EDIT: They just played the replay again. Welbeck was just onside.

Carrick scores his 1st EPL goal in 70 games after dribbling for 40 yards. Who would believe that? (H). What a goal.

Haha sorry for hijacking your thread with a Lee Stewart interlude... looks like Arsenal have failed to do the business for you against City today... ten mins to go and 1-0 down. Real shame because two bad results in a row could have put a dent in City's confidence.

Also dont get too excited about Carrick scoring, it's only QPR! He always does this, scores a goal against a mediocre team and has a good game then uses that as an excuse for about five terrible performances in a row....

The encouraging thing is though, that he has actually been playing better in the last few matches.
There's more life in the centre now. We used to depend on the centre scoring, intercepting and generally seeing a lot of the ball. That's been missing.
The last two were against Wolves and QPR, which means we won't be getting that much time and room against other opponents. However, there were promising signs.

Well today there just emerged a strong rumour from the telegraph, which is a very reputable source normally, that a deal for Gaitan is almost agreed. He may well be a wonderful addition to your midfield, but definitely would not come til summer cos Benfica need him for this season, and would probably mean not signing another midfielder in Jan. So Carrick just needs to play well and hold the fort for you until he arrives, if the rumour is true and the deal goes through.

I don't understand the Carrick bashing. Hes been brilliant for us for a while now, his passing a vision has been excellent. The goal is the icing on the cake but Carrick doesn't need to score goals.

No he hasnt. He has been good for you for maybe a small part of this season. In the past he has been dreadful, and failed time and time to perform in the big games, the most recent example being the Champions League final. He has done more harm than good in his time at your team.

Help?

Berba sits on the bench for 2 months, comes on for 10 min, scores a backheel no big deal, just another day in the life of a hustla

you gotta be kidding me, carricks had a 90% pass completion rate this season. Need someone with opta access, so you can gauge him off.

Pass completion rate is not a reliable to measure someone's performance or consistency. Some players make 5-10 yard passes whereas others make 40 yard passes more regularly. Even O'Shea's pass completion rate could be 90% if he's only making short passes.

Carrick is a good passer, yes. But what else does he have? Decent defensively. Makes some good tackles occasionally but not strong enough for that tenacious holding role. Creativity not the best too. Only once in a blue moon he would make defense tearing through passes (like Scholes would do several times in a game), although he is doing that a bit more regularly these days because he's on form. He doesn't possess speed or stamina and offers nothing up front. Makes few assists and scores 1 goal in 70 games. He's a good passer but far from an all round midfielder.

I still think he is good and I like him but truth is, he's simply not good enough to be starter at club like United. He would be a great backup though. Just compare the central midfielders of teams with the same stature as United. Carrick is nowhere near.

I was quite relaxed regarding the squad situation with the injuries up until now. We have versatile players and good depth.
This is getting a little ridiculous now, though.
Jones maybe out for 6 weeks and Young sidelined for 2-3.

Losing Young and Jones might have its good side too. Even with a fully fit squad, we'd need someone for our midfield - in situation where noones's fit, it might make Fergie want spend money in january after all. As we have over a month to get someone it wouldn't be a panic-buy either (someone in the sight anyway, i hope).

I'd start waiting for a new season already and accept that we'll get nothing this year but as long City is above us, I can't, lol.
