History

Paris Saint-Germain FC, or PSG, is a French football club based in Paris. The club stadium is the 49,000 seater Parc des Princes.

The club was founded in August 1970. Gathering funds from 20,000 subscribers the founding marked the reappearance of a major club in Paris. The driving forces were Pierre-Etienne Guyot of Racing-Club de France and the owners of Sangermanois. The union of R.C. Paris and Sangermanois resulted in Saint-Germain-en-Laye. The new club played in the Nationale (second) division for the 1970-71 season. The club won the division and was promoted to the top division in their first season.

After finishing 16th in 1971-72 the club split in May. The Sangermanois half of the club joined C.A. Montreuil and remained in the top division as Paris F.C., the rest of the club was relegated to D3 as amateur side Paris Saint-Germain. PSG was promoted to D2 in 1972-73, as champions following the disqualification of Quevilly. The following season the club returned to professional status and finished second in the league, winning promotion to the top division in a play-off with Valenciennes. In a pleasing symmetry for PSG supporters, Paris F.C. were relegated in that season.

The club has remained in the top division since 1974, winning the league twice, in 1985-86 and in 1993-94. The club has also won the Coupe de France six times (1982, 1983, 1993, 1995, 1998, and 2004). In Europe the club won the Cup Winners' Cup in 1996 and has had a number of good runs in the Champions League, but never beyond the semi-finals.

A of €8 million is understood to have been agreed between two clubs and Kalou should seal the deal in the coming week.

PSG look set for a busy few days as reports suggest that Milan's Vikash Dhorasoo and David Rozehnal of Club Brugge are also said to be homing in on a move to Parc des Princes.

Is Ljuboja still with PSG?

he wants to stay but psg wants to sell him (st etienne ???)

Paris Saint Germain striker Pedro Pauleta is expected to ink a one-year contract extension when he returns from his holidays.

The talented Portuguese striker will commit to the capital outfit until 2007 - ending speculation over his long-term future.

Pauleta netted an impressive 15 goals in 36 starts last season, despite what was a largely disappointing campaign at Parc des Princes.

Meanwhile, Milan are currently refusing to allow Vikash Dhorasoo to move back to France - as the two clubs struggle to concur on a deal.

A fee in the region of €3-4 million would likely secure the player's services but as yet PSG have not lodged a sufficient bid.

However, PSG are still hopeful of agreeing deals with Auxerre's Bonaventure Kalou and Brugge's David Rozehnal in the next couple of days

yes ronaldo

Paris Saint Germain have finally struck a deal to sign Club Brugge defender David Rozehnal.

The Czech Republic international was being chased by a string of clubs but he is now poised to concur on a move to Parc des Princes.

The likes of Cologne, Birmingham City, Fulham and Shakhtar Donetsk had all been put forward as admirers of the stopper.

But PSG have long been leading the chase for Rozehnal's signature, with talks having progressed during the past couple of days.

Earlier in the week, Rozehnal's agent conceded an accord was some way off but Brugge have now confirmed they have agreed to sell the defender to PSG.

Brugge, who have signed Joos Valgaeren from Celtic as a replacement, can expect a tidy sum for the sale of Rozehnal.

Rozehnal is due to sign a four-year contract in the French capital next week after undergoing a medical.

David Rozehnal has revealed Czech Republic team-mate Jaroslav Plasil helped convince him to move to Paris Saint Germain.

The Club Brugge defender is due to complete his move to Parc des Princes later this week after agreeing a four-year contract with PSG.

The French giants had been haggling over a fee with Brugge for the centre half and found an accord on Friday.

Rozehnal will undergo a medical on Thursday and is delighted that he will have the opportunity to represent PSG.

He admits a talk with Monaco midfielder, and Czech colleague, Plasil persuaded him that moving to Ligue 1 was the right decision.

"I will be in Paris on Thursday to have medical examinations and then everything will be official," Rozehnal told L'Equipe.

"It is really great to come to Paris. PSG is one of the greatest clubs in France and also a great name in Europe.

"I will discover a new league, a new club, a new stadium and a new lifestyle.

"I talked with Monaco's Jaroslav Plasil in the Czech national team. He talked to me about PSG and the level of Le Championnat and he only said positive things.

"To me, on a technical level it is one of the best European leagues.

"I want to play difficult matches every weekend and I know it will be the case. But I also have to become part of the first-team members. Here, I really felt the officials wanted me."

French striker Jeremie Aliadiere is reportedly in talks over a new contract at Arsenal.

The young hot shot has suffered with injuries during the past two seasons and that has restricted his progress at Highbury.

He made just seven appearances last term and is waiting for the chance to prove he can be a first-team regular under Arsene Wenger.

Aliadiere has 12 months remaining on his present contract but reports in France suggest discussions over an extension have commenced.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is a fan of the 22-year-old but has conceded that it is make-or-break time for Aliadiere.

The attacker revealed in the spring that he would welcome a move to Paris Saint Germain if he failed to establish himself at Highbury.

PSG are still an option for Aliadiere, while clubs in England and Spain are keeping an eye on the player's contract talks.

Liverpool defender Djimi Traore has revealed he would like to represent Paris Saint Germain at some point in his career.

The UEFA Champions League winner is happy at Anfield after enjoying a fine end to the season with the Merseysiders.

Although the full back almost joined neighbours Everton last year, he will be hoping to further establish himself in Rafa Benitez's plans next term.

A move to the French capital does appeal to Traore, however, although that would have to be once he has fulfilled all his ambitions at Liverpool.

"That club [PSG] makes me dream," he told Le Foot.

"They have had some trouble but I would really love to wear their shirt one day."

PSG finished ninth in the Ligue 1 table last season, a disappointing 28 points behind champions Lyon.

Vikash Dhorasoo has officially sealed his move to Paris Saint Germain from Milan.

Dhorasoo has signed a two-year deal at Parc des Princes after spending just a year at San Siro with the Italian giants.

The 31-year-old struggled to get regular action with Carlo Ancelotti's side, and asked the Rossoneri if he could leave to return to France.

The former Lyon man has now joined the capital club and he is delighted to have returned to play in Ligue 1.

"For me it's a life choice. Paris is a magic city," said Dhorasoo, who will undergo a medical in the next few days.

PSG will shell out €3 million for the services of Dhorasoo, who said that Milan did want him to sign a new deal with them, but he was determined to return to France.

"We had to convince the Milan officials and we needed so time," Dhorasoo told L'Equipe.

"At first they said: 'Vikash don't leave.' And it was no bluff, they even proposed two more seasons. Once I made my decision I didn't want to be influenced by a prolongation with a wage increase. I never thought about the World Cup.

"I come at Paris to play at PSG, not to play in the French team. I could not see any interest in leaving the biggest club in the world to play in another club abroad.

"I wanted to play with the club of my dreams and I went to Milan. Now I will rejoin the club where I wanted to go in my career."

PSG coach Laurent Fournier now wants to sign two new forwards, with Auxerre's Benjani and Bayern Munich's Roque Santa Cruz on his wanted list.
