Come on dude!

Haha although they defended with 10 men, it was an intense match, Sevilla battled for every ball like it was the CL final. Also It was an epic performance from Varas, I thought we should have won but I applaud that performance and tenacity.

Also Basel reminded me of Bielsa's Athletic, one of the most INTENSE teams I have ever seen, the stadium was a riot as well. Absolutely no shame in losing to a team like that in a stadium with that atmosphere, they are lions.

I really hope we avoid Basel next round!!!:-(:-(

Basel looked like a top 6 EPL team. I was afraid we're gonna **** up, but didn't expect Basel to play with such confidence.

Young - Giggs - Jones - Park - Nani, was it? With a midfield of 4 wingers and a defender, we have to be happy that we actually had a chance in the end.

This is what you'll get - a thin squad + lack of tranfer funds + injury crisis.

To quote a guy from another forum... he nailed it on the head.

Because we lost so much of that at the end of last season with the mass exodus of so much dressing room experience. VDS, Scholes, JOS, Brown etc, thats a heck of a load of 'mental strength. Im not saying they should have stayed, each of them leaving was for the right reasons, but you just cant 'buy' experience. the much underrated JOS had played in excess of 60 CL games FFS!

How many times do Man United glory hunters need it drilled into them? We have NO divine right to win anything, you cant win every year (ask Real Madrid!), great teams last a max 4 year cycle (our last one ended last season) and we are a side in transition AND YET we also have a squad packed full of very promising youth, have a solid set of mature players and are just a signing or two short of the creation of another fearsome team.

I really don't mind going out ... we clearly did not deserve to go through and our new emerging side does not currently possess the know how how to play consistently as a team together, let alone mount a serious campaign in this years CL. Given I never had any expectation of a serious challange in this years CL, I dont feel too bad.

The CL is to serious a competition for Smalling to be learning about co-ordination and understanding alongside Vidic (which led to the first Basle goal). In some ways, its a good thing this has happened .... and hopefully a kind draw in the Europa cup can replace the Carling Cup loss as a way for the younger players to play in serious high intensity games, make their mistakes and learn from them.

SAF and the squad now need to get this quickly out of their system, focus on what is now a huge FA cup 3rd round draw, keep ticking over with nicking narrow wins in the league until we can find some rhythm (which WILL COME with time) and sort out our horrendous injury problems.

We the fans need to encourage our young emerging team and for once just enjoy seeing them develop as a unit. Is that too much to ask a 'fan' to do or will this board be subjected to constant whinging and bollox?

Yeah 5 defenders, 4 wingers and a striker lol, not good.

Some News/Facts On Your Team.

1.SAF confirms Vidic has medial knee ligament damage. That could mean up to four months out. :((

2.Arsenal Goal Kepper Wojciech Szczesny on De gea : I don't agree with De Gea criticism. He's potentially one of the best GK in the world but needs time to get his confidence at ManUtd.You have to perform at your best every game when you play for big clubs and when De Gea is at his best he is UNREAL! Give him some time

3.Man Utd have failed to qualify from their Champions League group for the third time, after 1994-95 and 2005-06 and it all happened on 7th december.

So we might as well start thinking about the future...

Goalkeeper situation is pretty good I think. If De Gea will get more expirence he'll become one of the best keepers in the world soon and if Lindegaard is happy with the number 2 spot, we'll have a quality back-up. I wouldn't even been too worried if we didn't get De Gea as Lindegaard has a bit Schmeichel mentality going on, lol.

I think we're pretty well covered in the centre-backs, if only Rio would get his act together too. We need a back-up for Evra though...and for Neville. I really liked the twins but now it seems they share one brain.

Cleverley, Morrison and Pogba might turn out to be regulars, but obviously, we need to get active on the market to get **** covered. As much as I want to see Anderson, Fletcher and Carrick doing the job...I can't. Not too worried about wingers - Valencia, Nani and Young, when fit and on form would tear apart every defence in the world. Also we have Joshua King, playing for Mönchengladbach, anyone know how's he doing?

I would rather have 4, reliable forwards (Yorke, Cole, Sheringham, Solskjaer) rather than 6, with most of them mediocre. Rooney is the only certain starter, with Hernandez and Welbeck being so non-consistent it's not even funny and Berba who will probably leave soon with Owen. Diouf is utter ****e.

And then there's Fergie...I wonder how long we'll he be around? And is he able to remain at its best til the end? Who can ever replace him?

When will the Glazers die?

2005 was when we lost Keane. We had Ronaldo and Rooney getting blooded into the team, and then we got Anderson and Nani couple of seasons later. That was the last Transition period.

I actually think Lindegaard has put on the better performances so far. Both great players.

I think outside of Jones and smalling we got some big injury issues at the back. Rio and Vidic keep getting injured and so do the young twins. The twins are great when they get a string of games though. Theres a issue there though.

Aye, no problems on the wings... but the center. Carrick has been excellent recently, but outside of him we got an issue. Cleverly has looked good but we defo need another player of experience in there. Cleverly also seems to get injured a lot?

Aye, and rooney, really annoys me sometime... all too often he has these peroid of lack of form. Thats why he will never be compared with players like messi or Ronaldo. When there off form there still **** hot.

Hernandez is top class, I think SAF has been giving him orders to stay deep, should let him lose a little like he did in the first season.

Berba and owen need to go so we can buy another class striker. Macheda needs to be loaned out... he's so young. Welbeck needs to prove to us what hes all about asap. The signs have looked good.

SAF will be good no matter his age... the question is how long before he retires.

I think the only potion we don't have problems is the wings, not good.

I already had the mindset of the person quoted by adedawson..... I don't feel that bad about us getting knocked out of the CL. The knock out against Benfica in 2005 felt much worse. We currently have one of the youngest squads (even compared with Arsenal)..... the first couple of months showed the potential of the squad, but as expected from a young squad their performances will come with a lot of ups and downs. We are not strong enough at the moment to be a force in Europe. As some of you said, we are in transition... out with the old and in with the new, it's a long process, but knowing SAF, he'll be building another great side before retiring.....

I'm only worried about the injuries of some of the boys... Rafael and Fabio need to cool down whenever they are on the pitch, how is it possible that they get injured during every game they play? Vida was unlucky and I wish him all the best during his recovery. Cleverley has not been the same since he was kicked out of the game by Davies....together with Ando they seem to feed of each others' abillities. SAF needs to address these injuries, cause it seems to happen every season.....

This dissapointment will only make the boys stronger and we'll come back with a bang......!

We should use Berbatov and rooney in front more..? Berbatov is our top scorer last season.I really don know why SAF don't let him play very often anymore =( And The Da Silva Twins..Arghhhh Injury Prones

Did you seriously complain about a lack of transfer funds? Buying guys at inflated prices before they are ready for the spotlight is not a lack of funds.

I agree we do have some funds but with the amount of money we got from the Ronaldo sale, we should be able to buy players worth 50 millions. We are among the richest clubs as well but we are definitely spending far less over the years compared to City, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Liverpool etc. We might have spent 50 millions this season but we sold 3 players (worth maybe 10 millions combined) and we hardly spent prior to this season. The last big move was Berbatov in 2008.

we really don't have a lot of luck with injury prone players... I wonder if there was some truth in what Hargreaves said about our medical team?

Saha
Hargreaves,
Da silva twins
vidc & rio seem to be getting injured a hell of a lot. When was the last time they had a decent string of games together.
Owen
Cleverly
Anderson
Park
Neville

Admittedly owen was injury prone before, Hargreaves had issues. I guess you could argue nev, vidic and rio is just age.

Whatever the reason that's a team with a lot of injuries.

*edit*

Great... vidic out for the rest of the season.

ShiftyPowers

Vidic isn't age, the guy is younger than me.

And how many 50m+ transfers do you think happen in the world, Nady? Even assuming you mean Euros and not Pounds (which I'm not sure about) there have only been 8 ever (5 if you mean GBP). 4 have been by Real Madrid, and in the case of 3 others the club has regretted it immediately (Zlatan, Sheva, Torres). The other one was Buffon.

IMO spending over 30m Euros on a player isn't value for the money and instead of spending 50m GBP on one player who flops like Chelsea, you could drop 20m Euros on 3 different players. Once you get to around 25-30m you're dealing with a major international and there's not much need to go up to 50+++ because the ability won't be that much higher and the money is going to be essentially wasted. It also baffles me that United spend so much money on home grown players when A) they have the best stocked academy in England brimming with homegrown talent ready to break through (Cleverly, Welbeck, Pogba, Rafael, Fabio) and B) Foreign players are cheaper.

And concerning the lack of funds, we've lost 20million pounds just by failing to qualify from a seemingly easy group, no offence to Basel, Benfica and Galati.
