QUANTUM OF SOLACE continues the high octane adventures of James Bond (DANIEL CRAIG) in CASINO ROYALE.

Betrayed by Vesper, the woman he loved, 007 fights the urge to make his latest mission personal. Pursuing his determination to uncover the truth, Bond and M (JUDI DENCH) interrogate Mr White (JESPER CHRISTENSEN) who reveals the organisation which blackmailed Vesper is far more complex and dangerous than anyone had imagined.

Forensic intelligence links an Mi6 traitor to a bank account in Haiti where a case of mistaken identity introduces Bond to the beautiful but feisty Camille (OLGA KURYLENKO), a woman who has her own vendetta. Camille leads Bond straight to Dominic Greene (MATHIEU AMALRIC), a ruthless business man and major force within the mysterious organisation.

On a mission that leads him to Austria, Italy and South America, Bond discovers that Greene, conspiring to take total control of one of the world’s most important natural resources, is forging a deal with the exiled General Medrano (JOAQUIN COSIO). Using his associates in the organisation, and manipulating his powerful contacts within the CIA and the British government, Greene promises to overthrow the existing regime in a Latin American country, giving the General control of the country in exchange for a seemingly barren piece of land.

In a minefield of treachery, murder and deceit, Bond allies with old friends in a battle to uncover the truth. As he gets closer to finding the man responsible for the betrayal of Vesper, 007 must keep one step ahead of the CIA, the terrorists and even M, to unravel Greene’s sinister plan and stop his organisation.

1) not a usual Bond title ... all the previous ones have been simple, straightforward, and (dare I say it) blunt -- "Live and Let Die", "License to Kill", "A View to Kill", and even "Casino Royale" ...

but "Quantum of Solace" is a bit more esoteric, and seems to convey something a bit more subtle -- ironically not a quality usually associated with JB ...

2) the organization is called "Green Planet", which seems a poor attempt at combining elements of a pun, a topic in popular culture, and foreshadowing the subject of Dominic Greene's motives ...

in any case, I'm going to be in the theatres watching it like most everyone else ... looking forward to seeing the gadgets and especially the stunt choreography that should match the "awe-factor" of those in Casino Royale -- particularly the Madagascar fugitive-on-foot chase ...

1) "Quantum of Solace", just as the others titles you mentioned, is Fleming-material, QoS being a short story which involves Bond going to a dinner party in the Bahamas where he is told a story of infidelity and what it can do - in extreme measures - to a person's well-being. A must read and one of my favourite Fleming-stories. The 'translation' of QoS is "a minimal amount of comfort". Wonder how it'll tie-in with the movie...

2) Greene Planet is a cover organisation and WILL NOT BE the name for the SPECTRE-like secret organisation

you could have gone for modicum (of comfort) ...

while I would describe myself as very well-read, I haven't read any of the Bond books ... but I too do wonder how the title ties in with the movie, though it seems it would probably be a subtle connection -- that's merely the point I was trying to make in my previous post ... no idea how the book goes, but since you recommend it that heavily, I might give it a read if I can get my hands on a copy ...

so all that I mentioned about the foreshadowing and the pun and all that is just bilge?

Oh man, you must read the books! Personally I think they're beter than the movies. You'll learn so much more about the character.

btw Whenever I find out what "bilge" means I'll answer your second question.

I don't see the rumor anywhere in this thread, so I'll post it. A friend of mine said that SPECTRE is coming back and Al Pacino is going to be Blofeld, complete with the white cat and everything. He's just going to make a cameo in this film, but he will be the main villain in the next few movies. This sounds awesome to me, and is the perfect direction for the Bond movies to go, going all the way back to Diamonds are Forever and the late 60's Sean Connery movies.
