Right, who here smokes? Discuss.


I searched for threads on the topic but they weren't really a broad thing. I really just wanted to know your opinion on cigars, seeing I really like them but have no clue as to brands, types, whatever.

Feel free to discuss anything from cigarettes to cigars, shisha, weed, whatever.

I don't, but I wish I did. Cigarettes I mean. Because they are cool. Cigars I don't care about, I'm not Fidel Castro.

I just very rarely smoke cigarettes, like two times in a year rarely. Cigars too, but I really like them, the taste. They're also cool!

Shisha (hookah) though, I smoke regularly, like once a week I'd say.

I did a stint on a fishing boat once upon a time and smoked like a chimney, but once ashore I had no problems quitting - strangely situational habit.

As for smoking, it is a very important way of preserving meat. Some nice smoked oysters, salmon and eel can brighten up a winter's day.

I am a full time smoker, have been for a few years, really enjoy it. I smoke a pack a day on days when I am just doing nothing and over two packs in a day if I go out in the evening, I would smoke more if they werent so damn expensive here, when I have duty frees I hit 2-3 packs per day, I smoke Marlboro reds which are super strong and I have no desire to cut down or stop.

Cigars I smoke on occasion but only on celebratory days really, my dad told me that the only cigar worth smoking is the Montecristo Number 1 and they are delicious so they are all I ever smoke, but I probably dont smoke more than one per month. Still, whenever I turned in a big essay or finish a period of work or whatever I always celebrate with a cigar.

Used to smoke a fair bit of Shisha when I lived with two Greeks but nowadays I dont come across it much maybe the occasional shisha bar. Stopped smoking weed 3 years ago and dont miss it.

EDIT: In third world countries where smokes are like £1 a pack I have been known to go through five packs in a day

I hate smoking, but like Shifty Said, I would smoke cigars if I could, because they do look cool.

I hate cigarettes. Always have. And I also hate sitting at a cafe/bar/whatever with a smoker sitting near me. Second hand smoke smells even worse.

Cigars I don't mind for special occasions - bucks party (stag party), wedding, baby born etc. I can appreciate them, but I'd definitely not want to do it habitually. There are plenty of things I enjoy that do loads less damage to me.

You can find them anywhere (except USA obviously and even there if you know who to ask), any cigar shop in Portugal should carry them, they may be pricey though. Sometimes the single ones come in a metal tube and are known as tubos and for them you pay £2 extra for the privilege of having a metal tube, but the upside is you can keep them outside of a humidor for longer without them drying out so if for some reason you are buying one to smoke in three months time by a tubo.

You can also get "petit-tubos" which are half size versions of the same cigar but they are normally more than half the price so dont represent value.

Stopped smoking weed 3 years ago and dont miss it.

I smoked quite a bit of weed when I was younger too - at least it gave a decent high - unlike tobacco which is so mild, and just cures the addiction.

But I very very rarely smoke it now. Probably twice a year at random.

I smoked weed from time to time in my teens then fairly heavily for a period of 2 years age 20-22 and over that time discovered I was not nearly mentally stable enough for it.

I have smoked weed but it's not really my thing, neither are cigarettes for that matter. Cheers by the way, I'll check it out. (and the "tubos" thing was funny, "tubos" is also portuguese for "tubes".)

Well the cigars being from Cuba presumably it is a Spanish word and some Spanish words are the same as Portuguese I think

One of my flatmates and dear friends from university was from a wealthy american family and also a bon vivant ie fat and greedy but with good taste and his Dad used to always order him various cuban cigars with were randomly delivered (due to the emargo I think it titillated him to think of his son smoking cuban cigars) so I tried one or two others that he gave me and none of them touch Montecristos for me, but if there is another brand you want to know about I can probably ask him and he should know.

Yeah, that's the biggest issue with weed.

I smoked basically daily around the same age as you (20-22) as that's when I was in London. But it makes you dumb if you use it anywhere near daily for more than about a week. Takes twice as long to get your brain feeling normal again.

Those whose word I trust swear by Cohibas (the proper cuban ones not that junk they sell here). I should also mentioned that you should make sure you're getting Habanos' produced cigar and not some fraud that stole the name.

I don't smoke cigarettes but I don't really mind the smell in fact I kind of like it. My ex loves Newports and I hated their scent.

Yeah I don't mind people smoking near me and that, I don't relish the smoke itself on my face but then again neither does a smoker.

I don't smoke and I am not interested but I tried out of curiosity several times as a teenager and never felt on a high. That's a good thing I guess.
