Tactics 101

Joe in the Beta testing forum back in August:

"I can confirm that some players will grow over the game (and some dont, as some people are as tall as they are getting by 16, 17!)

and players weight should move about a bit in the summer/peak season and younger/older. Again, some blokes more than others."

so it might just be visual, but at least its fun!

Well, if they inserted the height is for something, but for me it has no problem. Liedson often wins headers to > 1,90 m :)

yeh Johnny, Sissoko is brilliant at playing that DMC role, i just put him in there and he sorts out the crap (trust me, i miss him when hes injured)

alongside him i have Xabi Alonso, so thats fine.

Im gonna try putting my two DC's (at the min Traore and Hyppia seeing as Carra is injured) on quite low everything as you suggested.

Yeah, try it. But as I said before, if you you want a DMC that can also shoot from outside and do through balls, try getting Lorik Cana. Maybe Xabi Alonso can also do it...If you want a DMC to "destroy" everything it comes around, then Sissoko is fine...

Well, later I will see a full game of my team, to see how they do. I will see the 4-5-1, on other days I will see 4-3-3.

Damn, so close. I didn't deserve it...

4-2-3-1, that could go into 4-5-1. I used normal tackling this time instead of hard. Chelsea playing in a 4-1-4-1, I think...well, i did a lot...I MEAN A LOT of experiences during this game. The first half was mine. End of 1st half I had 7 shots, they had...3. I could be winning it in the first half. Then Mourinho brings Joe Cole...if holding Robben was being quite hard (MOM), with Joe Cole on the other side. And he also brings M'Besuma, playing 4-4-2. From here, things got much harder. I was trying to counter, but my team couldn't do it...they were trying to score, but all they could do was to shoot from long range. They scored in a very lucky way, a rebound. Ricardo defends a hard shot from Mbesuma, and Essien comes close, got blocked, but still managed to shoot. At the end, Liedson got a great chance, wasting it...

Performance of my players:
GK - Ricardo did a great job, was secure on crosses, and didn't have too much job...but it got 1-0...no fault in the goal.
LD - Chiquinho did a great job as well, defending better than attacking. He was pressuring more than the RD, as he was more fast and with more stamina.
RD - Andre Nogueira, youngster, had to play because Abel was injured. He did a pretty good match for a youngster, but he had Robben in his way. All defending for him, 3/4 crossing, he did great for a 19 year-old player and with average potential.
CD - Tonel and Ze Castro were GREAT. Nothing seemed to pass around them, Drogba didn't do a sh*t. Those instructions with no creative freedom, super defensive and low pressure really work! In the second half, even with all the pressure Chelsea made, they were the most secure...(NOTE: These instructions work!)
defensive DMC - Another great exhibiton, Luis Loureiro, mixed pressure, no forward runs and forward moves, mixed crosses (?), through balls and long shots. Maybe next time I will put long shots to often, he has 15 long shots and had oppurtunities to shoot but didn't...instead he passed.
pressure DMC - Custodio with hard tackling (only one) pressured well, but did lots of fouls, getting a yellow card. Later Joao Alves came for his place, and did as good, and getting a yellow card too.
MC (going into AMC) - Joao Moutinho in the first half was almost absent. In the second half he was always the first to get the ball, and he recover the ball a lot. Still, even with short passing maxed, he would try long passes...weird...
LM (ALM) - Edson was doing ok, crossing well, and did a very dangerous shot to the keeping...got injured and Quavas Kirk came in from him. Changed his position with Gasbarroni. Since Gasbarroni came here, he started playing really bad...this can be an important note...I should use Gasbarroni to cross more, and use less his long range.
RM (ARM) - Gasbarroni was doing ok, always in the counter, and scored a dangerous FK...but then he changed to the left. Kirk came here. As he is a strong player, every air ball would catch his head.
SC - Liedson ran ran ran ran...but didn't do a sh*t. And he failed 2 great chances...he didn't look too much supported by the other players...

Notes: During the game, I made some experiments and noticed some important stuff. The wasting time thing...well, I noticed when we low it, they players look more like fighters...I had some ticks above normal wasting time at the start, when I lowed it, Moutinho started to ran back, Custodio was pressing all the way...I also noticed that 4-3-3 and derivates (4-5-1) need to have large width for it to be best played. I really didn't know this, as I didn't know what width was...xD.

Questions:
I had tight marking all the game...does it help the defensive method?
MM marking or Zonal marking? I used MM marking...planning to use zonal at home against Chelsea...which I will play right now.
Do you always tick counter-attack option for 4-3-3?
DMC = MM or Zonal?

These questions are to improve the tactic...i'm trying to build up a good one here...:P

For me i do not tick on tight marking. Only my CB's have man marking. DMC has zonal unless i feel that he needs to mark one of their better players ( for instance like Dinho i would have my DMC man mark him ). I dont play counter attack either.

Ok well i will start up a game with pool and try to adjust your tactics a little later when i have more time...but from the screenshot i would not put Gerrard as a right midfielder and also Traore should not be there ( unless you usually play Carra instead? ) . I will give you more info on the tactic later ( got to go to school right now ). :)

carra ususally plays but is injured and, to be fair, Trarore has been arguably my best performer this year.

Ah i see. Ok i dont know about you but i have been having a lot of problems with injuries...right now my whole strikforce is out Cisse, Crouch, Moro, and even Pongolle.

Results so far, im amazed that i have not lost yet :p

My usual eleven ( even though i never have them all fit ), I know you dont have Dani Alves or Govou but you do have Kromkamp and Delgado. I tried to keep the team as the one you use.

Team instructions...not everything is final but for now this is how it stands.

I have player instructions but i keep changing it because of injuries and having to use new players. I can upload the tactic if you really want or you can just use what i did and go from there.

TBH though if i were you i would scrath the 4-4-2 and play a 4-3-3 something like this EDIT I forgot in the pic Alonso and Gerrard should have an arrow to AMC.

I am not sure if i will keep testing the tactic because off all the injuries.

ok i have a problem then, if you reckon Gerrard should be MC (attacking), then where does that leave Alonso and Sissoko.

Obviously i gather most would say get rid of sissoko, but he's been my best performer this year bar Riise.

Well i have been playing Alonso as the defensive MC and Sissoko as backup..if you dont want to do that than wait a little and i will try to work out a 4-3-3 which will have them all playing at once. :jap: ( I still think 4-3-3 would be your best bet with LPool so thats why i want to work one out :p )

why cant Gerrard play right wing? (thats my only gripe), on mine he is Natural MC/MR.

Or do you just think im wasting him? Also a 433 gets rid of Kewell :(

LOL bug...Sigames has lot of games in this version of FM.
And yeah, by looking to liverpool's team, maybe 4-3-3 would be the best choice...use the midfield, because liverpool has class midfield...
