see Madrid's policy of buying young players works but only with teams that have the patience to endure it. I honestly expected us to have a crappy season this year, but the results and luck followed us for a long time, now late in the season is where class seems to count over talent...and clearly we dont have the world class quite yet....we have many players with potential to be world class IMO (Sneijder, Gago, Soldado, Drenthe) a couple who are on the verge of becoming world stars (Ramos, Pepe) and some players who are on their way down the ladder but who are still good (RVN, Raul, Cannavaro, Heinze) but we only have two bonifide stars in our team (Robihno, Casillas) With Robben being a bubble guy simply cause he's always injured, had he not been so injury prone he would be a star as well...

in short....we will need to go after a true winger in the offseason, I noticed when the going get tough we simply have no way to open up the field, and we lack a true conductor of the game, conduction was our main fall out today...

The Galactico policy was a lot of fun for everyone........maybe if it was employed better between 2004 and Perez' end, it may have been more effective.

You're right about the class....you guys need it fast!!!

Well let's be honest who expected us to win the treble this year with a new caoch and all? I sure as hell did not but would have liked it if we could have gone a littler furthur in the cup but that's how the CL is when you get to the knockout stages, anyone can win.

Also congrats to Roma who simply outplayed us today and good luck in the rest of the CL. Also De Rossi and Aqualani (SP?) are great players.

as i understand, Real Madrid has won most of their games against italian teams.

and so have other spanish teams.

anyways, I'm glad Madrid lost :)

wow dindt expect this at all..... roma did exactly to madrid what they did to lyon last season.... just beeing patience, controlling that midfield, they did a perfect game, thye just wanted the win more than you guys.... not trying to be a dick but what happen to the new best world player in all merengues eyes , the new O'rey, cause he did absolut O'crap, iam talking about robinho of course.... plus i just like to ad nobody is expected to win the trebol, you either win it or you dont win it , doesnt matter if you have a new coach or new players.... i dont think calderon wasted 100 million dollars to make a team that could win the CL in 2 or 3 years.... anyways congrats to roma.
Madrid beeing eliminated is bad news for barca, cause they will concentrate all their efforts on the liga now, not good for us cause we are still behind.... so heads up merengues if it makes you feel any better i still think the Cl is gonna end up in british lands.

It certainly wasn't the best game I have ever seen.
It was far to cagey, and I was hoping that Real would have been more of an attacking threat. The whole team only seemed to wake up after the sending off and Roma's goal, but by then obviously it was too late

we should of come out of the traps all guns blazing, that would of put a lot of presssure on roma and would have woken up the bernabue faithfull, because lets be honest the atmosphere wasnt like what it usually is in a champions league night. we were too cagey, we didnt wanna concede and iamo roma are a great side, and know how to protect a lead.

i agree with socrates though we perhaps got a little ahead of ourselves when we were doing really well and forgot how new this team is and how inexperinced it is. i dont think well be champions league contenders for atleast another 2 seasons or so, but this team has plenty of potential it just needs a few tweeks i.e. a couple of players leaving a couple coming in and we could truely be world class.

to be faire to pepe and robinho they had just come back from injury they wernt really that fit so anyone that was excpecting them to work miracles were mistake espeacially against a good team like roma.

also schuster got the tactics a bit wrong yesterday, i really hope i never see baptista and diarra start in the same team, it was too congested in the middle i mean a couple of times ago and diarra we falling over each other because they were both going to he same ball. he should of started with higuain and drenthe instead of those 2. drnthe would of given us width and higuan with his movement up front could of caused a lot of problems for the roma defense.

sorry for the long post!

i really think, when madrid have to take the iniciative dont know wath to do with the ball, is a team for playing at counterattack, the problem is not if these players are young or these is not a supermegaultra start, yes a top player always help but the problem is in the mid, diarra is good in his job, defense. guti is irregular player with some good actions and great quality but not a class mid, sneijder is good but injury, gago give good passes and some inteligents moves but nothing more, baptista can play in mid but he is striker... IMO madrid need player like lampard xavi iniesta pirlo deco gerrard cesc.
sorry for my inglish

Once again Real Madrid gets owned by an Italian team...Roma outplayed a VERY sorry Real Madrid.

Yes they did in this leg and congrats to them, it was a well played game by them although the same can't be said for the first leg but that was our fault for not putting our chances away.

Big Al - Yes they played better than us in this leg and your right they played a very smart game, they put up a big wall in the middle and moved the ball around nice as well. With that said Pepe's red card hurt us a lot as did Ramos suspension. Robinho was not that bad, can't do much if the coach wants to attack down the middle where there are 6 defenders blocking the way at all times with that said he made some good runs, got 3 dangerous FK for us, and assisted Raul's offside goal. More of the problem was that we came into the game trying to attack with no width and were playing like we had the 2-1 win from the first leg. Baptista and Diarra were bad at giving away the ball too, and I can't believe how horrible Baptista's touch is. I also don't think that Caldeorn spent 100 million euros expecting us to win the CL or the treble or anything, look at the team. New coach, new players, and young players as well. All things considered I think it's been a good year, **** if you told me back when the season started that we would be first in la liga with a 5 point lead and out of the other comps I would be pretty happy with it. In a couple years with this group of players and Schuster as coach I think we will be a very strong team. Anyway it's the CL, anyone can win it at this stage.

Arnau - Our main problem is that Wesley is out and he is our best midfielder IMO for moving the ball, Guti can be great but like you said is inconsistent so we can't count on him. Also another big problem is that we don't use the wings for whatever reason, we always try to play it through the middle when we should be using the wings to open up more space. I think what we really need is to play more on the wings with Robinho and Drenthe ( Robben is injured right now ) and hope for Wesley to come back quick.

As for your last comment, it's really not needed here man. Just keep that **** out of here. If you really want to than go start a thread elsewhere but there is no need to discuss it here.

haha.. And its nothing personal, because I do enjoy the Premier league.. but my thoughts exactly.. :p

All that needed to be said, has been done. I didn't really have my hope up all that high because or our recent performances. Nevertheless, I'm a bit disappointed about the result.

Now its on to concentrate on the league..

So Aguero is happy there were out of the CL, wow what a dick, fantastic player but **** him. But it does say a lot about the level of the club (and himself) when the only joy is the failure of another team. Useless team can't even beat Bolton or score on them.

aguero for president, hehehehe... kidding... actually he's always been that usual bocazas.... but common mate you have the biggest bocazas of the season and he's not even a player, you know who iam talking about..... you guys didnt hear what he said in the interview room after the roma game... what comes out of ant helga mouth is just unbelievible to hear.

at least Schuster has room to talk, he is the coach of R.Madrid that is no small feat on his own right....and he was always like that his mouth is probably the reason why he would never be mentioned in the same breath as Di Stefano, Cruyff, Maradona or Pele...

Aguero is funny to me, he makes all these statement about how much he bleeds for that Patetico shirt, and yet we all know that the moment one of the big clubs in Europe comes asking for him he is gone like the wind. Nobody can honestly tell me that if Man U, Arsenal, AC Milan (and they might) Inter, Bayern, hell even Barca come knocking for this guy he wont leave the perenial underachieving team that Atletico is....

Coments like that should only be reserved for players who truly bleed the colors of their team (ie. Raul in Madrid, Etoo in Barca; even Puyol or Iniesta; Totti in Roma, Maldini in Milan...etc).....what a clown of a guy. Luckily for us he is actually very good otherwise he would be nothing to be proud of.

SIGH....

thats what i said when i saw our lineup...it looked pretty much like a "hope guti has a good game and gets the ball to robinho in a goal-scoring position" type lineup

SIGH

seen reports in a couple sites that Madrid are throwing Mourihno a rope...apparently after the debacle in the CL Calderon wants a new coach, as most people atribute our failure to a tactical defeat more than anything...I tend to agree that our tactical plan for the game was horrible, although I believe Schuster deserves more time....

also, Sneijder should be ready for Espanyol this weekend
