Red Hot Chilli Peppers - how do you rate them?

I don't know much about Red Hot Chilli Peppers, all I know is they are pretty popular and from the few songs I've heard of they sound pretty good.

I never knew they were pretty highly regarded in the industry
came across this video

quite a respectable carreer, and a hell of an rock masterpiece called Blood Sugar Sex Magik!

love their sound and humorous attitude, but (and I do hate this cliché), their early stuff is so much cooler!

i'm looking forward for their concert in May 3rd in Portugal, I wanna go down there.

Flea is undoubtfully one of the hardest rocking bassists ever, Frusciante has an enourmous feeling, his guitar sound is so sweet... and Chad is without a doubt on the top 5 rock drummers of all time. As for Kiedis... well, his attitude, humour and voice on studio makes up for the poor vocal performances live. But on stage this guys DO kick it pretty hard, i like it.

*awaits for Virgo on his Patton-related post (H))*

I will just say that there are so much better bands out there who haven't got 1/3 the popularity.

I'm a big fan... but mostly because of their older funky stuff. The Uplift Mofo Party Plan, Mother's Milk and Blood Sugar Sex Magik are my fav albums, so I'm much more into that then into the newer albums.
I'm going down to Paris in june with a few friends, and we were able to get tickets to their show on the 9th in Bercy. Reaallyyy looking forward to it! First time im seeing them live. :D

Blood Sugar Sex Magik is the best album i've heard, and i've heard a fair few.

They've managed always to make a good album. Some have not been stunning. but each are usually attractive in their own way. One Hot Minute for instance is a good onscure album, made during a very tough period for the band. They've also managed to let their music evolve, this clearly displeases a few purists, but it stops all their songs sounding the same. Having one of the best bassists of all time does help.

Probably my favourite band. Queen in close second.

Best tunes?

Scartissue
Otherside
Higher Ground
I Could of Lied
Under the Bridge
Suck My Kiss
My Friends

Chili Peppers, much like Green Day are incredibly overrated. They've done a few decent tracks but they're not as good as people think they are. Anthony Kiedis' voice really does get annoying after a while.

They're pretty boring, and Kiedis has got to be one of the most annoying singers to watch.....someone should cut his arms off. That being said, Frusciante, Flea and their drummer (forgot his name) are pretty respectable...

One of my favourite bands. Their older stuff was probably better overall but I have high expectations for the new one. That being said, Californication and By The Way were great albums with a great sound.

John Frusciante is defenitely the best moder guitarist, Flea is a master of bass and Chad Smith is a pretty hard hitting amazing drummer. Kiedis' voice lacks a little in live performances but they all complement each other so well.

Yeah Kiedis' voice is terrible, it totally puts me off them when I see them on telly sounding crap because of his vocals.

dani california is one of my favourite songs right now, and i think is a better opener than by the way, so im hoping the new album will be a return to funkier days. seeing them in july, looking forward to it after the didnt impress last time i saw them

One of my bands of election...I grew up listening to them. But yeah, Virgo said it right. We see much better bands around that don't have 1/3 of the popularity they have.

Oh...is it only me...or Dani California looks...bad?

BSSM >>>> The rest of the albuns

Their best song for me is Californication. Under the Bridge comes a close second.

Three things make the RHCP stand out, n.3 being the result of the previous 2 reasons:

1) Frusciante is one of the best guitar players of the past 15 years. He also happens to sing better than RHCP's lead singer.

2) Flea is a prodigious bass player and a great rock n' roll character.

3) They got some seriously funky hooks.

Unfortunately, they also presented me with the worst concert I've seen live, so that puts them in my so-so list.

Dani California
is a catchy tune. In fact, I think they're a great singles band.

What a ******* sweet solo on this first single, eh? Can't wait the hear it live, man.

I've been a big fan of RHCP since the first time I heard a musical note from them. They're one of hand full of bands that I go out of my way to purchase their material and see them live. Just a ******* awesome jam band, man. They'll jam to ska, garage punk, funk, rock.....they're just so all-around and versatile, man

Btw, I don't know why some of yous are being so harsh on Kiedis. He's not a great singer by any means and he himself admits this and is very uncomfortable singing, he's a rapper who trys his best with what he's been given. In spite of this and he not having a great enough voice for massive live concerts, they still find a way to be one of the best live bands ever in my experience of seeing shows.

They make very good music. Lyrically they're a mixed bag. I feel like Kiedis' lyrics are getting progressively dumber and more incomprehensible with each album, and his voice more and more wimpy and annoying.
