This is a tad off topic in regard to this forum .'but'. There are two excellent football games around the shelves that have been basically 'sleepers' and living in the shadow of the Fifa series, these two games are terific to play in regard to realistic game speed and ball\player physics and if found can now be purchased for a song, they were done by Silicon Dreams\Eidos, Uefa Champions league Season 1998\99 and Uefa Champions Season 1999\2000, the graphics are average, but the game play is very very good indeed, i post this mainly for the new guys who have just arrived on the Pc football scene and probably don't know what is available in regard to Pc football games, you can view screenshots if interested in having a look at some of the action from these two excellent games by visiting this site ... I have always been spreading the word about those games for the longest time, but everyone ignored me

I think a demo would attract more people if one were available.

i have this games already but they're too buggy!

the graphics are very veryy bad specially the player animations...also the menu systems and how u do ur tactics and pick ur team is frustrating...the gameplay is worse then fifa i think although its not scripted, because players look awful and the tackling and passing are just frustrating, u just press the button and ur player is sent off!!

when u r saving penalties just press the shood button and ur keeper will save i automatically!!!

in corners nobody defends u and players do overhead kicks and diving headers to rolling balls !!!

i have mastered the game though so its not that i didnt go deep, i had Michael Owen's WLS'99 befora and its just in need of a lot of changes...

it has only 2 nice things....u have the feel of the champions league with the commentators and the atmosphere.....and the shooting system is not bad although the ball curves a lot even when u turn down the curve from the options!!!!

no disrespect but ppl need to know everything

Thanks lads, Shez, when i first tried these games i didn't think much of them, i was like many more guys who only thought that the EA Fifa series was all there was out there.. the main problem that i noticed was that they were very slow to load due to only doing a minimal install, i fixed this by copying the contents of the cd onto the hardive after installing the games and then applying a no cd patch, now everything runs as smooth as silk from the hard drive,'no more streaming from the cd', i don't find the games to be buggy in any way at all, i have played them for hours on end without any problems, the control system is spot on once that you have memorised the button combo's .. what i like about them is the way that you can challenge for the ball from any sort of angle after you have moved your tackling\pressure player into a good position, i don't have any problems defending from corners, the one two short passes work a treat, you have the options of realistic or double aftertouch ball control, arcade or simulation modes, a realistic game speed, along with more intelligent player support, the replay options are excellent in regard to being able to select any player or official as the camera view, 'eye view too', 5 different optional zoom\distance modes in any camera views, there are heaps of stadiums in the game that you can choose from, the offside calls are spot on and are always rerun from the touchline view, the pitch and weather modes are very good too, these are football games that you have to work out and get used to before you really see what they have to offer, the way that i enjoy and play the game is to use the side view on full height and distance, this way you can see most of the pitch and where the players are moving, the graphics look better from this distance and the display is really tight .. SCTW, yes mate i have noticed that you are another player who is always searching for the perfect football game and have a very acute eye for features and realism in the football games and like many more of us who use this forum hate to accept anything less..and thanks again for your replies, it's always good to thrash out the pro's and cons of these games .. and just for reference here are my personel top 5 Pc football games ..

1:> Uefa Champions League Season 1999\2000
2:> Premier All Stars 2001
3:> Road to the World Cup
4:> Uefa Champions League Season 1998\1999
5:> Fifa 99 ..'Hardcase Football'

The premier football game at the moment looks like it is UEFA Challenge, but untill we see what the patch has corrected the final judgement will have to be reserved for a short while...Ned :)

i have noticed everything that you have mentioned believe me...im not the kind of player who plays the game 3 times then judge it, or comes and do all the talking based on what he hears!!!

i never said UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE is a bad game at all, maybe it is the best game on the pc at the moment, but that is simply because FIFA has failed miserably and not because this game is ISS...
ESPECIALLY WHEN THE PLAYER DOES THE OVERHED KICK AND THE BALL IS PASSED TO HIM ON THE GROUND :D

thats all

Sensible World of Soccer! Yes, those were the days...
Simple 2D graphics, an incredible amount of teams and a great career mode.

Smile, memories .. aye, the days of the Kick off series and Sensible Soccer are sadly fading away...?? have any of you players ever tried to use the Amiga Emulator to run these football games on the Pc, i was wondering if it was at all possible .. Shez, you are spot on in regard to the Winning Eleven Series, 'Football Supreme', and it's a crime that these havn't been ported over to the Pc and if they ever do convert them EA watch out .. Pino2000, from the 1999 Pinonet Site ?? ..Ned

Found em all including the kickstart v 3.1, plus a few roms .. Elite and Frontier are in the batch too 'Golden Oldies' .. but i am noticing that it is a tad 'sticky' when you try to get a game up and running .. Ned

I've got Sensible World of Soccer running smoothly on my WinUAE emulator. I can even save my careers! But it's a hassle to get it to work.

If anyone wants to know the correct settings, e-mail me at [email protected]
