Playstation 2 Problem!

Hey!. I need sum feedback please.

I recently purchased a pre owned original Playstation 2 from Gamestation.
It was part of a package coming with 2 games. I purchased WRC: Rally Evolved and Gran Turismo 4. I have encountered a problem though. WRC: Rally Evolved works fine, but Gran Turismo 4 failed to load. I exchanged it for another copy. Again this copy of the game did not work either. I was told it was a common fault on these machines. Having heard this i exchanged it for Midnight Club 3 DUB Remix. And again this game fails to load. I would like to know if there is a problem with the console or if there is a range of PS2 games that fail to work on the original consoles?. Your knowledge would be
appreciated.

Definitely a problem with the console, as I used to play GT4 on my original "fat" PS2. Could be the first signs of the dreaded disc read problem, which was common in the old non-slim PS2s.

My old PS2 takes 30mins to load a disc, if i plan on playing on it i actually have to plan to play on it (H)

All the games I have work fine on my ps2 (which I purchased in 1997 and droped severall times), try to find out if your system is moded because my friend had the same problem when he moded his ps2, he could only play boutleg games.

to be honest, the used PS2 isn't recommended; you never know what happened to that machine from previous owner.

from your problem, it could be about the lens getting weak reading the games..

Does look like the dreaded read disc error - any warranty with the second hand one? (unlikely)

My PS2 is from the first batch bought over to the UK and is still going strong! Good times, may have to fire up some FFX now.
