Ballard44’s FIFA 2004 UEFA CL and UEFA Cup update
June 14th, 2005
Updated using WinHex and DBEdit v3.2
IMPORTANT – Currently, this only works for the English, Spanish, Italian, French, German, Portuguese, and Dutch Leagues!!! Read below for the reasons in the ‘testing’ section

7 euro (Country).trm’s
euroCup.trm
euroEdit.trm
england.trm
Pick which League you’d like to play and pick the correct .trm file
To make this work you should start off by renaming euro (Country).trm to euro.trm. Copy and paste into the …data/cmn/fe folder.
If your team fails to make Europe, continue to use the same file
If your team makes the CL, also continue using the same file
If your team makes the UEFA Cup then rename the euroCup.trm to euro.trm and copy and paste in the correct location. Here is the tricky part… Because I’ve increased the size of the UEFA Cup tourney, it makes the CL tourney invalid in the euroCup.trm file.
So here’s an example of what needs to be done…
After your first season, you qualify for the CL. Keep the same .trm file that you already copy and pasted. Enjoy the updated CL in your 2nd year.
After the 2nd season, you failed to qualify for Europe. Keep the same file.
After the 3rd season you qualified for the Cup. Do whatever you want to do during the 8 week off-season. Once you get to your first match, SAVE your career!!! Should be on August 9th. Don’t play it, yet!!!
Quit FIFA 2004. Like I mentioned above, rename the euroCup.trm file, copy and paste appropriately.
Start FIFA 2004. Play and have fun in the Cup and league.
After the 4th season, you qualified for the CL. SAVE your career again BEFORE your first match. Quit FIFA, rename the correct euro (Country).trm, copy and paste.
Start FIFA and have fun.
So in general, you need to change the euro.trm file if you go from the CL to Cup or Cup to CL
If you don’t care for the CL or Cup changes, insert the euroEdit.trm file instead. This will keep the original CL and Cup setup, but the CL is altered so that it’s more realistic
About the changes…
UEFA Cup
I tried to make it more realistic w/…
A 40 team group stage w/ 5 teams per group
Teams will play each other just once (2 home and 2 away games)
Top 3 teams from each group will advance to next stage
Those 24 teams will meet the 8 3rd place teams from the CL Group stage for a total of 32
- the 8 ‘eliminated’ CL teams will consist of ‘Rest of World’ and other ‘top’ league teams from the game
You’ll then work your way down playing home/away matches against a single opponent
The ‘play-in’ was necessary to make this work…w/ out it the game kept crashing. It will always be Spartak vs. Besiktas. They way I’ve set this up it should be a semi-random draw. Meaning you shouldn’t have to play the same team from your group until the Final
UEFA Champions League

More teams being included which in turn means more Qualification Rounds
Q1 will consist of 2 ‘Rest of World (RoW)’ clubs. Again this was necessary to make it all work.
Also changed was the ‘draw’ format after group stage.
Example - Group A winner plays Group B runner-up and vice versa. No more Group winners playing each other
After that it will be a semi-random ‘draw’. Again, meaning you shouldn’t have to play the same team from your group until the Final!
I’ve also made it where you won’t have to play your own league in group stage unless a team from your league happens to qualify and the game randomly ‘draw’s them into your group.
Testing –
Like I mentioned above, currently, I’ve only made 7 CL files.
The reason being is that teams/leagues are given a hex number and if you play the EPL their 4 CL qualifiers are numbered 3, 4, 5, and 6 or (in hex - 03, 04, 05, 06).
I noticed when testing it while playing the Spanish League, that the order in which I had set up teams in the CL and UEFA Cup changed. After some expletives, I realized that when I tested any other league (other then the EPL) that the team/league hex number was changing.
I didn’t think it would be a big problem, but some times teams will ‘double up’. You might get two Lyons or two Liverpools, and that isn’t good.
Even worse, if you play the Swedish league, the game gives them only one CL spot. But I’ve given them 3 spots. The game then gets confused because of this and things get ugly J
This is why there needed to be a different file for each league and why I didn’t make more than 7 files. Luckily, the UEFA Cup seems to work for all the leagues.
If you’re interested in playing a league that I didn’t include, let me know and maybe I can find a solution!!!
Note - if you play the EPL, also use the England.trm file I included…it has a couple of changes like the Carling Cup now has a home/away aggregate semi-final like in real life
