Question of the Week: Does The Treble mean anything any more?

Xifio

The Von Trapps
from the sixties to the noughties, there was only 1 treble winner each decade ...

but just halfway through this decade, we've already seen 3 ...

has The Treble lost its meaning? does the lack of competition for the top dog in Spain, Italy, and Germany skew the stats for what was previously an astonishing and rare feat? or is it just as significant as ever, and merely indicative of the Golden Era of football we are currently witnessing?

I think the multitude of treble winners is just indicative that we've moved into a new era: one of the Super Club.

I think it does devalue the treble. For a team like Bayern, Barca or perhaps even Juve, the league is at worst 50% theirs, similar odds for the cup. The only true challenge is the CL.

They have. Through Alexis

So a year after saying he's not good enough for Barcelona and adding to the stupid chorus to force him out of the club, you want to claim him now?

The Legend
I think it's still very meaningful for certain clubs, if Atleti, Arsenal, Dortmund, or Juve won it they'd be cutting backflips. For clubs like Barca, Bayern, and Madrid it's almost like "you could've done more" if they win a double.

We had lots of doubles in the past ... I think clubs take domestic cup competition more seriously these days ...

Btw, this Huntelaar shit is so outdated ...

I know! But when!? I feel like the son of a billionaire, one day you're parents will die, but will it be years or decades? :o

This should've been our year. The league was the easiest it has been in a while. I doubt it will be as easy next year so I'd say we've still got a while. Would be nice if Valencia and Atleti and Wolfsburg and the likes would make their respective leagues more challenging.
