Our defense, at least on paper, looks depressingly poor. Orozco and Parkhurst are alright, but who else do we have? Ianni is terrible. I didn't think that highly of him at the U-20 level, and after seeing him in MLS, I seriously hope he doesn't see the field. Wynne is good going forward, but he's never a sure thing at the back. McCarty is not even a defender, although he's fairly versatile. Pretty bleak picture overall, and it's a shame because we have some pretty good attacking players on the squad this time.

"top-class"? a medal coz he's a nice guy or something ... ? ye, ok ... :smilex:

and, btw, you guys are in a group with the Nederland and Nigeria, so it'll be a steep task just to make it out of the group stage, let alone land a medal ...

I like him because he never stops working, he chases everything and works tirelessly. That's what caused the Fulham fans to love him.

You know, Jonathan Spector is 22. It's insane that he wasn't picked.

Japan 0-1 USA
Holland 0-0 Nigeria

We're top of the group. :D

Not a great game by the US, but we did enough to win.

Guzan - 6 (little to do)
Orozco - 6 (had his hands full, but did reasonably well)
Parkhurst - 6 (quiet)
Edu - 7 (rock solid)
Wynne - 8 (outstanding game all-around, MOTM)
Bradley - 6 (meh)
Kljestan - 5 (too many bad passes)
Rogers - 6 (had some good moments down the left side)
Holden - 6 (crucial goal)
Adu - 6 (not his day)
McBride - 6 (was fouled approximately 100 times)

Some nice goals in this first day. Giovinco, Hernanes, Dong, and Messi's goal was good too. All groups has the same points, i thought that Netherlands would score at least 2 goals, but looks like it was difficult.

Is this only men soccer thread?

No. You can talk about smacking our women's team if you want.

Kind of serves them right for being so damn cocky, they're like the men's basketball team.

I did this topic to talk about men soccer, and in the first post there's only things about them, and i will only actualize things (in the first post) about the men sector, but if you want it, you can talk about women soccer.
