Network questions

I have a question about networking. I live in a house with a bunch of guys and we are all able to play on our wireless network, however, we want to add other people to our network game that don't live in our house. However, i have no idea what settings to change, so I don't know how to add these people in our game. We need them to get in, so i need your help.

Thanks in advance

I'm not very well educated in all this kind of stuff, but my guess is that if you just give them your IP address it should allow them to play at the same time as you, as I don't think anything else has to change (although you'll need to be connected to the net obviously :P).

Unless you are using a wireless router with a built in firewall. I presume you do. In that case, you need to open up the ports CM uses for it's online play.
I don't know which they are either.

One option is to let the person outside the network host the game, as you can join him no problem, if he is'nt behind a router as well.

Create a game as u normally would, but before creating it, you need to go edit preferences and make sure the box named "run as server" is ticked! Then once the game's created hand out u're I.P. You can find that by going to game status.

Opening ports on your Windows XP firewall

1. Navigate to My network places
2. Right click your internet connection(for example, LAN- connection 1). Select Properties.
3. Click the 'advanced' tab, select settings.
4. Select the 'services' tab.
5. Click the 'add' button, in the lower left corner.
6. Enter a description of the program(CM), type your ip number, and enter 9094 in both the external and the internal port number boxes, make sure the TCP box is ticked.
7. Repeat 6, but now enter 9093 in the external and internal port number boxes, make sure the UDP box is ticked. Now click the 'ok' button.
8. Make sure both new created services(CM) are ticked in the 'services tab'. Now click ok.

Thanks

The router has its own IP. Browse there with your internet browser, and you'll be able to change the settings (if you know the password).

Make sure you have admin rights when trying to do stuff in XP.
