It show the lack of depth in our squad when we have key players missing. We had a lot of possession, but we lacked penetration, delivery and finishing in the final third, same story as last season, we really miss ronaldo in this match. :(

Fortune and Howard fcuk-up cost us at least a draw. Forlan is utter useless, give the ball away every time.
I thought Giggs had a shocker, poor crossing, could have done better with his header chance.

I felt in the summer that the most important signing we needed to make had to be a creative midfielder, we have not signed anyyone to fit this mould - as a result, today I think that lack of creativity really showed, all that possesion, yet we could conjure up no goals.

how bad can fortune and forlan really get?

Smith was desperating for the ball but he hardly touched it

We need a decent off-bench striker, a new Ole

KEANO IS GOD

Fortunes crosses were too deep.

I think he should have only returned for a game against a weaker side.

Why didnt Phil start? injured?

Anyone (Ben?) recorded the game highlights. I wasn't able to watch it as a mate of mine got back from South Africa and I had to pick him up and all that.

We need more quality players because our squad (not team. Squad) is simply nothing compared to our two main title rivals..

Well it,s gone some hours since the game and my bad temper has left the building!
have seen the game twice now and i must say it werent so bad!
actually we played much better than CFC.But still i think SAF did some wrong call's with the team:
He shoud played o'shea as leftback putting Phil in midfield(he was on the bench, wasn't him?)
he shoud have played Bellion in the second half, think he might have streched the CFC defense with his phase,so it would be easy'er to come in the box!
I usally dont want to blame single persons when the team "fail" but the action by Fortune and Forlan where not EPL standard.
I dont now if it's just me but i think we shoud have got a draw, that would have been a fair result, but done is done!

BTW Keane was great as usually!

After the Chelsea game I was impressed with the way some of our players played, and concerned by a few others.

O'Shea really fitted into the DMF role. Maybe he's the long term replacement for Keane? He seemed far more comfortable there than he did against Bucharest and he appered more comfortable there than he has in any other role. He didn't really put a foot wrong and when you compare any 1 game for all the players that have played that role in the absense of Keane O'Shea's performance yesterday was the best imo.

Djemba, that's just not the sort of performance he needed. He improved as the game progressed but it was too little too late as far as that game was concerned. He took too long on the ball, his passing was often poor and his tackling was not up to standard neither. He needs to play better than that.

Fortune, what was that?! He ran under the ball to give Chelsea the run for their goal when he should have easily kept posession and maintained the United attack. We had plenty of good posession but whenever it was Fortune's turn to do anything he invariably failed to deliver. He must have had 10-15 chances to make a decent cross and none of them were even half-decent. He has just come back from another long-term injury but he wasn't lacking in terms of fitness just in terms of delivery.

Miller gave a solid display. He seems to have fitted in and while improvement can be made you know he will improve, particular the more he plays more with the team. Quite impressive for only his 1 'proper' game in a United shirt following a groin injury.

Forlan's got to go. Sometimes you need to put someone on just to get the position on the pitch and that's the case with Forlan at the moment. I don't think we'll see much more of him once our strikers are back. His first touch was terrible, his shooting worse. It's disappointing because he's a likeable character, but someone else could be getting the chance which Forlan just hasn't taken in 2.5 years.

Everyone else I thought put in a very good display against Chelsea. Considering the players that are out it was an even more impressive performance, and I must say that it looks as if we have good squad depth, but you just can't accommodate for 9 players being out simultaneously in any way other than the way Ferguson is dealing with it.

Whenever a team loses despite playing better than the opposition it's said that a draw would've been a fair result because while they didn't get the result they got the performance. Imo, a United win would have been a fair result (but then it would be ;) ) because when you look at the whole game Chelsea were never really in it. They lacked the final ball as much as United, but they also lacked a lot more all over the pitch. Their defending was a case of everyone bar 2 back Liverpool under Houllier 2 years ago style. Their goal was the result of a couple of mistakes and even then Gudjonssen didn't shoot, the ball just sort of fumbled over the line.

All I will say though is that we should have learned how to break down teams that play that style by now. 75% of English teams that we have played against over the last 2 seasons have adopted that style.

However, they got the goal and therefore they got the result. That's what counts.

The only thing I can say about O'Shea is that he shouldn't be playing central defense. He probabaly has the defensive skills to survive there, but he's also a solid threat from the outside.

Anyone who has the balls to try and nutmeg Luis Figo in their rookie season (and succede) shouldn't be moved into central defense where the footwork is not as imporant.

Perhaps shifting him to midfield will be good for him.

i thought djemba had a relatively gd game and he is a tough player...

i m not ashamed of the loss cuz luckwasnt on our side. the performance was above my expectations. just lacked that quality in the final third.... but we controlled the game and kept several star players quiet.

KEano!..what can i say... !!class!!

Don't you think Keane and O'shea should of switched? John didnt have his best game and I find it strange that he's in center midfield instead of Keano?
