My FIFA 2005 demo semi-review

Pros

- Better animation

- The game isnt bogged down by sluggish animation

- Less scripted gameplay than other FIFA games

- Improved graphics. good character models (not rounded look anymore)

- Improved AI - like defenders covering open areas when another defender wanders off, back passing to find new routes of attack, sliding to keep balls in play etc.

- More width in the game - the AI now uses the wings to attack rather than just concentrating on trying to breakthrough the center

- Improved Player Responsiveness

- Better ball physics

- The skill button is actually useful now - in 2004 it was almost impossible to beat a defender by trying to use skills against him but now its easier but the defence can still stop you

- First Touch is great It really opens up the gameplay and makes for some great goals

- Passing is improved

- The Atmosphere is great. Crowd cheering a great tackle, booing a foul etc. Player reactions during throw-is, fouls, goals etc.

- Improved goalkeeping (probably the best goalkeeping ever seen in a footbal game)

Cons

- lack of passion- unlike PES series, scoring a goal in FIFA doesnt give you a sense of achievement. it just lacks emotion

- Unrealistic shooting - that has become a problem in the last 3 FIFA games but although it has been slightly improved, the shots still move like rockets

- The Ball speed is way to fast - seems more like an arcade game that a realistic footy sim

- Although the graphics are good. the kits look very blurred but this might change in the full game

- There is still heavy scripting

- Set-piece system is soo rubbish and can cause huge problems. for example, i got tackled near the corner flag but the free-kick system does not allow to me cross the ball but i have to take shot from the corner flag. also, the set-pieces shows how heavily the game is scripted

- The long passes look like sh*t

- the nets are still like metal. small feature i know but adds to the realism

- the AI doesnt press for the ball (give you to much time on the ball

- Off the Ball still rubbish

Final Verdict

This a major improvement from FIFA 2k4. it seems that EA are actually feeling the competition frm the PES series. The game could become very playable especially multiplayer wise. Is the game better than PES 3? No Is this worth downloading? Yes

IMO, FIFA 2005 is the best ARCADE/REALISTIC footy game. its not a totally realistic sim

hahahhaha, thanks for confirming that you are anti-fifa .... if anything scoring a goal in Fifa 2005 is alot more fun and satisfying then ANY PES ever was, when I score a goal in PES im "OK ... thats it ?" .... when I score in Fifa 2005 its an amazing feeling, so please man ... stop making yourself look like a Carlos*ass.

- Unrealistic shooting - that has become a problem in the last 3 FIFA games but although it has been slightly improved, the shots still move like rockets - Hell of alot better then PES 3/4 shooting, which is as far from realistic as possible.

- The Ball speed is way to fast - seems more like an arcade game that a realistic footy sim - lol the ball in PES feels like its in space.

- Although the graphics are good. the kits look very blurred but this might change in the full game - get a better PC, FIfa 2005 graphics are the best graphics that a football game ever saw

- There is still heavy scripting - NONE, if anything PES 3 is scripted up the arse.

- Set-piece system is soo rubbish and can cause huge problems. for example, i got tackled near the corner flag but the free-kick system does not allow to me cross the ball but i have to take shot from the corner flag. also, the set-pieces shows how heavily the game is scripted - learn how to play

- The long passes look like sh*t - again learn how to play fan boy

- the nets are still like metal. small feature i know but adds to the realism - nets are decent, I rather have these nets then a ****ty ass cartoon like PES 3

- the AI doesnt press for the ball (give you to much time on the ball - hell yea they do, but again you havent play the game

- Off the Ball still rubbish - get a brain

All in all, you guys are just haters, and its been proved beyong the shadow of a doubt.

Far from that, I hated every single fifa since 1999, and I also hated PES/WE since niether of those titles were any close to real football, fifa kept bull****ing everyone every year .... but this year they delivered a superior demo, maybe they can tweak few things and finally keep their word, cant wait for this release.
Think what you want, I dont care, I dont even know why I bother argue with some of you.

Mike69 was only wrong about the passion when scorin _ any game can give you that

- the AI doesnt press for the ball (give you to much time on the ball _ no thats realistic if you press for it the attacked will make u look dat fool

- Off the Ball still rubbish _ you either just dun like it or you ain got the hang of it

other than that a good review

just my opinion on the game.

firstly, to me the game lacked passion in the demo and this could easily be because of the difficulty it is set at and probably because its only one half so you cant really experience the high and lows of the game.

Also, the bit about them not pressing IMO is bad because although defenders should press all the time, they dont just sit back when the opponent has the ball. In FIFA 2k5, you are giving way too much time on the ball most of the time and that shouldnt happen especially in a game with two top class teams.

btw, Thierry Henry, shut up. I've been buying both FIFA and PES series and unlike you im not some kind of fanboy. i bash both of them when they do something wrong and praise them for what they get right. If i was some PES fanboy my only opinion would be that the game sucked and shouldnt be played but if you actually read what i posted i say it was very playable and is worth the download. get you facts straight kid

pro evo and fifa game arguments isnt bout which is good its about human passion. if i was a pro evo fan all my life(which im not by the way) i would obviously go for pro evo even if fifa is the better game and the same for fifa just like the way u support a football team if uve supported for example arsenal ur whole life and they lose matches and get relegated u would still support them watever position they are.

So stop argueing and play the game u support!!!

hahaha, its really fuuny how u guys try to argue pes and fifa? i played both series even though i liked fifa much2 more!! anyway, both companes had tried their best to make the most realistic games for soccer. why blame them for those crapiness they produce every year? for me. fifa is best at graphics and pes is best at the realistic gameplay. enough said.

Nothin to add on Mike's impression. Exactly my thoughts.
Although passing and dribbling is better and gameplay is less scripted, the shots are still enourmously powefull an always choose to fly in one of the 8 spots in the goalmouth.
I'm curious, is there any way to modify the shooting pace and power aswell as change the pace of the whole game.
Maybe some files to tinker with?

I haven not played the demo as do not have PC but thanks for this mate. i love Winning Eleven and wanna love FIFA but EA always let me down.

what you have said about FIFA being and arcade/simualtion game is very true. i was telling people on this forum after 2004 was released that EA were never gonna make a full simulation football game. its not there style!! i honestly think we will never see it. i pretty gutted that the shots still move like rockets, i really thought EA were gonna fix this. Also big shame about the nets. EA have no excuse for this..

i've never played pes, because it's so hard to get here, but i do think fifa 2005 is a big step forward from 2004.
