Oh please.

Expert reviewers review games in magazines, not amateur websites by footie gamers who cant stand to actually play against consistently competitve AI.

Gamesmaster and Computer + Video Games, the top two multi-format mags around, gave it 96% and 9/10 ratings respectively. FIFA 2003 got 76% and 8/10 - hmmm I wonder what should be drawn from that eh?

In my opinion, FIFA 2003 is a lot better than 76%. It is a great game, but with its unacceptable flaws I agree it shouldnt be in the 90% bracket. If Konami can create a 'master league', which is infact a Premier League, and other real English Premier divisions, EA are in trouble. I dont even mind fake team names - just so long as their like Mancester United, say - not feckin' Aragon.

The license issue is the only major problem with PES - the gameplay for FIFA. I know which is more important ATM.

Good Points:
More Stadiums, edit facility

Bad Points:
Everthing else

General Comments:
Firstly...the game play. I think different rather than improved. They have sorted out some of the old bugs but surprisingly they've introduced a whole load of new ones. In some instances you still overrun and stand still and perhaps most annoyingly the players simply stop runnning or change man unexpectedly. Scoring is harder but more formulaic, already I found at least three places in and around the box that if you shoot from it will go in ...everytime. There is less invention, far less opportunity for flowing moves and crossing is too ineffective.
Tackling has been made virtually impossible, sure if you stand in front of the man there is a good chance you'll win the ball but press slide tackle and you are asking for trouble.(foul almost everytime) Press block tackle and your man will stop still while your opponent runs off in the opposite direction.???

Secondly...options. Rather than improve or change the options menus, they've just made more of them, still poor looking graphics and music. In fact the schedule information is far worse than the old version.

Finally and this is the worst of all, in Pro Evo 1 some teams were given stupid names (no doubt due to licensing) like Arsenal being called London or Juventus being called Piemonte. Well they've added a load of new teams on this one and guess what....they've all got stupid names. So Aston Villa are bizarrely called Dublin, Parma are called Marche and Liverpool are called...wait for it Eurosport????? In itself this is not so bad as Konomi have added a much greater ability to edit the game(the only good thing in this version) so you can change team names to what they should be. But the new in game commentry (average at best) keeps calling the teams by their stupid names. It drives you mad.
Also as with the old game alot of players have similar names that you can change, like Facu and Larcos. This is no big deal but the dutch players are called names like Oranges 012 and so on and to add insult to injury it's out of date. Example, Marco Di Vio who moved from Parma to Juventus in the summer is still at Parma and so on. That's just poor.

In summary then, Pro Evo 2 is a huge, huge let down. Especially as we were all really looking forward to this new version and as the last game, with all it's faults, was brilliant we imagined that Konomi would simply improve. Alas after 2 days hard playing I have to say it's a step backwards. It feels unfinished and rushed, not tested properly and apart from the edit facility and the additional stadiums it isn't a patch on game one. I hate to say it boys but I'm going back to FIFA, yes it's that bad.

Good Points:
None really. Maybe the graphics or the Master league.

Bad Points:
EVERYTHING! I hate it!

General Comments:
ISS pro evolution 2 from Konami (for the Sony Playstation 2) has got to be one of the worst footy games ever. I also tried This is Football 2003 and that's a lot better. The passing of the game is awful and the graphics are appalling. I have to say that this game is one not to buy. Definitely TRASH not Flash.

Erm, have you actually played the game, when you win the Konami Cup with a club you get the commentry names for the club teams. eg Parma - instead of Marche it is Parma!! Its so hard i know but you should be able to do it! For gods sake, how can anyone like FIFA, in the ranks of football games its down there with the ranks of Actua Soccer and Olymic Soccer, its just the same every year almost but with an update with the teams like transfers, kits etc etc!

When i bought PES2 it was a huge dissapointment. Crapy gameplay, huge amounts of unrealism, and i took ages renaming players and teems. There are many more bad points!

FIFA 2003 has better gameplay and is enjoyable to play.

So Fifa 2003 has beaten PES2 this time.
Lets hope konami kik ea's ass next autumn untill then PES2 SUKS!

I regret saying that because i'm really enjoying PES2 now

Here's my two cents:

I owned PES and played ISS alot - every year Fifa released one of their so called games I played it with disgust.

Then Fifa2003 came out. And here is what I think:

Gameplay has vastly improved and those who thinks its totally crap is either ignorant , blindly biased or just a moron. I will be the first to admit EA have not perfected this and PES and to a degree ISS gameplay is better. But if PES is 9/10 Fifa2003 is 7/10 which isn't bad in my eyes.

Add to this EA's better commentary, better graphics, official licences and you have quite a package on your hands.

AND because I own the PC version I can edit Fifa to my hearts content and play online with people all over the world.

Now that 2 points on gameplay PES had on Fifa doesn't seem so great.

Conclusion: As a game PES is still ahead of Fifa...but for the full package and a full digital football experience personally Fifa has surpassed PES.

Now I hope people don't flame me and get the wrong end of the stick and tryin to make my post seem like i judgeing a game based on features. I'm not saying that...Fifa2002 had all these features but its gameplay was so weak that they were meaningless...with Fifa2003 you had a decent footie game plus everything i mentioned.
