The Bottom Line

To put things totally into perspective guys, FIFA 99 was a new gameplay engine and they built the next three versions on top of it.

Result = stayed pretty much crap year after year with minor tweaks (positive and negative) but the graphics improved. The gameplay actually changed very little.

EA Sports said that they totally rewrote FIFA 2003 this time around. Obviously this won't be something they do again this year (they should but I doubt it) so the gameplay in FIFA 2004 will be pretty much the same.

Result = same heading problem as this year and every other crap gameplay flaw.

The demo will be as usual released a few weeks before the full release and will be the final version. If the incompatability problems follow this years example then it will be compatable with about 10 PC's worldwide!

Who gives a crap that FIFA 2003 was an improvement over FIFA 2002??? The thing that matters is that it's full of bugs!! Dwelling on the fact that it's the best version yet is like saying "I used to get beaten up five times a day, now it's only three times a day". The fact is that the game still sucks!!! So what if it's better than before - it still freaking blows big time!

To build on a strong gameplay engine you need something like ISS 64 and build on the gameplay improving graphics and tweaking as you go. Steadily every year Konami have got better and better. EA always take steps forward and steps back and unfortunately the steps forward are mainly graphical.

Ahmed, please realize that WE ALL want better FIFA games and our frustration is with EA for screwing people over with what is basically an ALPHA version. To put out a game with that many bugs and gameplay faults doesn't even qualify as a BETA version! Nobody is saying FIFA fans are dumb, the majority of them seem more obssessed with getting Beckham's hair right than having accurate gameplay and that's what we find dumb! People want (and freaking deserve if they pay for it) a good game from EA becasue it's the only soccer game available on multi-platform. As Konami spread their wings they are educating more people as to what a soccer game should be like and people are seeing how EA are ripping them off. I use to be like Nick, a massive FIFA fan but then my eyes were opened. With PES2/WE6 you play soccer, in FIFA 2003 you watch soccer, and scripted soccer at that.

Like I said on a different forum, the EA slogan for FIFA should be "you can edit it but you can't header it". That slogan is 50 times more accurate then "if it's in the game, it's in the game" cos it sure as freak isn't!

We aren't trying to convert people just educate them to let them know there is another option and a good one at that. They can take or leave the advice and try it for themselves. Most people, when they have tried Konami, leave EA at the speed of light.

It's a trust issue. EA are screwing us. They screwed us this year big time and for many people, it was one screw over too much!

this is part of the reason why the standard of fifa games, remain very low.

quote ign boards: "fifa 2003 is the best one yet, despite the no create a player!

everything in the gameplay is realistic, like deflections and so forth. i don't have any problems with the header, or volleys!

i play on world class and i score a header and volleys all the time. i don't get blown out anymore, whenever i loose on worldclass, its either 1-0, 2-0 or 2-1.

i hated the fact that u get no help on "D". But no i don't mind because, it's gives me more competetion. so many people complain about computer scoring headers all the time.

it's realistic, as in real life; the a.i. have good players on their teams as well! of course they should score, but a.i. is so easier to stop than most people realize.

in fifa 03, the crowd is the bomb; and for the person who mention about free kicks being to easy to shoot. get your butt off of professional level, play worldclass and see how many free kicks you score then. " 8/3/2003

"i love fifa soccer 2003!

i didn''t play 2002, but this one is so realistic to everything like in real life... trust me it's worth it.

certain things might be anoying, but it can be overcom. right now i'm playing on world class level, with arsenel in EPL: drew my first two games, won four straight and i'm 2nd in the tables.

the competition on world class is tight, and whenever i score, it's worth it and exciting because it dilveres realism. "

this is one stupid dumbass who does not know football if it rolled up and hit him on the foot.

I have a dream that one day the liscence to make fifa games are free to everyone, and that the elements of fifa and pro evo come together

FIFA is always good to play at the start, that's what I find, to me FIFA 2003 was the god damn best football game ever to grace the earth, lol, but that vision was truly shattered once I come to grips with the scripted gameplay and bug crappy game engine, BAH! It's always the same for me, I actually think that this is it, this is the moment, then it all comes down and I'm left with £30 short and a piece of crap in a DVD case!

Nick.

fifa 99 was crap, but it didnt feel anything like fifa 2002 even when it was based on the same engine.
Just because it has bugs it does not mean that the next version will have the same bugs, you would imagine they figuer them and fix them. And if they are serious about it they will rewrite the big parts of the engine they did not have time for to rewrite last yr, if EA stops making the game, then pes will go down the drain too because they will have no competition

and about those comments, who can not score a header? is the easiest way to score, you dont even have to time the jump it does it for you

That accurately reflects real life soccer then! Not having to time your jump!!!! In PES2 if you jump at the wrong time you miss the ball. Little more realistic don't you think?

Sorry, but did I misread the forum title as "FIFA 2004 forum" rather than "Have a go at FIFA 2003 again, and again, and again" forum?

I think everybody in the whole forum get your point, there's no point repeating it over and over again (and again, and again, and again.....)

Your point is valid, but a point is good once, and after about twenty times, it doesn't sound as good.

I think the real bottom line is, there are a lot worse games out there, why don't we complain about them all?

besides is a fifa 2004 forum, which means criticizing the last game in aspects we want included in the new one

Agree with you on some part there, but EA total ignorance itself that made us do this. So many request asked for a training mode in FIFA 2003 wishlist, yet they still don`t put it in the game. If they showed their ignorance toward a subject that`s been requested many times, do you think they will give a damn about one critical thread ? For their hard-headed, fully total ignoring SOBs attitude, even 20 thread wouldn`t be enough, if you look at the CC feedback, there are more than 100 people keep on repeating for a fix for it, did EA release it ? No . . .

C`mon guys, why can`t you all understand that what the likes of Tristan, Nickclubman are doing is for your own good ? They try to persuade EA to show a little bit a respect for the money you pay them and for the loyalty you`ve showed them, despite the fact that they keep foolin` you around. And for editors like you Herc, aren`t you feel that EA somehow is laughing at you by releasing that pathetic CC ? It`s so pathetic and useless for a 30 MB program, that you and your team are forced to make a new editing tool, much more smaller in size, but millions times better than the OFFICIAL CC MADE BY TOTALLY PROFESSIONALS, WELL PAID TEAM OF PROGRAMMERS. I hope you get what I mean.

as much as people want the training mode.. Fifa 2003 takes a whole 20 mins to master, and I dont think it has enough depth to warrant a training mode.

No, I mean, I used the training mode request as an example to show EA ignorance toward their customers request. 20 mins ??? Get real, it only took me for my first match to master ( 10 mins ).
