Questions to ask SeaBass if you have the chance.

OK. I have read many interviews with SeaBass and it seems to me that the interviewers never drilled SeaBass hard questions. I know it maybe out of respect but no one seems to ask him why certain in the series still have not been iron out and how they can be improve. So if you have a one on one interview with SeaBass-san what questions would you ask him? Here are mines, what are yours?
1. If the PES/WE series are supposed to simulate the beautiful game to the fullest, why hasn’t the referee be implemented on the pitch during actual gameplay yet? It would add another dimension to the game because players would have to pass around the referee. If the inferior ISS series has the referee on the pitch why can’t WE/PES?

2. Why is there no snow as an option in the weather settings?

3. Why is there no “Man of the Match” or MVP honor at the end of the match?

4. Why is there a delay in the release of the series regionally? Does KONAMI know that using this distribution method they are actually losing money because gamers will do anything to get their hands on the latest version? In a way, KONAMI is encouraging piracy because of this policy. KONAMI can eliminate this by making a worldwide release at the same time. If that means pushing the release date back toward Christmas, then do it. That way, all the latest transfers are updated.

5. We know that the WE/PES has licensing issue. Now this maybe a company decision not to spend the money to get the license, but why can’t there be more teams both (international and clubs) based upon a league structure. There should be more non Europeans clubs. Believe it or not, there are WE/PES fans all over the world not only in Japan and Europe.

6. Aside from the licensing issue, KONAMI has also neglected signing STAR players to promote the game. STAR players are recognized by fans and they can sell games.

7. Customized difficulty settings. In games like Madden NFL and NHL, there are customized difficulty settings called sliders where gamers can customize the difficulty levels according to his liking. Can this be accomplished with the WE/PES series?

8. The commentary in the US and European version of the game is atrocious. Can KONAMI get the license for BBC sports or SKY sports to get their announcers and their TV broadcast presentation? This would add more realism to the game.

9. For the PC version, are there plans to make the game easily modable? Because of the lack of license, gamers can mod the game to make teams have real kits and stadiums to look like what they should. This is one of FIFA big advantage for the PC version. There are people out there who actually like modding games rather than play them. EA knows this is one of their biggest selling points for PC version and they are not going out of their way to make it impossible for gamers to mod FIFA. They actually encourage the fans to mod the game to their liking.

10. Given that the WE/PES series always received rave reviews from game reviewers, does KONAMI know why its sales figures are always behind FIFA? Have KONAMI gone out of its ways to promote the product outside of Japan? Because aside from the pathetic PES website (http://www.pro-evolution-soccer.de/site/auswahl.html) which have not been updated for over two years, there is no official non-Japanese website to promote the series. Does KONAMI want to develop a rapport with their fan base? Look at what EA does with their FIFA series. The fans have a place where they can voice their opinions about the series. WE/PES fans do not have that luxury at the moment. Does KONAMI not want to know what the fans want? Look at www.sigames.com and what they do with their CM series. Sigames is even smaller than KONAMI and fans of the CM series feels they are part of a community because the developers interact with their fans.

1. Snow is part of the game. In Europe, they do played games in snow.

2. I know about the 5 levels of difficulty. But since you are new here, read the posts about people bitching about the AI cheating. People don't seems to realize that AI programming is hard. How do you differentiate the levels? Do you increase the CPU stats or lower the user's as the difficulty increases. If there is customizable difficulty settings, people can set it themselves to their liking.

I agree, snow although more rare then nice weather or rainy weather... its still very much a part of football (think of the ukrianian league alone!)

The sliders would be a great, great touch.. I think Konami's default gameplay is by far the most realistic out of all sports game, but sliders ler peopel have a say in certain areas that maybe they are not good enough at etc...

Plus, the CPU does not cheat.. when people say that, they are only not good enough to prevent the tide to be turned in the cpu's favor. Cheers

okay....*thinking*....

Question

1. why can't they expand the number of national teams, say e.g expand from 56 to 60 ? At least, I'd like to see the number of national teams are expanded with the same thing as number of expansion clubs each time.

2. why are there no linesmen & a referee on the pitch ?

Starting XI
I would ask if they are considering having players run in different ways, dribble in different ways, eg zidane has a different stature to ronaldo.

will the crowd look more realistic. More chants.

National anthems

I have a load of request but i think i will send those to the playstation.com website

1) Why are there so few club and national teams in the game? Licensing is clearly not a real issue as they have been happy enough to use ficticious team and player names in the past.

2) Why does the game not make it possible to completely simulate any real world football tournament. We can't play a real domestic league structure, we can't play Champions' League group stage with home and away games, we can't play World Cup/Euro Championships qualifiers, we can't play African Nations Cup, etc.

We had tournament editors 10 years ago on the Amiga so why is WE/PES still lagging so far behind?

3) When will the core game engine be re-designed so that the CPU stops continually taking partial control of the one player the human is supposed to be controlling?

4) Why are free-kicks not being improved? Why can't we even play a backward pass from a free-kick, let alone perform set routines, dummies, etc.

5) When will on-line play become reality in the WE/PES series?

Some great questions here guys. I hate how inept KONAMI is in developing a rapport with their fans. I know SeaBass and company don't speak English but they have a KONAMI in America and Europe don't they. Why can't KONAMI even open an official PES website with regular updates and a forum so these types of questions can be ask. After all, don't they want to know what the consumers want so they can meet their needs. All in the interviewers have either kowtow to SeaBass or never really ask him tough questions. I am not asking the development team to check the forum everyday but for someone to relay to them what we the consumer want. Right now, we don't even have a voice. For all we know, the next 5 games in the series will have these lingering problems.

True... they need to welcome the fans veiws and thoughts.. as well as open up some sorta marketing campaigne outside of Japan! :)

But even with all of their faults. The game is the best football game avaiable.. If Konami stopped production of the WE/PES series after this last game.. and EA and other companies kept making games.. 3 years plus could pass and Konami's dated game would still be the best around.

Re: Questions to ask SeaBass if you have the chance.

About the referee thing, I think they explained it some time ago, you guys gotta remember the Ps2 is an under-powered piece of crap, if the game stutters a bit in some places with no referee, i imagine having a referee on the pitch with its own AI routines would slow-down the game quite a bit. On the Pc it's definitely possible though, but I assume this year's PES3 PC will be a direct-port of the ps2 version, but I hope next year they add it.

There was never a ref on the pitch for PS1 title either. I realize it is not the end of the world that the ref is not on the pitch, but it adds another element to the gameplay. I highly doubt that there will be a ref on the PC version.

On another note, I would like to see this eventually in the series. Maybe a kind of minigame or extra mode or even in the practice.
1. Urban or street football complete with urban gears not official team kits.

2. Beach football. Play on the beach a la samba style. It does not have to be like DOA beach volleyball but some nice chicas fans cheering wearing bikinis or thongs would be a bonus.

3. Indoor football/ futsal.

V-9 and gang, some great questions here, because you've thought about and played WE long and hard --

I think the problem is with media and gaming reporters. Very few have such an in depth knowledge of the game, so they can't ask the proper questions.

If you think the situation is bad with WE, look at FIFA -- is there anyone that's ever asked them the tough questions? Has there ever been a review score for FIFA less than 9/10?

Your average reviewer spends a few minutes with FIFA, WE, etc. and then moves on to SSX 3, Backyard Wrestling and Half-Life.

But, yeah, we need some harder hittin' reporting going around. Too bad Konami ain't interested in listening to anyone or even paying the slightest attention to their customers.

Actually, I think it's the other way around.

FIFA 2003 has an 83.2% at gamerankings.com while PES2 has a whopping 92.6% and Winning Eleven 6:I a 90.6%, I'd say that's pretty good, people in Europe and Japan (and the US, sorta) realised that PES is the better game, and that has been reflected in sales.

About tough questions, well I guess most reviewers are forced to ask dumb questions in order to keep their jobs, and remain proffesional. Although it was pretty funny when in a live chat in this forums, FIFA2003's producer was aked if fifa was going to be better than PES and he said yes, I bet he felt terrible inside for lying like that.

How about an international schedule put in with the regular season? and once every four seasons a world cup? You could pick the national teams you wanted to play with throughout the season, and injuries and fatigue would carry over and stuff. I think that would be cool what do you guys think?

And PS2 is not a piece of crap, its just older. .. and getting outdated.. but regardless.. the ps2 could handle a ref on the pitch.. christ the ps1 could handle it.. I get no drops in frame rates or skips in we7 on my ps2.. so I have no idea what you mean. The ref isnt there, strickly cause konami hasnt cared to put him there.. has nothing to do with the ps2..

Here is what I think needs to be done to make WE/PES better:

1. Full licenses for all the major leagues and International teams (no stupid names, proper kits/names/badges)

2. Good commentary with recognised commentators like in the Fifa series along with some decent music instead of the usual tripe we get subjected to.

3. Proper tournaments such as Champions league, FA Cup, World Cup, Euro champs etc etc

4. Getting rid of bugs such as letting a player run after a complete lost cause and then putting it out for a throw in

5. Ref/linesmen etc on pitch

6. More TV like replays etc like on Fifa

7. Up to date squads and a proper transfer system when playing in leagues like the ones suggested above.

8. The player 'advantage' sorting out as its complete **** at the moment.

9. Getting headers back to being good instead of the rubbish they have inexplicably changed it to, especially in defence.

10. Authentic crowd effects for different teams etc.

And then I reckon it will be pretty spot on :)

To be honest I couldn't give a rats-ass about licenses for official team, player, tournament names. As long as they provide editors and name the players close to who they are supposed to be that's good enough, and even if they had to drop the official altogether I wouldn't be too bothered if they churned out a realistic football game. Obv, if FIFA and PES were identical on the gameplay front (FIFA like PES rather than PES like FIFA) I'd probably be swung by a license, but I like the editors.

There are only a couple of things that I'd really like, I'll let Konami do the gameplay thing as they seem to be genius' at that:

1) Weather. It's all good and well having sun and rain but sometimes games are played in snow. I guess this goes back to something I thought about ages ago and posted it on here. It would be great if the game was geographically and timeline aware. ie. a game in Kiev at the peak of winter has a 40% chance of snow, where as if it were in London it's a lot more likely to rain, or in Rio it'll be sunny ('cos it's their summer).

2) Following on from the last one, it needs a calendar. Players are more tired during intensive times of the year and recover more if they have no games for a week.

3) Having the ref on the pitch would be neat but only if the ps2 could cope with it and the player ai (which is by far the most important thing)

4) Free kicks could be greatly improved. As someone said I don't want to boot the ball forward every time. I need more control over where I want to put the ball if I want to pass it. I've taken ground passes meant for a player B who is behind another player A, but in a far more open position and not far enough to warrant a high ball which would give the opposition chance to close him down. I press ground pass and A intercepts the pass.

The ref being on the pitch will no cause this huge drop in frames.. its jusrt ONE guy, running aimlessly.. And FIFA ahas had it for years.. SO we know it can be done on the ps2 :) geesh the ps1 coul do it.
