Thought I'd write about our fantastic league that ended just 2 weeks ago.
FC Flora was crowned champions for the 9th time (league was formed in '92 after the independence from USSR). After the last match, drunken "ultras" from the neo-nazi group "FCF Right Wing" did a pitch invasion of 10 people. As the match officials had no idea what to do, the fans celebrated the title win with the team - almost droping the cup itself and burning few players with flares...
According to UEFA only leages that are worse than ours are Andorra, Northern-Ireland, Luxembourg, Armenia, Faroes and San Marino. All four teams qualified for UEFA competitions got eliminated in the first rounds.
Last place team called Ajax ended to season with 4 draws and 32 losses, with a goal difference of 11-192. One of their best players was Boris Dugan - the founder and the president of the club, aged 51.
Aleksandr Cekulajevs who Narva Trans (finished 3rd) bought from Iceland went to score a record 46 goals this season.
Historically the second best team in Estonia - FC Levadia from Tallinn (finished 4th) has a player named Konstantin Nahk, born in Russia, but with an estonian citizenship. He was kicked out of the club after making a nazi salute in one match...and because he didn't want to pass the ball to players who are ethnic estonians and/or younger than him.
Since getting the UEFA coaching license is too expensive for us, some teams payed for coaches with license to sit on the bench on the matchdays but the coaching in practice was done by people without license.
The average attandance this year was 205, which is the new record, last year it was 160. With some teams playing their home matches infront of 5 people. The record attendance this season was 2700. A free match between title rivals Kalju and Flora, the number was high because a singer who represented us on eurovision this year gave a full leght live concert after the match.
3 out 10 teams in the premier league belong to FC Flora (pretty much their reserves) and the club president sometimes like to punish players from Flora sending them to play for FC Kuressaare or FC Viljandi.
5 out 10 teams are amateurs.
All this makes me wonder - how the **** did we manage to reach to the EURO play-offs?
