Haha, it's true. I use a scouting tool to decide on my player purchases and the tactic is downloaded. So therefore every screenshot and every match would require a drink.

My plan for FM14 is to use my own tactics and don't use any scouting tool (cheat free). I'm weaning myself off. Pre 2013 I would use genie scout and view potential and hidden attributes. In 13 I use genie scout to search visible attributes in a more efficient way, so in 14 I hope to not do any of this.

ps This thread is making a comeback with the continuation of the 5 continent challenge... next up: Africa.

I had an idea to try something new and fun.

I wanted to create a tactic which was extremely attacking where every player position was the most offensive it could be.

I'm testing it with Brazil and came up with this:

At first I tried it with Standard mentality and Balanced style but noticed I was giving up a lot of the possession and chances. When I switched it to Fluid and Attacking I noticed it performed much better. So now by default I leave it as that, when I go a goal up or face more difficult opposition I intend to select Counter as the strategy. With Attacking the team is very vulnerable so when the other team is down I need to change it to Counter so that the team doesn't leave so many holes. The team still plays very nicely with the Counter option.

The one match I watched against Belgium displayed some of the most entertaining football I've seen on FM. One thing that surprised me was how realistic it looked, the decisions made were spot on and it very much looked like a Brazil NT match... very attacking and back and forth.

I'm thinking of starting a game with a club and getting the right players for it. I usually stay away from Inter because their players don't really mesh with my style but with this tactic it looks much more hopeful so I might finally have another save game with them.

Some standouts in these positions that I don't normally buy seem to be (using genie scout Player Ratings based on the player role attribute): Ziegler for sweeper keeper, Srna for right back, Baines is rated #1 left full back, Pirlo, Mikel as DMs, David Silva, Gotze, Ozil as MCs, Van Persie as CF.

That's awesome. I don't know if being an IF is necessarily more attacking than a Winger, but with Neymar and Ronaldinho it's the best option. How does the midfield work with on DLP and two AP though?

They always try to distribute the ball quickly to an attacking player. With the attacking mentality they surprisingly do a good job closing down players (because that increases that setting) and pressuring them. They do allow alot of players to penetrate though, but that makes it more fun to watch and is good for the counter attack.

I'm not really set on thinking conventional roles work in a certain way. If you figure something effective out it can perform better than what you "think" the roles should be. e.g. It's possible for the above triangle midfield to work.

I see. Yeah it must increase the pressuring to the whole field. Basically you need pretty good players, which you obviously have. Keep an eye out for cool plays and or goals and upload them!

It works fine. In 2012 I played something like that only the ST was poacher and sometimes it was 4231. DLPs stay back by default.

Ugh, I wish it could be done faster. I'm too lazy often.

First update in a long time with my 5 continents challenge...

So I conquered Asia with Suwon and was able to finally land a job in South Africa. Sundowns were in 14th out of 16th place two months into the season so they fired their manager and I got the job.

South Africa has a clear ranking status in terms of teams. Orlando Pirates have the most talent, then it's Keizer Chiefs. After that comes a small group which includes my team, Sundowns, Supersport, FS Stars . Then it's a group bellow that, and then the teams fighting to not relegate. It's hard because most good players are in the first two teams, then from teams that are around my reputation level it's fairly hard to snatch players from them so I have slim picking from teams underneath me. Some teams fall in that sweet spot where they have decent talent but are also prone to sell their talent to a team in my position. That led to me getting three players from Maritzburg Utd in the winter transfer period.

I am surprised with the financial level of the clubs. My board gave me adequate money to buy players. Since South Africans are relatively cheap, if you get a few million you can do alot with that money.

My team didn't have proper players at every position so I was a little weak until the winter transfer window. I was able to add a few foreigners and South African players from smaller clubs to fortify my team. I've secured transfers for next season so when that comes I expect to challenge for the title. I haven't played continental football yet so I'll have to see first hand how tough the Tunisian and Egyptian teams are.

Onto results...

Once my team got clicking they did very well and slowly started rising up the table. They finished 2nd which was my goal so that I can play in the CAF Champions League (only 1st and 2nd place get to). I had to win the large majority of games to be able to get 2nd so it was quite the achievement.

Here is my team. I have a star player, Langerman, who plays for the South African national team and is by far my most skilled player. At first I wasn't able to renew his expiring contract but later in the season I was able to, which was a big move.

These are my results with Egypt:
(The Japan result was extra bitter because all I needed to do was beat the US in the final to win the tournament.)

Since I probably can't get a better NT job for the world cup coming up I'll stay with Egypt for that tournament and try my luck. After that I'll resign and get another NT job. I really want an Asian team so I can win the Asian Continental competition but I haven't seen any pop up.

Did you buy Essome are was he already there?

Signed him on a free. He last played for Al-Ahly. He was at Mallorca B at the start of the game, 13 years ago.

A lot. I can let you know when I load up the game again.

My board has told me they're not necessarily important to them which is great.

So there's a "Knockout Cup" which has the 16 teams from the premier division. Then a FA Cup with teams all across the country. Then there is a "Super Eight" cup which is like a one game per round playoff with the top 8 teams from the previous year. And for some weird reason their super cup is called "Be The Coach Challenge".
