To the people in Canada: Do you see expectation or excitement on the streets about this tournament?
I'm asking this because during the match Argentina-Czech Rep. between Niembro and Closs were giving a history class about the czech and doing fun of the canadians on the stadium because they didn't seem to understand anything about the game, yes they are hateful you see, they mentioned that the people from Argentina that went to do the coverage and even the players and the coaching stuff were surprised by the lack of enthusiasm about this tournament on the streets.

Benfica got Pelé and Joel from Salgueiros two (i think) seasons ago, wonder what happened to let Pelé go to Vitória, he looks Manuel Fernandes.

Coentrão is doing a hell of a game.

wow, Pelé did amazing today (Y)

this a great group of players, I hope this generation doesn't get wasted.

great game from Coentrao but I can see already he's gonna be an annoying player to watch.. the dive by the corner flag was stupid and unnecessary, especially after he'd already been booked

kind of a crap match overall though, hard to watch a game where one team defends so much, although New Zealand did show a lot of heart and dare I say it, looked better than Canada did last night.

Help?

The problem with the streets in Canada is that kids aren't there, they are in the malls or at home. I don't think that this tournament is for the middleage 3rd+ generation canadians, but among not so long ago immigrants and mostly young kids and teenagers that's a huge tournament. You just need to look at how fast the tickets have been selling to realize that this is the biggest tournament Canada ever hosted thus far. Of coarse we are no comparison to european countries but take it a step at a time and soccer will be very big in this country soon.

Portugal looks like the favourites to win this tournament so far, Pele looked great in midfield and Coentrao is so fast and skillful with that ball. He did seem to take a dive in that corner where he turned 2 defenders, but i think the yellow card he received in the box was actually a penalty. The defender never touched the ball and clearly caught Coentrao's leg. Funny on the replay you see the defender tripping Coentrao in slow motion and Craig Forrest says "No contact". Maybe i wasn't watching very well.

Craig Forrest made a similar comment in the first half too with the foul that led to the free-kick goal, during the reply he says the defender got "all ball!" and it shouldn't have been a foul. But during the slow motion you can clearly see the ball was gone when the defender brought the guy down.. I guess commentators don't like to admit when they're wrong.

Portugal are favourites? Sheeesh...this is only the first match.

I'm happy we won, but we made some mistakes in the last minutes that against top teams it would have been fatal...let's hope they won't come again, and next match is quite harder...

I remember when the U20 world cup was hosted in here in 2001, we are no european country yet a big footballing country and everybody talked about the matches, not only Argentina's matches but all the matches that were being played. Hope football in Canada gets a satisfactory evolution, it'd be good to have another country where football develops well to make things more interesting. Or at least that they get some grass.:p

Mexico and Gambia 0-0 right now, Gambia looks interesting, how many players remain from the last U17 world cup where they played, anyone knows?

I saw the Spain/Uruguay game live yesterday here in Vancouver. Pretty amazing game. Spain was down 2-0 and tied it up in injury time.
Does anyone here know anything about this Diego Capel guy? He looked very impressive.

Diego Capel is I belive a left wigner for Sevilla B team. I have not seen him TBH but hear good things about him. Maybe Sevillista or William or another Sevilla fan can say more about him.

Ha Canada were rubbish. It's funny to see them try to be a technical side but they don't have any flair to do anything else. Chile were pure class though. I love hearing how Canadian commentators defend Canada by talking about how the other team is diving, etc. It was funny today because I was watching the New Zealand game with my friend who's born in New Zealand and she was laughing when Forrest started calling the Kiwis New Zealanders.

Mexican u-20 team looks really good. Been a good week for Mexican football

Great display by Mexico. Giovanni scored a really nice goal, and everyone just began to up their play after that goal.

The first half was a lot more contested, great saves by Blanco kept us in. Then, in the second half Mexico began to just control the tempo and ate away at Gambia's defense. Definitely exciting to see a solid team, I'm hoping we can go far with this team.

Vamos Mexico! :rockman:

Nah i dont think so ,Portugal has some great players, and Mexico showed a poor defence today, we are lucky we have Dos Santos and made that awesome goal, Gambia was doing a great game before the goal, their inexperience was the key of their loss they had it all to get a tie at least im sure a bigger team would have done some damage. And their keeper sucks, specially in the 3rd goal what the hell was he doing??
