well, if Prandelli intends to change system in every on of the 7 matches it'll take to win the World Cup, then it'll surely be in the mix ... I mean, I obviously like DDR as libero, but I don't expect that to be Prandelli's default ...

actually, if the midfield is set up the way I posted, then a 4 man defence, with Thiago Motta and De Rossi taking turns to sit in front of it, would be better ...

Montolivo will surely be on the squad because is the only player that can play as #10 and diamond 4-4-2 is a the most used formation by Prandelli.

He has definitely improved a lot since we had him, or our team was coached so bad a lot of players looked much worse than they are (Diego, tiago, barzagli)

Was Diamanti ever useful playing for the Azzuri?

He was just playing in the Confederation's Cup last year or did he sign his Azzuri career away by moving to China.

Ehh not really, he was at his best when he made the confed squad and only scored in the 3rd place game but then went off to China

according to the Italian press, this is what the final 23 is shaping up to be at the moment:

Buffon, Perin, Sirigu

Abate, Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini, Darmian, De Sciglio, Paletta/Ranocchia

Candreva, De Rossi, Marchisio, Montolivo, Thiago Motta, Pirlo, Rômulo, Verratti/Parolo

Balotelli, Cassano, Cerci, Immobile, Giuseppe Rossi

not sure in what world it makes sense that Verratti has to fight Parolo for a spot in a team, but apparently we live in it ...

final 23 to be decided after the game against Ireland ...

based on conjecture and an armchair diagnosis, he would be ... but the FIGC obviously have an elite medical staff assessing a number of players for health/injury risks, as they are being put through the simulated Amazonian conditions in the training camp ... hopefully one of them, with their qualifications and years of experience, can catch what you, from Fort Wotsit, can see ...

unless the match against Uruguay is a dead rubber (which is unlikely), the chances of Destro playing 90 minutes are slim to none, especially with Ciro, Mario, and Pepito in the team ...

from that point, what one looks for from a cameo is subjective ...

Balotelli red card & a beppe knee injury ain't that unlikely

cassano can play behind the striker though which is in his advantage

Monty out of ethe cup!!
I'd rather he get left out based on quality rather than injury ... fracture's been confirmed, and it's hard not to feel bad for him ... Parolo will likely benefit, since Aquilani confirmed his fragility once more ...

---

first the negative stuff:

the clean sheet is a total lie ... everyone on the defensive side of things, including the subs, had at least 1 shaky moment ... even excusing one lapse each, Bonucci managed to be play so sh!t, it was scarcely believable ...

up front, it was goalless in the first half thanks exclusively to Immobile's profligacy ... maybe he was distracted by his Dortmund transfer, but he should have confirmed his capocannoniere status by converting at least 2 of Verratti's beautiful assists ...

that leads us neatly onto the positive stuff:

Verratti was brilliant ... yes, he got dispossessed once, but for the rest of the 98 minutes, he oozed soo much class ... virtually every touch, every pass, reiterated why not taking him to Brazil would be one of the stupidest decisions Prandelli can make ...

Cassano's 35 minute outing showed that his touch, movement, and passing were all exemplary, as expected ...

lastly, Pepito: sure, he didn't score, but you could tell he's got a spark of the sublime about him, and he produced a couple of moments that showed why Prandelli is going to give him every chance to make it ... I personally don't think there's much of a decision to be made regarding his inclusion ...

can't wait to see Prandelli's 23 ...

Agree with all if that, except not surprised about Bonucci - it's imperative to bench him in a 4 man back line for chiello barzagli or need a playmaking alternative in the 3 like DDR

I was hoping Marrone would develop but he's not up to standard
