Hi Chaps, I'm back :)

Got some opinions for you, see what you make of this...

So Borjan, I did what you suggested and got FIFA 08, to see what you were talking about, admittedly I got it on PS3 (I haven't tried the PC version) and I really didn't like it. The players were so slow (no speed setting in PS3 version, like on XBOX 360 - don't know if PC ver has this) I really tried to get along with it, but in the end, I traded it in for PES 08 (again for the PS3).

Wow, what a difference. Pes 08 on the PS3 (although admittedly slightly jerky at times) is such a better implementation that the PC version it's not even funny.

And the main difference? Speed. My PC (just so you don't think I'm trying to play on any old junk) is a Core 2 Duo E6600, 2 gig ram, 8800 GTX, so you'll agree it probably isn't underpowered and yet, it just isn't the same. It's like the players are wading through treacle by comparison...

So it's occurred to me, that the PS3 version is going to be more or less how Konami intended it to be, just because the system we are all playing it on is standard - every PS3 plays the same way as they all have the same hardware.

Is it just the fact that once again, we're the victims of yet another shoddy PC port? Probably.

I did see in the kitserver forum that there is a frame skip option in settings, I just wonder if the game is supposed to run faster and we're all so used to playing it at PES 6 speed that people thought it couldn't possibly be supposed to run faster.

I have not tried this yet myself, but will and if anyone is interested, I'll let you know the outcome.

One last thing, pes and fifa are computer games - a computer game is something you usually do because it's fun - I didn't crack one smile playing Fifa and that says it all for me...

I just finished playing pes 08 on the PC. Don't know what I was talking about. It's just as fast on the pc as it is on the ps3... In fact, it's a bit better on the pc... Frame skip made no difference at all...

Bottom line... it's what coosmac said, just play it a bit and all of a sudden it all clicks into place and before you know it, you can't believe what a good game it is. Really enjoying playing this game right now...

PES 08 & Konami - all is forgiven.

no, you put it totally in wrong direction

I lived with pes whole last 10 years

I know every trick, im best in my neighborhoood, and Im in top 15 players in Balkans online league

Im also in first class in pes6, and NEVER play with Brasil/Inter

I never said it is impossible to beat Barca or Brasil with weaker teams, I have done it numerous times

Im just saying that PES5 was much more balanced and real game than PEs6 and 2008.

QUOTE]

I totally agree with borjan, I love PES 5...Best in the series...

I understand why the rest are unlike us...

Basically it boils own to the type of player the person is in "real life", meaning how he actually plays football in person...

PES 5 is design based on Thierry Henry's perception for the dribbling and finishing part...you do not run straight and push off defenders like a rugby match...you have to wrong foot the defender and go the direction he did not predict...very often using the defender's momentum when pressing against himself...by "sliding sideways"....I can relate to that...cos I play as a winger and I subscribe to the "Henry" way of play rather than the HardBall England run straight Gerald or Lampard style....I have many friends who plays differently from me in real football ad they have the same problem relating to PES 5....

Likewise the pressing style of PES 5 is realistic in my opinion, you have to cut off the ball by running and catching up with the oppenent and cut in his path (automatic)...cannot totally rely oon pressing button as you will end up with the opponent caving at his knees to the ground in response to draw a free kick...isn't this always the case in the EPL?? I think John Terry got it right....

Basically I hate PES 6 for making PES like virtual striker the arcade game...run straight brainless rugby style football....

KONAMI should make a PES followup with PES 2008's graphics but PES 5 gameplay style...

So, if you're older than 25 and still playing FIFA - grow up and if you're younger than 25 and playing FIFA - you'll learn...

But this is the best piece of advice I can give, if you want to enjoy playing football, stick with PES 6, it's still the best football game around.

I'm 43 and this year its Fifa 08 for me. I'm nobodys fanboy and I will play whichever I think is the better game. And for your advice? Well your post is very childish and imature from someone that seems to be grown up. Well anyone who goes around indicating their opinion is all that counts and anyone who doesnt agree isnt sensible like thenselves shouldnt be listened to on any matter.

It's a fair cop gov - and I admitted that in a later post and apologised.

I have always said, all the way through my posts that it is my opinion and for 43 you are demonstrating just how childish and immature you are by not reading through the rest my posts before having a go.

If that is the only thing that you didn't like about all my posts in this thread, then you really are a sad little man indeed, with nothing better to do than try to start an argument, without first getting your facts straight.

Gamespot are no one's fanboys that's for sure.
"...you'll be impressed at how well Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 plays on the PlayStation 2. It captures the realism of the sport almost perfectly, but most importantly, it remains eminently playable".

That is said about the PS2 version of the game.Hardly Fifa-fanboy coverage.
That beyond that the game has numerous flaws that outdo the good is obvious.Fifa 08 is the winner for me too this year.

Owned!

Fifa 08 on the 360 does it for me. Konami need to embrace next gen hardware, be more ambitious and evolve the franchise. It is running out of steam.

Oh, by the way, that was meant for O'neill and his 'sheep'

Actually, I refer to pes fanboys as sheep. Not all, but the ones that deny that the series isn't evolving, that konami are indifferent and that things like overall presentation, audio, grfx still look like a 7th grade arts and crafts project. The ones that swear that PES 2008 on the 360 is a good effort! PES needs to return to greatness. IMO, they have been degenerating since last years dismal attempt at next gen and this year is not much better.

Sorry OrgulloVikingo, I was refering to the post above where the guy just jumped on the bandwagon because I said something stupid and apologised for it later, but they hadn't taken the time to find that out before going off on one.

That's all I meant.

As for PES, I've been playing a bit more PES 08 and I'm beginning to get the little extra touches they have included and I'm not quite as disappointed as I was initially. Where they have dropped the ball is in the menu system - they have left out things which should not be left out, for instance, in master league and tournaments, you cannot select kits. Last night I had to play against a team with almost exactly the same kit - ridiculous and unacceptable. It's like they 'forgot' to include it.

And don't get me started on Konami - what a bunch of t&%£s, have you ever been to the UK website? Totally useless. No patches, no information, no nothing.

But, I prefer PES to Fifa and unless they do something drastic to fifa, the gameplay is never going to match up to pes, which is a shame as the graphics are marvellous and the presentation is a lot better than pes.

What we really need is an amalgum of both games, the best bits from each, maybe that would stop all this pointless bickering about which game is better.

As I have said in earlier posts, games are about personal choice, personally I don't get on with Fifa - I find Pro Evo the right game for me - there's no reason why I can't say that, but every time I do, someone has a pop at me!! Which is nuts that I can't express my opinions, isn't that what a forum is all about?

Anyway, have a look at my next post, I emailed Konami about the screen resolution and aspect ratio problems for those of us with Widescreen monitors, you will not believe the reply from them, it defies reality.

Email to Konami :

Hi,

Why are there no proper widescreen modes listed in settings on the PC version of PES 2008? I have a 22" widescreen monitor (1680 x 1050) and I also have a new LCD TV (1920 x 1080).

Is there anything you can do about this as these are the only two monitors I have and the game looks so very wrong in the resoultions it is currently offering me.

Thanks

Email from Konami :

My Reply :

Excuse me? Update my graphic drivers? Are you people stupid or do you think that I am?

That is the lamest request I have ever heard. I am an IT manager by trade and I think I should know when something needs a driver update or not.

You just have not thought about this reply one little bit. The game needs a patch, not just for the graphical side, but for other things too, like the fact that you can't select kits during a master league or cup match. I couldn't tell which team was which last night, ridiculous.

Kitserver has sorted out my aspect ratio and resolution problems, just a shame it wasn't like that out of the box.
