I went to that game...gutted about the result :nape:

1st half - formation was NOTHING like what MOTD claimed it was. Duff and Milner were basically playing off Martins, but Duff was ending up playing far too deep, Martins had no one to give the ball to when he did get it. Nothing was into his feet which is where he'd be dangerous, and to be fair Melburg had a good game.

We had no width, yet retained the ball well...but it made no difference cos we were 2-0 down at half time! 2nd half was far more balanced...looked like we went to a 4-4-2 and looked a lot more threatening with Duff actually sticking to the wing (right wing too...get N'Zog on the left as a full time fixture!!!). Had Martins not gone off injured, and Emre been subbed in order to avoid getting sent off I think we could have snatched a goal at least.

As soon as Martins went off, it was game over, we were never gonna score.

Babayaro and Carr were woeful.
Parker was good but turned on the spot too often killing any pace in an attack.
Moore and Bramble didn't really do anything wrong - in fact Bramble looked decent.
Emre while he was on looked passionate and determined.
Duff and Milner were rubbish in the 1st half, playing too centrally - GET ON THE WINGS!
Solano - had a freekick and didn't see him for the rest of the game!
Luque - rubbish
Martins - isolated, but looked exciting the few times he did get the ball - very springy leap by the way!

I think it's a good thing that Martins has picked up the number 9. Yes it might look a little weird, but it's the best way to put Shearer behind and maybe kill some of the importance that the number carries.

Martins wearing that number may help ease the pain of the now retired shearer, i only hope he wears it proud and try's to live up to what that number once meant to all of us...

The game on sunday was a dissapointment, truly ruined my day :nape: ... I fear it will be a long season, but will hold up hope

Youth Team
Magpies in shock Rossi swoop

Newcastle United have agreed a shock loan swoop for Manchester United's young striker Giuseppe Rossi.

The Italian youth international is highly-rated at Old Trafford and had been expected to make an impact on the United first team during the coming campaign after the sale of Ruud van Nistelrooy to Real Madrid.

Indeed, Ferguson refused to allow the American-born Rossi to move to West Bromwich Albion as part of the deal that saw Tomasz Kuszczak join The Red Devils.

However, Glenn Roeder's Magpies have now managed to convince Ferguson that Rossi's interests will be best served at St James' Park in a loan move until January.

"It was a big decision for us, especially as we don't have the choice of strikers," Ferguson told United's official website.

"But this is something that Giuseppe wanted, as he needs regular first-team football.

"When he returns, he will be a more experienced player who will be able to offer us much more."

Despite signing Obafemi Martins from Internazionale, Newcastle were still keen to reinforce their attack after seeing Alan Shearer retire and Michael Owen pick up a serious injury during this summer's World Cup.

The capture of Rossi will be seen as another coup for the club who signed Damien Duff from Chelsea over the summer, and the Italian forward, who has been prolific in Ferguson's reserve ranks, will look to serve notice of his great potential at St James' Park over the coming four months.

Is this for real? Rossi hasn't proven himself yet because of lack of first team opportunities, but this could still be a great catch for Newcastle...especially with Martin's injury

Rossi will do ok...he's an intelligent player with good feet and power in his shots. He'll do well for us IF we can learn to play the ball into feet the way proper teams do.

Sibieski - very average panic buy, but at least it gives us a little more depth in our tiny squad.

Bernard - I'm happy to have Ollie back! Should never have left, and knows it. He'll put every ounce of energy into every second he's wearing the black n white!

PS remember we've also signed Duff and Martins during this window, and got Given to sign an extention to his deal. Overall not a bad shop. I think we would have got Wayne Bridge had Arsenal and Chelsea sorted themselves out sooner. Bridge in January I can see as being top of the list.

What time is it at? They might show it over here, haven't seen a Premiership game in a while...

Btw you didn't add Oba Oba's and Rossi's transfers on the first post.
