MY CM Theory.

John_Arne_Riise

Senior Squad
Sorry, i just have a theory on something. Last season in my Ajax game i finished a dismal 7th and almost getting the sack, late on in the season over the last 8 games or so i persisted with the one tactic, but still failed to lift towards the top.

Then, i had 48 players in my squad. In the off season, i sold a lot of my BEST players, for 10mil+ and what not, and released a lot of dead wood in the reserves and got the squad back to about 32.

Early in the new season im dominating, still using the same tactic, and even tho ive sold a lot of my best players i am playing a lot better than the previous season.

Now this may sound a little radical, but would the size of your squad have something to do with your success? Because ive never had more than 40 players in my squad let alone 48 when i struggled majorly.

So if anyone would care to put my thoery to rest and let me know how many players you have in your squad and what not. And if you can recall being a little over-zealous in the transfer market halted that large winning streak.

I just got wondering that the CM data (or whatever you call it (although uses many distinct features to determine your success, (tactics, players etc...))) used your squad size as a means of success also. :crazyboy: Crazy i am, but let me know what you think.

I usually keep around 24 players or so in the first team and reserves total. I don't like having to many players since some won't get playing time and could cause disruption later on. I currently have 31 in my Anderlecht game, but 6 are in the reserves and probably won't ever see playing time in the first team. I've won the Belgian League every year and I am in 2006, as well as the Belgian Cup 3 times, the Super Cup every year, and the Euro Super Cup after I won the UEFA Cup. I think it depends a lot on the type of players you have also (attitude etc.) that will give you the number of players that you can have. A good mix of veterans and young players seems to work well for me, so I generally follow that.

intresting theory. I suppose it could be true, that many players may cause far too much rivalry.

I only ever have 20 players in my first team, and i stick to this rigidly. So i cant comment.

Senior Squad
I personally don't think it's a squad numbers thing John Arne. More a 'time of the season' thing. As for squad numbers I usually have a first team squad of about 25. To my way of thinking that is enough players to legislate for injuries and fatigue while also keeping costs down. As Plymouth I only get about 22,000 people at a home game so any more players and I get seriously in debt from wages. Also, too many players means some are not going to get games for a while and will start to bitch

As far as the transfer market thing, I have found that buying a lot of players and once can have a negative effect, at least for a while, as the palyers have not played together before. Buying arseholes doesn't help either. I bought a midfielder named Marek Szmid and while he played really well he also turned the club into something resembling the Gazaa Strip.
