+ Nintendo DS Lite +

Well, I finally broke down and picked one up. I wanted to wait for the black version but after playing around with one yesterday on a shopping trip, I had to get it.

My review:

I have to say, I'm absolutley loving it thus far, it really is an amazing little device that's so far ahead of previous Nintendo handhelds. I had only actually held the regular DS before which I always thought was too bulky and frankly, pretty ugly. The DS Lite however is very sleek, a nice size, and has surprisingly good sound and image quality. The other thing that impressed me is the actual feel of the DS, it doesn't feel cheap and plasticky at all, but has a solid high-quality feel...similar to how an iPod feels in your hand. As far as the digital side of things go, it seems like it has a lot more to offer than the old gameboys, the DS has very well done interface and set-up screens, not to mention the included Picto-Chat program (which is kinda neat actually). The great thing too is that the best of this device is still to come, the most anticipated titles have yet to be released (a Wi-Fi multiplayer Final Fantasy, Zelda, Wi-Fi Winning Eleven, Web Browser, etc...) and it's supposed to be highly interactive with the upcoming Wii. I've even read that the DS will work as a kind of touch screen remote for the Wii system.

Speaking of Wi-Fi, it was very easy to set up and I've been playing multiplayer Mario Kart pretty much since I got it. Animal Crossing I can see is going to be very addictive, I got my wi-fi set up for it but still haven't got any friend codes yet so I still haven't checked out the multiplayer aspects of it.

If anyone has one or is getting one, don't forget to post you friend code #'s here!

i got my DS lite about a month ago. bought Nintendog for my gf and New Super Mario Bros. i was trying to get Mario Kart but sadly it is out of stock :(

Brain Age (not sure it is call "Brain Age" in australia, thought it is name "Dr. Kabashiwa Brain Training"?) is such a nice game. you could easily spend few hours on it by solving the challenging sudoku :)

EDIT:
just found it on IGN. they are the same

Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day

Also known as:
-Train Your Brain
-Kahashima Ryuuta Kyouju no Nou o Kitaeru Otona no DS Training
-Touhoku Daigaku Mirai Kagakugijutsu Kyoudoukenkyuu Center: Nou wo Kitaeru Otona no DS Training
-Kahashima Ryuuta Kyouju no Nou wo Kitaeru Otona no DS Training for Adults (JPN)
-Prof. Kawashima's Brain Training (EU)

yeah, I got Brain Age just because it was on sale for really cheap, but it's actually pretty addictive too! The first time I did a few of the puzzles it was telling me I had the brain of a 70 year old, heh..

I am not impressed with images of Winning Eleven on DS, looks like Fifa 97:

yeah, the screenshots aren't very flattering, but that always seems to be the case when it comes to still images from handhelds. Everything always looks a bit more jagged than it actually does on the real screen, I'm sure that'll be the case here...

finally finished new super mario bros. even though still haven't unlock world 7 (:/) couldn't get the mini mario mushroom thou :(

Here's a vid I found online of the DS version of Winning Eleven. The graphics look fine and the gameplay looks to be really smooth. The only issue I noticed is that the pace of the game seems kinda slow, but that could just be the video itself. Then again, it's not ready for release until January 2007, so it's probably best to wait until some official vids are available before making any judgement...

Anyhow, here's a little preview (copy and paste into Media Player):

E3 06: Winning Eleven Pro Evolution Soccer 2007 Hands-On

We score some hands-on time with the recently announced Nintendo DS version of Konami's popular soccer game.

LOS ANGELES--One of our first ports of call when the doors of this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo opened this morning was Konami's booth in the South Hall. It was there that we had an opportunity to play the Nintendo DS version of Winning Eleven Pro Evolution Soccer 2007 for the first time, and although the game is clearly a ways from being finished, we were pleasantly surprised by just how much the game has in common with its home console counterparts.

All of the action in Winning Eleven Pro Evolution Soccer 2007 takes place on the DS's top screen, while the touch screen is used to display your team's current formation and to move your focus between aggressive play and defensive play on the fly. Other than that, the game controls and plays almost exactly like the home console versions, with the left and right shoulder buttons being used to feint/change player and sprint, respectively. The face buttons are all assigned to the usual functions, and we found that the directional pad performed its duties admirably.

Though we didn't get to check them out for ourselves on the show floor, Winning Eleven Pro Evolution Soccer 2007's wireless features have us pretty intrigued. According to Konami's handout on the game, the DS version will feature a gameplay mode in which winning matches will unlock new players that can then be added to your team or traded with friends.

Visually, Winning Eleven Pro Evolution Soccer 2007 on the Nintendo DS doesn't look nearly as polished as other games in the series at this point, but the players are well animated and the game certainly doesn't look bad. The demo version of the game was running a little slower than we'd like, with the ball sometimes appearing to hang in the air like a balloon, but if things are sped up in time for the game's launch Winning Eleven Pro Evolution Soccer 2007 could turn out very well indeed. We'll bring you more information on the game as soon as it becomes available.

I'm in the same boat as you.

I got a Black DS Lite and New Super Mario Bros for £110.

I've ordered Brain Age and Mario Kart on ebay (both new and half of theshop price).

I've been told to get

Metroid Prime Hunters
Advance Wars: Dual Strike
Castlevenia: Dawn of Sorrow

How good is Animal Crossing really?

Dude, I've been playin' my little brother's DS a lot lately..

Mario Kart's so fun on the DS.. especially battle mode. Very addicting.

I'll have to see how WE is.. might pick up a DS for myself. Though, I'm not too big on games these days. Just to kill some time..

Animal Crossing is surprisingly addictive.. it's sorta like the Sims, sorta like an RPG, almost like a life sim. I actually play it over anything else right now on the DS. It looks pretty "kiddie" and it's relatively simple to get into, but the actual depth of the gameplay is amazing...just about everything you do has some effect on how things unfold in the game.. The fact that the game progresses in real time and life goes on wether you play or not is pretty amazing too.

M3thod, that's the great thing about the DS (..and all Nintendo hand-helds), the games are almost always pick up and play, perfect for just wasting some time. The beauty of it too though, is that todays Nintendo portable games can also be complex and draw you in if that's what you're looking for..

I recently also got 'Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time' which seems pretty cool too, but to be honest I've only played it a couple times so far.... been to damn obsessed with Animal Crossing!

I saw some kid playing Animal Crossing on the demo console at Target and I thought it looked like a total kid's game... cute little characters and funny music. I do remember someone else telling me that it's really good though. I'll definitely check it out.

I've got 'Partners in Time' too, or my brother does... and I thought it was some crap game because it game bundled with the DS. I saw my brother playin' it and it looks like Final Fantasy meets Mario.. haha. Really different from all the other Mario games I'm used to.

One of my favourite games as a kid is making it's way to the Nintendo DS in the next few months. Talking about The New Zealand Story, man I remember dumping quarter after quarter into the arcade machines playing this... I think I'm gonna have to pick it up just for nostalgia sake. Some of you guys must remember this game, no?

The New Zealand Story

I know I'm probably the only DS fan-boy around here, but had to post this anyhow... just put in my order for Winning Eleven DS from play-asia.com, couldn't wait until next Feb or March for the US/Euro version to come out. I'll post a brief review after I get it and have played it for a bit. (I imagine the Japanese menu screens will take a bit of time to figure out)

At Virgin we are totally sold out of DS Lites and have like a 6 month waiting list, the demand is just amazing. And we can no longer get pink ones at all, if any of you have a pink one, sell it, it's worth it's weight in gold. When we were down to the last one and it got reserved over the phone, someone offered me £500 to let him have it.
