Promoted as "The Greatest Show On Earth", the Premier League is the world's most popular and most watched sporting league, followed worldwide by over a billion people.[27] It is widely watched overseas, with matches being shown in 195 countries,[28] generally on networks owned and/or controlled by NewsCorp, which owns BSkyB and thus the primary UK and Ireland TV rights. NewsCorp has purchased ad space at some Premier League stadiums to promote Fox Soccer Channel, which is the company's US broadcaster (as in Britain, the rights are shared with Setanta Sport). Rogers Sportsnet in Canada carries several matches each Saturday. The Premier League is particularly popular in Asia, where it is the most widely distributed sports programme.[29] In the People's Republic of China, matches attract television audiences between 100 million and 360 million, more than any other foreign sport.[30] Due to this popularity, the league has held two pre-season tournaments in Asia, the only Premier League affiliated tournaments ever to have been held outside England. In July 2003 the FA Premier League Asia Cup was held in Malaysia, featuring three Premiership clubs, Chelsea, Newcastle United and Birmingham City, and the Malaysia national team.[31] In 2005 the Asia Trophy featured a similar format, held in Thailand and featuring the Thailand national team competing against three English clubs — Everton, Manchester City and Bolton Wanderers, the latter of whom won the trophy.[32] In 2007, the FA Premier League Asia Cup will move to Hong Kong and feature Liverpool, Portsmouth, Fulham and the Hong Kong FA Cup winning team. Radio coverage of the Premier League can also be heard in the United States on Sirius Satellite Radio.

Juss waitin for the Spanish League stats to come thru...

stats from ESPNsoccernet. So far Premiership attendances crap all over Serie A. ANd Italy has bigger stadia not necessarily safer though. Not all seater stadiums either. Hence can fit more fans than usual. Man Utd attendance surely the most in the world. 1 million plus in total. over the whole season. It surely rivals Barcas attendance over a season. These numbers on the right of the season total are averages per game. They are consistent numbers. And dont change much. Despite it being expensive people still go to games also because its safer to do so. And no stadium in the league lets fans have a standing section. All seater stadia.

This still doesn't mean the league is better than any other league ;)

It just means more people watch it, which is due to it being one of the top leagues in the world, and also the best marketed league in the world.

You really are running around in circles and yet have never proved the league is better, because it is an unprovable point.

Give it a rest.

Deal with the facts. Attendances affect the state and health of the competition. It is an indicator. Also viewing numbers as well. If it was really bad no one would watch it. Its the most exciting league in the world end off. Case closed

Well, judging from your very fanboyish remarks and your statements like "Deal with the facts" and "Case closed" it's obvious that your delusional little dream world is still very intact.

You simply don't understand that a subjective judgement can never be taken as fact, due to it's very nature. Then you produce numbers which are at best unreliable, and still don't prove your point. You can say the EPL is the "most watched" or "best attended" (although that little argument seems to have gone down the drain after LLD's post, hasn't it?), but neither of those "facts" even begin to indicate that it is the "best" league. The word best in and of itself has many interpretations.

Best at what? Do you mean it has the best players? And how would you judge that? Do we point out that the world player of the year for the past few years has been from other leagues? That would be your modus operandi. However, just because a league has the best player, doesn't make it the best league. Just because a league has the best attendance, or the most TV contracts, doesn't make it the best league. It makes it the best in those categories, which if you say the EPL is, fair enough. But the best league in terms of play or style is a subjective question which you have failed to prove utterly with your inane spouting of TV statistics and unfounded claims of worldwide viewership.

I see it is pointless to discuss this with you, as your grasp of such concepts as logic and facts are obviously quite some distance from reality.

i m a chelsea fan but i totally agree. The guy said the truth, exactly what Georgiou said. Mourinho shows no interest in playing good football.

Talk about muppetry and sadness. I mean going through history to find some evidence to make me look like a hypocrite, But lets face it maybe theres a bit of accomplishment for the nerd behind their computer who digs up some cheesy posts i made when i was a big fan of Serie A before the matchfixing scandal. But its all good. Think what you like but i cant see anything other than a bunch of nerds with glasses digging through history to prove a point.

Whatever. Couldnt care less anymore.

The whole point of our discussion here was you making unfounded statements. Horatiu made a statement about you, then backed it up with facts.

Interesting isn't it?

Whas makin me laugh is the extreme lengths someone went to make a point. But its okay. I;ve seen worse case scenarios. Mr Canadian dude that watches european soccer and probably supports Barca or sommink. Gt over yourself.

I support Barcelona and have since I discovered what football was all about around 13 years ago. I have never hidden that fact and I post regularly in the Barcelona Thread.

There are other teams I like to watch, and will even cheer for in certain competitions because I like certain things about them (Newcastle, Liverpool, St. Etienne, Mallorca, Toluca, and several others). But I only ever use "we" with Barcelona, and now with TFC.

Once my hometown got a club, my allegiance moved there forever. They are number one for me, as it should be, and take precedence over all other clubs.
