Remap button number assignments on gamepad

Hi guys, nice to meet you all :)

My question actually has nothing to do with Fifa but rather Madden 07, but the people on those forums don't seem like they would know how to fix this.

I'm using a psx to usb controller adapter and I want to edit the registry so that I can change button number assignments of buttons on the controller. So if circle button was '2', I'd like to change it to '3'

Anyone know how to do this? Many thanks!
