"Recommended" Requirements for games

I was wondering if, as long as your computer meets the "recommended" requirements for a game, you can still play it with reasonable graphics (as in, not choppy or laggy, but not necessarily High detail)?

Because I'm looking at an Acer Centrino notebook, as follows (from the website):
MODEL Aspire 1681WLMi
* Intel® Centrino™ mobile technology
* Long life Lithium Ion battery up to 6 hours life
* ATI® Mobility Radeon 9700 accelerator with 64MB DDR RAM
* Integrated audio, stereo speakers & built-in microphone
* Built-in 56Kbps international fax/modem + 10/100 LAN & 802.11b/g Wi-Fi LAN
* Integrated Bluetooth
* Built-in full size keyboard with four easy-launch buttons
* Built-in touchpad pointing device
* Fast Infra-red, FireWire, S-Video ports
* Three USB 2.0 ports
* Weight: From 3.0 Kg
OPERATING SYSTEMS Microsoft® Windows® XP Home
CPU Intel® Pentium® M Processor 715 (1.5 GHz, 2 MB cache, 400MHz FSB)
SCREEN 15.4" Active colour screen with WXGA resolution (1280 x 800)
MEMORY 512 MB PC2700 DDR-SDRAM
MEMORY 2 512 MB PC2700 DDR-SDRAM
HARD DRIVE 60 GB EIDE hard drive
OPTICAL DRIVE 4X max dual format DVD +/- R/RW writer drive
PC CARD 1 Type II slot

Now I know it's only 1.5GHz, but isn't a 2MB cache quite good? Would it be able to run BFVietnam reasonably? I am looking into Centrinos now..and I wonder if this is good enough.

Minimum requirements will play the game (just about). Recommended requirments will play the game nicely and make it enjoyable (ie. good settings, but probably not highest settings).

yes that should run vietnam fine. however, don't expect it to exactly fly. and you might experience a bit of lag over the internet, but thats expected.

If you want to play games at a serious rate, get a desktop with a Radeon 9800/X800XT or a GeForce 6800.

That laptop is pretty good but is let down by the fact that mobile graphics cards have limited pixel pipelines, and that the cooling on laptops is aweful. Running a game for a while will warm it up a bit too much.

Ok, buddy, I AM NO GETTING A DESKTOP, understand?? Lol :kader:

I've spoken to someone about the cooling - he said it could probably run for 4 hours before it gets "too" hot, and that's fine. Battery life is apparently only 1-2 hours, but that's fine with me also. So would that laptop be able to run games like Doom 3 and so on?

Theoretically you can cause hard drive damage by using a laptop whilst in motion :jambo:

As for battlefield, prolly will, I don't know the specs for the game :$
