Rummenigge: Bayern won't beat Real

MADRID, Feb 18 (Reuters) - Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge says his club has virtually no chance of beating Real Madrid when the two sides meet over two legs in the last 16 of the Champions League.

'When we saw the draw we thought that this was the toughest game we could have been given,' Rummenigge told Spanish sports daily Marca on Wednesday.

'For Bayern to make it through to the quarter-finals, Real Madrid will have to have two very bad days and we will have to play two really good games.

'I know that our players are going to be motivated by the very fact that they will be playing Real Madrid, but even if we perform to 100 percent of our ability I'm not sure we can knock them out.'

The former West German international said that the fact that Bayern were nine points behind leaders Werder Bremen in the race for the German title was an indication of the team's poor form.

'Bayern are playing badly,' he said. 'Our position in the Bundesliga says it all -- we aren't in good shape. All we can hope for against Real is that Bayern start playing like a team, and that isn't happening at the moment.'

Bayern host Real in the first leg in Munich on February 24th and travel to Spain for the return on March 10th.

Real Madrid ,unfortunately ,aren't stupid.They won't play at 50% or rest Zidane just because Bayern's chairman said that.
And it would have been a boost for his team if he actually said something in Bayern's favour.

I remember when Barca played Real in the semis a few seasons back ,Gaspart (ex Barca chairman) said "I'm sorry for Real Madrid ,but we are going to Glasgow."
Barca were eliminated but at least he believed in success.

Bayern's chairman is a dumbass if he thinks he can do damage to Madrid by playing down his team's form.

i wouldnt say 50/50,they barely got out of a group that wasnt too great (no offence to Lyon, Celtic and Anderlecht, but theyre not exactly europes finest)

Today Kahn and Ballack were not able to play due to injuries. Maybe both are out on Tuesday.

Without them we have a 0.1% chance of beating Real.

We will lose it anyway. This team plays some terrible footie right now, I can't believe it. That reminds me of the "good" old times when we had Trap. :|

I agree that he is trying to psyche out Real....its all about mind games now. Real have just about wrapped up La Liga and are bound for a let up !!!!! These comments(made before the Saturday games for borth Bayern and Real) just add fuel to the fire.

IMO Bayern may be going through a weak period (compared to their past recent glories) but they are still a good squad who could knock out Real Madrid. Sure, Real are the favorites, but this is football, anything can happen.

Who knows? Maybe Bayern can tie Real and the Bernabeau and beat them at home? Or maybe tie both games and tie with a bigger amount of goals away. There so many scenarios that I still see Bayern having a 49% chance of going through.

In 2002 Bayern players just insulted Madrid, and Bayern faced a Furious Real Madrid in Bernabeu. Now they are changing his tactic, is very intelligent imo :)

I think is 50%/50% , Real Madrid never won in Munich stadium :/

No matter how strong other are ,Milan does seem the strongest.
