Never mind Nantes, the kit reminds me of old West Brom away kits, quite ironic I mention the "Baggies" seeing as Real Sociedad's home kit is dark blue and white stripes. (H)

He could have done, and coincidentally yellow and green are the colours of the Welsh away kit. And you're right about West Brom, they started wearing the yellow and green striped away kit in the 70's, mid 70's to be exact.

It's the 4th kit because Real Sociedad, rather bizarrely, have a white away kit and a grey/black hooped third kit - so for the away match at Castellón (who wear black and white stripes), none of the three kits would have been distinguishable, so they brought out another. I suppose Real Sociedad could have done like they did in a 2007 pre-season fixture at Heracles Almelo, and worn training bibs over the top! (H)

I know I'm pushing this thread even though there's an 08/09 thread but this applies to the current season. Man City have revealed the kit they will be wearing in Sunday's derby at Old Trafford as a mark of respect for the 50th anniversary of the Munich disaster.

The kit has no branding, just the Man City badge and a black ribbon with text underneath marking the 50th anniversary, also the home shirt is plain sky blue, i.e. no white pinstripes like the usual home shirt. The keeper shirt looks like the usual yellow one but also without branding. Also just like Man U's 1958-style kit they'll be wearing for the derby, this kit will not be available for sale.

weird position for the printed ribbon and message -- i know the le coq sportif logo was thereabouts, but this seems even worse positioned ...

and if they're not selling it, what's the need for all this "presentation of kits" hullabaloo? don't it suffice that we'll see 'em on Sund'y when you wear 'em?

It's good PR for the club and the manufacturer. Basically they are saying "look how sensitive we are about showing respect to the Busby Babes and those that died at Munich - even though some of our fans are probably going to wreck the minutes silence on Sunday" (And City were themselves worried about that happening - they requested United have a minutes applause instead)

Even the fact the United kit will be special is driven by Nike trying to look like they are "In tune with the club's identity" and while it's appreciated (and it is) you would be naive if you didn't think it had crossed their minds.
