I've decided a little late to join the QCT. Anyway here goes.

I was walking down the streets of Berlin when a funny-looking man in a trenchcoat offered me a job as manager of Union Berlin. I thought I'd humour him and agreed to meet him outside the Stadion Alte Fosterel in downtown Berlin the next day(if it isn't downtown, I don't care. I was touring the bloody city when this happened). Much to my surprise I found the chairman of Union Berlin Heiner Bertram waiting to greet me. Also there were assistant manager Ivan Tishanski and the rest of the coaching staff. Mr. Bertram invited me into his office and we had a little chat about the events of the previous day and I was assured by him that no experience or tactical knowledge was necessary to manage Union Berlin. In fact, thanks to this policy Union Berlin have to date never won a major trophy, and Bertram said he had full confidence that if I accepted the job, this fine tradition would continue. A starting wage of 30000 pounds per week was too good to refuse, seeing as I had spent my last ten days in Berling living in a cardboard box after my wallet had been stolen. I set off to work immediately, giving a press conference that was also open to the entire fan base of Union Berlin. He later told me he enjoyed the speech very much and I was invited over to his house for dinner. After familiarising myself with the fan, I set about assessing my squad. Starting off with only 29 people can be a problem, and I immediately scoured the market looking for free transfers and bargain buys. To my surprise(not really but who's going to notice) I found out that players of the calibre of Taribo West, Josep Guardiola and Kiko were all free agents, and willing to join my club! I also offered a contract to Jesper Blomqvist and a veteran named Enrique Estebaranz. Guardiola and Kiko demanded too much money, and the deal fell through there and then. Jesper Blomqvist chose Chievo, and I hardly blame him. However, despite having more illustrious suitors, Taribo West indicated that Union Berlin was always his first choice and I had no reason to lose sleep at night. I set the tactics and placed everyone in a training regime. No friendlies were planned, and I didn't want to place too much pressure on sucha small squad and risk injuries, so it was decided that we would go into the season without any friendlies. One of my German friends who is a CM fanatic told me to look up young Belarussian starlets Sergey Nikiforenko and Maxim Tsigalko. I decided to give it a shot and lodged bids for them. Meanwhile, a young Englishman named Johnny Allan caught my eye as an excellent finisher and team player. I lodged a 40k bid for him and it went through in no time. 18 year old Johnny Allan became my first signing. The next day, Nikiforenko and Tsigalko signed on the dotted line to add further to my attacking talent. Estebaranz signed soon after and then Taribo West shocked the world (but not me) by signing for Union Berlin. My final signing was Kieran Richardson, the 16 year old former Manchester United winger looking for a club. He was only too glad that someone wanted him and gleefully signed on. After all this transfer activity, the board informe me that the club's finances were in the red and i would have to sell players quickly if i wanted to keep my job. I immediately sold Patrick Vogel, Hristo Koilov and Christian Fahrmann. I also offered a contract to Rune Allmenning Jarstein, the young Norwegian goalie from Herkules. He accepted quickly despite the interest from bigger clubs, saying that guaranteed first team football influenced his decision. My final move to date has been getting rid of that no-talent prat Ivan Tishanski(he said I smelled funny - wouldn't you smell funny if you had lived in a cardboard box for ten days?) and brought in a Polish assistant named Krzysztof Polujanski. He assures me that I'll be able to pronounce it by the time Union Berlin win the league. I fear I'll have to fire him before then.

The first match

The plan of not playing friendly matches backfired and none of the squad were at 100% fitness, as a result of which i couldn't pick the strongest squad, and two of my players suffered injuries. However, the result was good and it is an encouraging start to the season, inspite of the fact that we beat one of the weaker teams in the league. Interestingly, all five goalscorers were debutants:D

We're not even a third of the way through yet mate - you've got plenty of time.

Looks like a good start.
