Oh My J. League - Matchdays 33 & 34 thread [P|R]

Bobby

The Legend
All teams have played 32 matches. There are 34 matchdays.

1. Kashima 57 (+24)
-----------------
2. Nagoya 55 (+11)
3. Kawasaki 54 (+17)
-----------------
4. Urawa 53 (+14)
5. Oita 52 (+7) [Yamazaki Nabisco Cup Winners 2008]
6. FC Tokyo 52 (+5)
=============
11. Yokohama FM 42 (+4)
12. Kyoto 40 (-7)
13. Omiya 39 (-10)
14. Albirex 39 (-14)
15. Jubilo 37 (-6)
-----------------
16. Verdy 37 (-8)
-----------------
17. JEF 35 (-18)
18. Sapporo 18 (-31) [Relegated to J2]

1-3 get a spot in the AFC Champions League (Japan's 4th spot goes to the Emperor's Cup winner)

16 is a home-away promotion-relegation playoff with the 3rd team from J2 (either Vegalta Sendai [currently 3rd], Montedio Yamagata [2nd], Cerezo Osaka [4th], Shonan Bellmare [5th], or Sagan Tosu [6th]).

17 and 18 get relegated.

Well, I think it's exciting anyway.

Ok, so I'm still posting here.

Only three teams (heh, "only", any other league would kill for that) can win the title on the final day but the odds are stacked firmly in favor of the Antlers.

1. Kashima Antlers (60 points, +25 Goal Differential, 55 Goals Scored)
Will become champions if:
  • They defeat relegated Consadole Sapporo, or
  • Kawasaki and Nagoya fail to win.

2. Nagoya Grampus (58 points, +13 Goal Differential, 48 Goals Scored)
Will become champions if:
  • They defeat 4th place Oita Trinita and Kashima lose, or
  • Win by at least 13 clear goals and Kashima draw.

3. Kawasaki Frontale (57 points, +21 Goal Differential, 63 Goals Scored)
Will become champions if:
  • They defeat 17th place Tokyo Verdy and Kashima lose and Nagoya fail to win, and
  • Goal difference must swing in their favor.

Yay?

Yay. I hope Nagoya Grampus Eight wins it. Only reason is that they have a former Rosenborg player in Frode Johnsen. (Y)

Isn't the J League pretty notorious for being fixed? Granted it hasn't been proven, but I thought there were complaints year after year that the final match day was always set up to be exciting.

Yea, there are a ton of rumors about it.

It does seem to be close a lot, but I think a lot of that has to do with spending restrictions.

If it was totally fixed, there's no way Verdy or Cerezo would have been allowed to go down.

Kashima won. Nagoya and Kawasaki got ACL spots. If Nagoya or Gamba Osaka win the Emperor's Cup, then Oita will get an ACL spot too.

Gamba will be in the ACL too, they won it this year.

Sapporo and Verdy got relegated. Jubilo will play Vegalta Sendai in the relegation playoff.
