He could have been useful today to provide backup for CM instead of Januzaj. He went to Fiorentina on loan with an option to sign but they sent him back. He wears #28 now.

It's unbelievably infuriating to watch Valencia on the ball. How can you be a professional footballer and never use your left foot?

I'm not exactly sure where Di Maria will play, should he come. Sort of reminds me of overpaying for Mata and not knowing how to use him last year. Certainly the only position for him in this system would be RWB where perhaps cheaper and more suitable options might have made more sense. Unless we change the system. He was excellent in the 4-3-3 that Real played last year. Though that would again raise the problem of fitting Rooney, RVP and Mata into one team.

All in all, we're in a complete fucking mess due to our horrendous transfer dealings in the last 3 windows with very little time to do anything about it for this season.

Van Gaal said he has 5 CF and 4 AMC but 0 wingers so he will play on his position, the wing.

In the current system that would be wing-back, though I'm still skeptical as to whether it makes sense to buy him to put him there.

The current system was an emergency system for the Dutch at the World Cup. It's also mostly emergency system for United. When given right players, he'd switch to his prefered 433 when needed. However, Di Maria alone is not enough for 433. We'd need a CB, CM and possibly an extra winger. However, that would fuck eveything up. How do you fit Mata, Herrera, Rooney, Di Maria and RVP in the line up, without benching or playing anyone out of their position? Atleast it seems that Kagawa is on his way out.

Herrera-Carrick double pivot, Mata-Di Maria wings and Rooney-RVP.

Yes, looks like the best formation. Only 1 player is out of position there. In 532, 2 players are playing in an unfamiliar role. i.e. the wing backs. It would suit Shaw and Rafael but LvG does not seem to rate Rafael.

39 passes back or to the side, 20 forward
shots 0/0
crosses 0/4
take-ons 0/1

We need a winger who is not a moron.
