It's almost here!!! I realized it when just a few minutes ago I purchased tickets for the Cavs @ Bobcats game on November 4th :rockman:. This season the West is looking more loaded than ever and the East (other than a few teams) is looking as unpredictable as ever.

The NBA Europe Tour starts on Thursday so I thought it would be appropriate to open this. Forget waiting until after training camp to give your predictions. Let 'em roll now! here's mine:

EAST
1 - Miami Heat (there is nobody stronger than them in the East)
2 - Cleveland Cavaliers (LeBron will be even better this year)
3 - Chicago Bulls (Wallace should give them that muscle inside they have needed for the last two seasons)
4 - New Jersey Nets (only here because they play in the pathetic Atlantic Division)
5 - Detroit Pistons (will still be good but the Cavs and Bulls will surpass them this season)
6 - Orlando Magic (this team will surprise a lot of people this season)
7 - Washington Wizards (this would make for another Cavs vs. Wizards match-up in the playoffs, that would be nice....)
8 - Charlotte Bobcats (call me crazy but if we stay healthy I don't see why we won't get at least 40 wins this season which is enough to get you in the playoffs in the East most seasons)

WEST
1 - Phoenix Suns (remember them last season? ok now add Amare...)
2 - Dallas Mavericks (championship contenders yet again)
3 - San Antonio Spurs (they will be champions this year if their pattern continues)
4 - Denver Nuggets (see Nets)
5 - Houston Rockets (TMac and Yao MUST be healthy)
6 - Los Angeles Clippers (kept everyone from last season)
7 - Los Angeles Lakers (Kobe is good enough to get them in)
8 - New Orleans Hornets (two words: Chris Paul)

NBA CHAMPIONS
Phoenix Suns

You have the Pacers missing the playoffs? :| Interesting... and the Magic in 6th? Come on, they have a lot of upside but still they're very inexperienced... I am a huge fan of Howard however...

Oh and, I think they've restructured the stands system so the travesty that was the Mavs vs Spurs matchup in the first round doesn't happen again... I recall a statement saying that it was purely based on record now. So taking that into consideration...

East

1 - Miami Heat (All players intact from last season)
2 - Detroit Pistons (Even without Big Ben they still have a formidable team that know how to play for each other)
3 - Cleveland Cavaliers (Hughes and Z can't sink lower than they did last season, they both should be better this time around and LBJ is LBJ)
4 - Chicago Bulls (Wallace will help immensely in their interior defense and rebounding
5 - New Jersey Nets (Didn't do much in the offseason and Kidd isn't getting any younger)
6 - Indiana Pacers (This team will live or die by Tinsley's ability (or inability) to stay healthy)
7 - Washington Wizards (No significant improvement or regression)
8 - Milwaukee Bucks (Bogut is getting better and better and Redd is still in his prime, CV will also help a lot)

West

1 - Dallas Mavericks (Even deeper and talented than last season)
2 - San Antonio Spurs (I don't know why everyone is writing them off, they'll still have the best or second best record in the West)
3 - Phoenix Suns (Integrating Amare back will be more difficult than everyone thinks)
4 - LA Clippers (Similar situation to Miami, they have kept their core intact)
5 - Houston Rockets (This is only if Yao and T-Mac stay healthy)
6 - New Orleans Hornets (Paul is huge, David West is one of the most underrated players in the league and they just got Peja)
7 - Denver Nuggets (Melo is awesome and Camby should be healthier)
8 - LA Lakers (They scrape in ahead of Memphis because Gasol is gone for the first half of the season)

And say hello to one of the youngest and best frontcourts in the league (touch wood). (H)

No the standings won't be based solely on record just the first four spots will be, so the three division winners will be guaranteed a top four spot but those top four spots will be based on their records. As for the Pacers missing the playoffs, how many new players do they have this season? 11, 12? Yeah, there's no way they will integrate all of those guys in without any problems. I just don't see it happening for you guys this year.

Ah cool, so that was it... couldn't recall the exact methodology :(

It won't be as difficult as you make out though, our starting 5 is basically unchanged (Tinsley/Carlos*son/Granger/Harrington/O'Neal) especially seeing as how Harrington had been here from the start of his career except for the past two at Atlanta... but I agree, one of the Pacers' key challenges is to integrate the likes of Marquis Daniels and James White into the second unit.

Still can't get any worse than the past two seasons though, and even then both times we finished at least .500.

But as you said the East is really unpredictable, especially when it comes to those last two or three playoff places... Orlando and Charlotte could just as easily make it in as Milwaukee or Washington.

Agreed.

Year after year I would predict the Pacers as one of the league's elite yet year after year I saw them become just an average team (:/). I just think their shot has passed them by.

No love for the Bucks?

I think Mo Williams is definitely ready for primetime and Steve Blake is good for a backup point guard. I don't think I really need to go into detail about Villanueva, Redd, Bogut, and Simmons. We're pretty deep too. I mean, I don't like us over Miami or Cleveland, but I think we have a good shot this year at a top 4 seed in the terrible East.

I'll make predictions later tonight when I get back from work, but expect to see the Pistons take a huge fall.

I think trading away TJ Ford was a BIG mistake.

I'll join. I'll also probably lose interest fast, but it's a fantasy league so that's really to be expected.

Alright, I am not going to take into consideration conferences because frankly I don't care and can't tell you what conference most of the teams are in now that they went to this ridiculous 3 conference crap.

WEST

1. San Antonio Spurs (dominant last regular season, now they aren't any worse)
2. Phoenix Suns (growing on me. I don't like them this much, but they're a good reg. season team)
3. Dallas Mavericks (I think they're the best, but not with the best record)
4. Memphis Grizzlies
5. LA Lakers (I like Kobe)
6. LA Clippers
7. Houston (honestly, they should probably be at #4 with a healthy T-Mac and dominant Yao)
8. Denver Nuggets (as much as I want to put Utah or NO/OKC here, I can't write off Melo)

Best player in the West: Kobe Bryant. Again

EAST

1. Miami Heat (No other team in the east is in their league)
2. Cleveland Cavaliers (I don't really even like them, but the East is soooo weak)
3. New Jersey Nets (hope Kidd gives one more good year)
4. Chicago Bulls
5. Milwaukee Bucks
6. Washington Wizards
7. Boston Celtics
8. Detroit Pistons

Best player in the East: LeBron of course!

League MVP: LeBron James
Rookie of the Year: Adam Morrison (the situation is just too good and the media already LOVES him)
Best Rookie in terms of talent and promise: Rudy Gay, kind of like last year's.....
Breakout Player: Marvin Williams (Atlanta)

East Champs: Miami Heat
West Champs: Dallas Mavericks

Very creative!

NBA Champ if the refs decide to give Wade 30 foul shots per game: Miami Heat
NBA Champ if Dick Bavetta and Bennett Salvatore aren't involved in sabatoging every game: Dallas Mavericks

I think we'll make the playoffs this season, probably anywhere from the 6th to 8th seed but I'm not too optomistic as to how we'll start the season. Kobe's coming of the knee surgery and apparently hasn't done ANY running meaning his conditioning is going to be pretty poor. Same goes for Lamar Odom who's lost 15 pounds during the offseason after the death of his 6 month old son, he's said he's nowhere near being close to where he has to be conditioning wise. Those are our top 2 guys on this team and if there not ready then I don't know what's going to happen.

I like the addition of Radmanovic for the simple fact that we need his outside shot, too bad he can't defend for shit though. Also, the less we see of Smush Parker out on the court, the better. I'd definitely prefer starting Farmar at PG and let him distribute the ball around like he did at UCLA, he's also a better defender than Smush so that's another plus for him.

I do not think that the NBA Champions should be called the "World Champions". But I still do believe that the NBA Champions are unquestionably the best team in the world.

Agree 100%

I still think calling them world champions is silly when results like these happen.

ShiftyPowers, funny thing dick bavetta is that everyone down here HATES the guy. I mean, everyone inclunding some media members though he was doing a bad job and not calling fouls or give them to the other team.

btw, i do think that Orlando will be better a playoff team and Chicago will go no higher than a 4th seed.

Now the Clippers got their ass kicked 94-75 by CSKA Moscow. I don't know if it softens the pain for the Clippers (if they have any :p) that CSKA are Euroleague Champions... hehe. I'm happy European basketball is improving. (Y)
