QoTW: Does the transfer market need changes?

Is the current state of the transfer market a positive development or a negative one? Obviously, the insane transfers involve mostly the English clubs due to the TV deals and China but the overall financial bubble of football, is it really healthy?

The emergence of the super agents like Jorge Mendes and Mino Raiola with their questionable influence across football. I mean Monaco, Benfica, Real Madrid, Valencia and now even Manchester United have allowed them to become major players.

Is this insane amount of money a positive for young players developing or the huge price tags the players have including just developing footballers a good thing?

I'm not as critical of the opportunists as much as I am in dark whether the current system that allows this sort of thing is how it should be or is progressive towards making football better.

What are your thoughts? For or against and what do you feel could or should be changed? Does the transfer market need an overhaul even or some sort of policing/moderation to keep it sane and balanced?

I don't like the extent of agents being involved, but I don't have a problem with the money. It's supply and demand, and if clubs are making more money then they are going to require more money to sell their best players. It's really just something the bigger clubs, and the smaller stupider clubs, are doing; you can still be extremely successful like Benfica/Dortmund/Porto/Atletico until now/Spurs to an extent/Leicester without spending big money.

I think players/agents have to get smarter with release clauses and running down contracts since almost all clubs can refuse to sell regardless of the size of the offer and the buying club

Hmm, fair enough. The market dictates. The agents have become way too influential without any policing which is unhealthy imo. There are examples of failures too. Monaco to an extent and then, Valencia are back in the shit. Real Madrid at one point were filled with Jorge Mendes' Portuguese players. Credit where its due to Florentino for going the Spanish and homegrown way.

But doesn't that put the club in a bad position? I'm in favor of buyout clauses though.

Salary caps absolutely not and no transfer fee caps either. Just savvier negotiations. Players need to realise that for the first time in a while, when the sign a contract they might actually be expected to honour it's full duration and should act accordingly

In football manager I target players who are in their last year of their contract but these days players get offered renewals 2 years before their contract run out. For Mkhitaryan, Bundesliga player of the year cost 26 millions and Sadio Mane cost like 34 millions.

Managers should play FM more often and do like me.
