does anyone know why its not possible to choose the oposite team when playing a fa cup or league because me and my friend want to choose 2 teams in the fa cup for example and when I play as my team my friend can then play as the apposing team, this doesn't seem possible in fifa 08 and its very annoying, I hope I'm just doing something wrong but I don't think so, there doesn't seem to be a 2 player fa cup or league, it would seem its only possible to play friendly's against each other... another big f**k up by ea....

Thats not what I meant, I mean that its not possible to have 2 players me with liverpool and my friend with arsenal.. and then when he gets drawn against spurs for example I would then play as spurs against him..( to try and knock him out) and if spurs winning then there is only 1 player left .. me as liverpool and then when I play my next gamr maybe against man utd or everton my friend is then in control of the team against mr ( to try and knock me out..) in ALL the fifa series up to 08 this has been possible but not now.. now fifa 08 is a singel player game..( except online..) or you must play on the same team...
the 1 exception to this is if you start a knockout tournament or league with 8 players and choose all the teams as human teams and then simulate the games you don't want to play......

yeh yeh i get you! but i dont know why you would want to do that? the good bit of manager mode is kicking the PC's ass! i dont wanna beat my friend .... ill just make a torunament if i wanna do something like that or ill just do a one off game, i agree with you though they should allow it still, coz i mean you wanna still do that right? im sure there are others?
bigswede2, two human player in a "licensed" tournament is absolutely not right in FIFA 08. Playing these tournaments has one big target, which is unlocking stuff. If you want your friend to play with you a tournament and in a different team then unlocking is now easier and it seems like a cheat.
Try creating a custom tournament, and I still find it useless to do a tournament between you and your friend against the CPU! if you both together then that's great, but each on a team is lame, and useless... Just start a quick match!

But the whole point for me and my friend is that i want to win the fa cup with liverpool and he wants to win it with arsenal, so I'm playing as liverpool he wants to be the other team and try to knock me out of the cup and I want to do the same to him, but this is not possible anymore......
why play just friendly games with nothing to win for...?

I am totally with you.
2 player leagues etc is the main reason I play football games. Me and a friend both choose a side (lets say I as Man Utd and my friend Chelsea). Then whoever Man Utd is facing my friend plays as, and whenever my friend as Chelsea play I play as their opposition. It is far more fun than playing a one off game.
