I didn't watch the game, so I'm not really sure if he was at fault, but really... that's what you get when you have Doni as your keeper......

Congrats to the Mancs anyway, looks like you've had a fine game....

Historic match from United... now.. let's see what happens next round.

That said, it was sort of one of those nights for Roma.

On other nights those long shots by Carrick go wide, those crosses deflect off defenders and things come out differently (like maybe only 3-1 instead of 7 (H))

All in all, amazing match, but I don't judge Roma by this game, nor ManU for that matter. 7-1 is amazing, and this is one of the greatest single match performances in the CL, but there are still 4 more fixtures you have to win.

Good luck in the semis.

I'm sorry but the people insulting Roma as a team and the players and italian football in general? Why is this necessary?

You look just as bad as Mika doing this type of crap (Pefan).

Be happy you won, this was truly a one in a million game for both Manu and Roma but dont be an asshole about it.

Carrick's two goals were simply quality, and I think you can say that for most of the goals as well.

They were indeed beautiful shots, and a product of him being really "on-form" today. I wasn't trying to take anything away from him, as they were both real beauties.

Nonetheless, on another day, he probably sends them just over or just wide, as he has done many times. Today was just one of those days where everyone was spot on with their shooting, which is why it's an historical match. Not something you see very often. Hell, even Evra's shot was picture perfect, and that's definitely not something you see every day.

Come on guys, no need to be that harsh with Roma, insulting the club and whatever just because of... Mika.

Roma is a good team, plays great football, it's probably the only Italian team that doesn't play with the defensive style, and what happened today means nothing more but a really bad day, that happens like one time in 10 years, and even though United is superior to Roma you're not that superior.

You had a dream game, Roma had a nightmare, but they're still a very good team (Y)

Of coarse, it was just a horrible day for them. But its really the Roma players and staff that sparked all this trash talking. The staff was saying how it was all United's fault for them getting their ass kicked by the riot police, when Roma fans only had stewards watching them.

And we all know what the players have been saying before the two games. Not one bad word for any of United players, while Panucci called Ronaldo nothing but a diver and said that Roma's defense is miles better, technical and much stronger than United's. Mancini said that he has more skill than Ronaldo and again Ronaldo is just a diver. Totti claimed that Roma is too strong for United and that United is just all about Ronaldo, who again likes to go down easily.

Well, the players did their talking with their feet and I bet Roma will NEVER again think of their opponents like that.

Plus mika and a few Roma/Chelsea fans on here that were trash talking about us, like we are ****. Karma bites back.

Carrick's first goal, would you marry me? (I chose to propose to the 1st goal because it was of more importance situation-wise, even though the second goal may be more of a sexy mama)

Doni was definitely at fault. Half of the goals he was caught off position, way ahead from where he should be, which means, inside of goal. He's still the same average goalkeeper he was here in Brazil, fact.

It was a terrible display by him, not to take anything from the way we played but we won't play against such an inept keeper again, he really was at fault in all the goals except maybe Carricks second, not to say they wouldn't have been scored but a decent Keeper would have a least got a hand or a foot on most of those shots.

Fans clash with police at Man Utd

Police contained the trouble at Old Trafford
The flare-up was soon contained by Greater Manchester Police
Police and football fans were involved in a series of scuffles before the Champions League match between Manchester United and Roma on Tuesday.

Greater Manchester Police officers made 21 arrests after confrontations around Old Trafford prior to kick-off.

The worst incident involved several dozen mainly Roma fans but it was soon brought under control by officers with batons and police horses and dogs.

Manchester United won the match 7-1 to reach the Champions League semi-finals.

Hundreds of supporters were caught up in ugly scenes outside Old Trafford before the game.

Eyewitnesses said a firework was fired by Italian fans at Manchester United supporters as bottles were hurled between rival groups.

Multiple arrests

Police said 14 of those arrested were English and seven were Italian.

Eight Manchester United fans, including one juvenile, were arrested on suspicion of committing public order offences, one was detained for allegedly possessing a bladed article, two were held on suspicion of causing affray, one for suspected criminal damage and one was arrested for a suspected breach of the peace.

Two Italian supporters were held on suspicion of public order offences, another for allegedly possessing an offensive weapon, and a fourth for allegedly possessing an offensive weapon and committing a public order offence.

Three others were arrested on suspicion of shoplifting, believed to be from the Manchester United Megastore.

Roma supporters began trailing out of the ground at about 2215 BST and were led without incident to a facing car park where a fleet of coaches will take them back to the airport.

There were no reports of any injuries.

Greater Manchester Police have used proportionate force in a potentially difficult situation and have handled it well
Richard Caborn, Minister for Sport

BBC production staff witnessed Manchester United fans throwing cans and glass bottles while police with dogs tried to separate the two sets of supporters.

Police dog units and mounted officers became involved with a series of scuffles with supporters close to the club shop on Sir Matt Busby Way at about 1750 BST.

Police sources told the BBC that the "isolated" trouble - which involved fans of both teams - was contained within five minutes.

A statement released by Greater Manchester Police said: "Officers patrolling at Old Trafford ahead of the Manchester United versus Roma match have been required to deal with a number of small and isolated incidents.

"The incidents are being dealt with as they happen and are being resolved quickly.

"Some arrests were made in order to maintain the peace at the ground."

Highest alert

BBC radio reporter James Alexander said extra security was very much in evidence outside the stadium.

"There were lots of security personnel and extra police cars and vans around the stadium," he said.

"It was classified as a Category C match which is the highest alert there is for a match at Old Trafford. It is on a par with a home match against Liverpool."

Minister for Sport Richard Caborn said: "It's unfortunate that there have been some scuffles outside Old Trafford.

"This was always going to be a highly charged game following the incident last week. Greater Manchester Police have used proportionate force in a potentially difficult situation and have handled it well."

The visiting fans were in the second tier of the East Stand and there were no reports of trouble inside the stadium.

Roma's managing director Rosella Sensi earlier insisted their fans would behave impeccably.

Uefa is to investigate the trouble from the first leg, which could lead to disciplinary action for both United and Roma.

Roma is very entertaining they just got out-played and out-hustled today by a more determined Manchester United side. My opinion of Roma hasn't changed at all after this match, my opinion of United has, for the better.

well chivu was all over the place because Panucci was utter CRAP and the left side was wide open so Chivu had to cover half of the pitch.

IMO Doni and Panucci were to blame for last night's performance.
