Memo to the person who made the "Bring back our game!" banner: I've got a feeling that its not coming back for at least five years. Thats right, I think this strike/lockout is gonna last five years, and as a result, the NHL will cease to exist after those five years are up.

5 year lockout?
NHL Cease to exist?

Crawl back into that cave you came out of with these stupid statements. Where are you getting these ideas from? Are you getting sport updates from FOX news or something?. I didn't know they gave out sports updates as well.

First of all, the players will never sit out 5 years. 5 years is the equivalent of 1/4 of a career(for those who play 20 years). Consider how many players don't even make it to 15 years and then think about what you just said.

Before this thing hits next September, the NHL will get an impasse and backup players will be hired. Eventually the NHL players will cross the line and slowly come back to the NHL.

My advice to the players, it's better to compromise now and lose a little early own , then to do nothing and lose everything they were fighting for in the end. The more they bitch and whine, the lower the salary average and the salary cap will go.

-------------------

NO TEAM is losing more money right now then the Leafs. I'll admit that I don't miss hockey that much, I'm usually too busy with univ to watch most games. If i get out to play shinny twice a week I get enough of a hockey fix to cope with the lockout.

No, I never watch FOX News, and I get my sports info from the computer that I'm sitting at right now, and through ESPNews. If the league decides to declare an impasse and employ replacement players, I'm not gonna watch. Who wants to watch nobodys that we've never heard of taking the places of Martin St. Louis, Ilya Kovalchuk, and Joe Thornton? I also see your STILL siding with the players and their agents. Those scumbags are the ones responsible for the mess that the league is in right now. And no, I'm not gonna retract my "This work stoppage is gonna last at least five years" comment, because this is what I believe in.

However, I'm willing to stump up $50 for a PPV fight to the death between Commissoner Gary Bettman and NHLPA head Ted Saskin. The survivor restarts the NHL, on HIS terms. Unfortunately, at the rate we're going, this may be the only way to settle it.

All the players in teh World Junior Championships should play in the NHL next year, I was watching the US-Russia game, and it was almost better to watch than the NHL games but I haven't seen an NHL game in a long time so I can't really compare.

The point of replacement players isn't to get fans watching hockey again, it's to collect revenue once again, although it won't ever rival the revenue when the real players play.

I never said i'm on the side of the players, in fact, if you read my post closely you'd realize I side more with the owners then the players. The system Bettman wants is perfect for the NHL but the league must be a little more reasonable in their demands. A 35% paycut to the players who sell the game like Joe Sakic or Iginla isn't a good message to send. No player should be making over $6 million anyway, they live like kings as it is. I recognize that the numbers and percentages thrown out are all posturing and can/will be negotiated lower.

BTW, Bob Goodenow is the head of the NHLPA, Saskin is the equivalent of Bill Daly for the league, the second in command.;)

For the record, I hate Bob Goodenow and Ted Saskin. I know they're doing their job but they don't have the best interests of the game in mind, they're trying to save themselves from being fired. When the owners get their way, they'll get pinkslipped anyway. I'm also sick of players like Trevor Linden thinking the cap is the end of the world. Linden is just kissing ass so that when he retires he can get a nice job in the NHLPA offices like Mike Gartner did.

There are players who I feel bad for, those are your Mike Commodore's or Pierre Dagenais' who would be lucky to have a 5 year career. Especially with Commodore, he finally "makes" it in the NHL and now it looks like he won't even play. Lockout's are career enders for many players.

OK, Saskin will now fight Daly on the undercard, with a Bettman v. Goodenow main event. ;)

About replacement players, if the NHL has to use them, then they're gonna have to find their way around Canadian labour laws, which, correct me if I'm wrong, prohibit the use of replacement "strike-breaker" employees in some provinces (eg. Ontario). As for "cost certainty", I am for a hard salary cap similar to the NFL, at around $40-45 million US per team.
