Lotsa problems with FIFA2002 that should be corrected:
1. A challenge on the keeper should not always be a red card. If i make a last ditch effort to keep the ball away from the keeper and my slide tackle just nicks the keeper, Im left with one less player on the pitch
2. What happened to that button you could press that would foul the nearest player with a push or a violent tackle, etc?
3. Goalkeepers should be able to be booked or sent off. And they shouldn't be able to get the ball every time they dive for it. They should miss it once in a while and catching a player, therefore warranting a penalty.
4. You should be able to control the amount of curve put into a free kick, goal kick, corner kick.
5. Its great to see that if you push the power bar to the max that it will miss the net. But there is one problem with this. If you push the power bar to max(on a shot) it will go flying miles wide of the net. Yet if you push the power bar to just before the max it will go right on target. Fix this! And also if you push the power bar to the max at centre, it will still go way wide of the mark. Dont think that its possible to get tha ball 20-30 metres over the net from centre.
6. There should also be a button you can press to use your hands. Sometimes the referee will catch you, sometimes not.
7. Linesmen should sometimes make erreneous offside calls.
8. When you get a booking or a red card, you should see the referee taking notes in his book.
9. When there is a substitution, the fourth official should indicate the substitution on that mini clock thingee.(this should also apply to stoppage time). This could be done in a cutscene where time is stopped(kinda like in NHL2002 with their big hit and big shot cameras).
10. Indoor matches!

This is a little farfetched, seeing as EA dont seem to put any effort into the creation of their football games, but I think they should include the qualifying again and this time have all the teams and the real path with all teams(should also include the teams that didnt enter(Martinique, Guadeloupe, French Guyana, Greenland, Western Sahara, Guinea, Burundi, Niger, North Korea, Afghanistan, Bhutan, and Myanmar). With this, International selection should be brought back. Each team should have 40-50 players from which selections can be made(why did EA get rid of this in the first place?). And this is even more farfetched: FIFA WC 2002 should concentrate solely on national teams and EA should make an add-on to include club teams. I know this will never happen but oh well.
12. Something little, but names and correct font of the numbers on the back of the jersey! In NHL 2002, the numbers and letters are included in the fsh file, whereas in FIFA 2002, the numbers are a seperate fsh file.
13. More weather conditions! What happened to hot, sleet, and snow? And the conditions should be relative to the time and place of the match. Its impossible to play a friendly match in Canada in January and have hot temperature. And the players, ball, and pitch should react to the weather conditions accordingly. In rain, the pitch should be slippery, muddy and waterlogged, the players accuracy should be off, and the ball should deteriorate after a while. In hot, the players should fatigue more easily. And the weather conditions should be able to change during the match. Sometimes yes it does rain the entire match. But sometimes at the opening whistle its pouring buckets outside, but at full time, the sun is shining brightly.
14. Take out the 45 minute option for length of half. I dont plan on playing an actual 90 minute match and i dont think too many other gamers are wither. Besides, the more skilled gamers will be leading by 40-50 goals at halftime.
15. Better AI. The fact that i can beat Italy with Guam on World Class disgusts me. On world class, even the most skilled gamers should have an excrutiatingly tough time beating Italy with Guam. And the fact that Luxembourg wins Group 1 of European qualifying also disgusts me.
16. National Anthems. Full versions this time for both teams. Simply put: longer cutscenes at the beginning.
17. I liked the mini-cutscenes they showed when a player missed the net, missed a penalty, or whatever. If im not mistaken, this was on FIFA 99.
18. Some more talented players (eg: Zinedine Zidane, David Beckham, or Luis Figo) should be able to test the keeper from well outside the box rather than have the ball roll into the arms of the keeper.
19. Bring back the training and penalty shootout modes!
20. And finally, better rewards. You should be able to access not only classic world cup finals, but the entire tourney from, say 1934 or 1966. And please make it harder. To unlock something, you should have to do it in World Class or at least professional. Cruising to a World Cup on amateur with the Faroe Islands and basically beating the entire game isnt very satisfying.
So thats it. The one thing that bothers me about EA is that they care more for other sports. They have come out with simply excellent games in NHL 2002 and MADDEN 2002. Why they cannot produce a decent football game beats the hell outta me.
