I made the noobest mistake ever. I started my first FM08 game as who else, but my beloved and mighty(not to some of you) Manchester United. Seeing as we were short in the striking department, I had to sign a striker.
My first option was the hot French lad, Karim Benzema. But his club wanted 36 million pounds and I said, no no no. So, out of desperation, I bidded for Roman Pavlyuchenko. His price was 10 million pounds or so. So, he had work permit issues. His first application was rejected so I appealed. I didn't realise his appeal was rejected as well but in my haste, I clicked on the complete transfer button.
So, now, I'm stuck with a Russian that can't play and I had to loan him out. I offered him on loan to other clubs and I had to choose a club from a country which gives out second nationalities like candy. I checked and Spain was my best option because it required 730 days, or so I thought. I sent him packing to Deportivo and I'm pissed not because it will take 3650 days, instead of 730. Depressing
On the other hand, I had to panic buy and bought Kevin Doyle for 12 million pounds. He's been doing the business with 5 goals in two games and had to drop Roon. Yes, 12 million for an average real life player is overrated.
Anyway, 7 games in with United, lost one (against Boro 1-0, was down to 10 men), drew twice (0-0 to Brum at OT, 2-2 at Everton) and won the other 4. Yet to concede at Old Trafford this season and my signings have been Nathan Porritt, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Kevin Doyle.
Oh yeah, I lost in the Community Shield to Chelsea 5-0.
