Question about developing a youth player

johncmcleod

Youth Team
One of my youth players just finished his first season with my Sporting Lisbon U-19 squad. He averaged a 6.9ish during the year if I remember correctly. For his second season (he's 17 now), do I keep him on the U-19 team? Promote him to the reserve team? Loan him out to a Liga Vitalis (2nd division) team? Or the division below that? It seems when I loan players out they usually don't get good ratings. He's a left mid and has a three and a half star potential, and when he came on to my team the scout said he'd be one of the best of his generation. His ratings are pretty good but I don't think they improved over the season.

what I do is check the player's reports and its written there for eg "this player is good enough to play in the 2nd division at best" or something similar. Then I try to loan him out to a team which is the level he's good for or a higher league. If you send him to a lower league it wouldn't help him develop much. Send him on loan to a league he's good enough to compete for a first place. I usually reject teams who want my players on loan as backup or cover. I accept those which say he'll be a valuable member of the team.

Otherwise if you can't loan him out to a suitable club, try to get a senior player as his tutor. If he's better than the other players in the U19 team, then its sensible to promote him to reserve team.

It all depends man. I don't usually loan players out unless they're 21 and can't quite crack the first team. When they're younger I prefer to have them in my training facilities being tutored.

Keep in mind that player stats don't really affect the player wanting more playing time. Sending him out on loan is basically you saying that he's close to getting a spot on the team, and needs first team experience.

My formula for a -10 player is to keep them at the squad until they're 20 (playing youth and reserve matches (and unimportant first-team matches)) and start loaning them out until I can't find anyone to take them (or they don't wanna go). If the player is good, I can usually keep this going until he's 22-23, and by then he'd probably have played at some semi-big club. When he comes back I keep him at the reserves and start giving them minutes and work him into the squad.

Usually works so long as I don't have a huge squad and a lot of youths, in which case some get loaned out sooner because there's no room at the youth line-ups.

Pretty much what AZ said.

I personally like to put 3 or so promising players on my bench so that if I am winning the game I can give them first team playing time, but if I'm losing I can use my other 4 experienced subs. If they are good enough to play for you in the future I say you can put them on bench but if they won't make your team then I don't even bother with them.

I found this method to be effective, it seems that players getting first hand experience from you really does improve them over the years...

for the fact that all my youth players reach topclass, international teams enc, and win all the prices, i guess my theorie is right, it matters allot!

10 matches in the -19/youth team/reserves, and the players slightly improves
1 match in the first team is already more experiense en they learn more in 1 match at the first time than at youth teams, so loaning out to sattelietclubs is awesome

No, that has more to do with you using FMRTE to edit all your youth player potentials, or with you lying.

The player potential value is set once the player is created and the game has started. So to have all the best players out of your academy is really really good luck, or bs.

However, your theory is similar to mine. Playing first team football somewhere reasonably decent has always been much better for development than youth team football.
