Hi, I'm playing as Northampton. I'm doing pretty well, so far played 8 games with 3 wins, 4 draws, and a loss (thats at half-time v Grimsby Town though). We have a pretty solid defence, only conceding 4 goals so far, but I'm having trouble putting the ball in the back of the net. Only 8 goals so far, most of them come from behind goals that I got with a substitute. I invested in a good striker towards the end of the transfer period but the board denied his work permit so he couldn't transfer over here. :nape:

Any ideas as to how I can increase my strikers goal rate?

(Formations, training schedules, etc.)

So...Northampton must be a low division club. Players with high shooting accuracy are needed. The other stats, for low divisions are pretty much secondary. Get some good coaches, because they make your whole day, and improve all your players.

What is your formation.?

I found out that a normal 4-4-2 in low divisions works really well and goals come normally. Try increasing the tempo and the width, and a more direct play, english style.

A single game sometimes isn't enough to prove that the tactic is doing right. Please keep on telling the next results...

I create many chances using a 4-1-2-1-2 with the AMC(and sometimes even the wingers) moving up to striker position. Though you do need someone like Cahill who scores 20+ goals a season beeing a midfielder, which might prove to be impossible on LL level.

I just beat mid-table Stockport 2-0. Andy Kirk bagged two for a dominating win.

Unfortunately we could only managed a 0-0 draw with Rochdale. A shame because we had all the possession, we just couldn't convert it into chances.

And that's why God created loans.

Loan in players from the top flight or Championship who can't break into their first team.

Northampton :D!

Basically the defence is soild so i wouldn't go investing in Centre Backs, Luke Chambers and Brett Johnson should improve quite a lot so hang on to them, Doig is rock solid at the back. In midfield David Rowson is the best Defensive Mid, with Galbraith and Low (hes a lazy **** but he can dribble pretty good) on the wings. Attacking Mid is a weak position so you may want to get some players on loan to fill in, i suggest Mads Timm from Man Utd, otherwise Martin Smith can play some killer through balls. Upfront play Andy Kirk and any of Mcgliesh/Gilligan/Gearing (Again you may want to bring in another striker on loan). Andy Kirk should definetly get over 25 goals, hes the key player.

If you think Northampton is tough you ought to try Berwick Rangers :(

Don't ask...

I would say as a general rule attack is more important than defense on lower league teams although it is always handy to have a decent goalkeeper. I always play with three strikers then normally two wingers, a DM and a flat back four. Sometimes I switch the DM for an attacking midfielder which also works.

Yes Kirk has got a lot of goals for me so far.

We are at the top of the league a little past mid-season. Rochdale are 7 points behind us.

I brought in a new striker Matty Fryatt (only 17 or 18) and he's doing great. He's starting to replace Mcgleish. The Kirk Fryatt partnership is working great, we are starting to score 2-3 goals a game. Fryatt picked up Young Player of the Month award for February.
