year) but they have a 2 year warranty so as long as you keep the reciept then send them back to Shure and you will get a free replacement (again, I did).

Depends on personal preference I suppose. They do come with three different types of earpiece all in three different sizes, including some foam ones which I find very comfortable and which block out a lot of background noise.

If you weren't to go for the Shures then I'd probably go for Creative or Senheisser. I'd generally avoid Sony as in all the pairs I've had, the right earpiece has gone very quickly. Phillips are also probably best avoiding - there doesn't seem to be much problem with the quality of the phones but on the ones I've seen and tried the earpieces don't see to stay on very well.
