Absolutely gutted to see Totti miss out.
Totti would have died in the conditions
Totti was eye-catching at EURO 2000, sensationally sublime at the 2002 World Cup, controversial at EURO 2004, and a World Champion in 2006 ... he's had a full and rewarding international career, which is why it doesn't feel like he's been jibbed by Prandelli's decision ...

the same doesn't apply to Cassano as far as I'm concerned, despite Joey's statement probably being accurate for him too ...

He is my favorite player but he needs to know when to step down.
one look at how how long Daniele De Rossi has been "Capitan Futuro" at Roma sums up how much Totti knows about stepping down in a timely manner ...

I was celebrating the non-selection of Gilardino and Giaccherini ... could not believe it! bravo Prandelli!

still nervous for Verratti and Cassano ...

Why wouldnt Verratti make it?

he hasn't been a Prandelli favourite, and hasn't played much despite regular call-ups ... making cuts from the 31, it looks tricky trying to squeeze him in ...

GK [3]: Buffon, Sirigu, Perin, Mirante

DEF [8/9?]: Abate, Maggio, Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini, Paletta/Ranocchia, Pasqual, De Sciglio, Darmian

MID [6/7?]: De Rossi, Candreva, Rômulo, Pirlo, Parolo, Thiago Motta, Verratti/Montolivo/Marchisio, Aquilani

FWD [6/5?]: Balotelli, Immobile, Cerci, Rossi, Cassano/Insigne/Destro

Make America Great Again
Pirlo, like Xavi, has no business going to Brazil. All those grey midfielders should be on the team, but Pirlo should not.

it's not bad having a freekick specialist in the squad, but I wouldn't build my team around him:

the only change I'd make now would be to dump Insigne for Immobile, deploy him as prima punta, and give Mario a free role in behind ...

Looks okay to me. I wonder if Barzagli can succeed in a 4 man defense though. I might feel more safe with Bonucci.

Bonucci shouldn't touch the field, we'd need barzaglis speed too I'd say

the grey areas get figuratively greyer as you go further up the pitch ...

Paletta is more in than Ranocchia, but I left them grey since they are obviously in competition for the last remaining centre back spot ...

as for leaving Abate and Maggio behind: it's hard to believe that both the starting and substitute RBs in the team would be making their national team debuts at a World Cup, much less for a team trying to win the whole thing ... but I suppose Rômulo usurping Maggio isn't impossible ... Darmian, meanwhile, I feel is there as like-for-like (acknowledging the difference in quality) versatile fullback cover for the injury prone De Sciglio ...

the Monty favouritism is a big concern for Verratti's World Cup fate ... hopefully I'm wrong ...
