I can't be bothered to provide proof, but I can state almost for a fact that since Glazers took over, United Net Transfers were positive (meaning more sales then purchases). So not only is the Ronaldo money not there, we HAVE to spend more to be able to afford somebody good.

You mean negative for United. More sales than buys becomes -ve.

SAF is doing what he always does. He rarely buys big name players (unless they are worthy). Since the eighties he has always invested in young players and nurtured them into great players. The money is there to spend, but people seem to forget the fact that we have spent around 20 mln this time around for bringing in Smalling, Diouf and Hernandez, people seem to forget that considering all the bad spells we have had this season with injuries, unlucky calls etc....we ended just a minor point behind Chelsea, so we are not in a bad position as some of you are stating.... we have never been like Real or Barca whom spend loads of money on big name players....

This is what he himself said:

"They have been great owners," he said. "They have supported me in every way I have asked them. Any time we have wanted a player, they have provided the money. What people forget is that we have spent £20 million on young players this season, including Chris Smalling, Mame Biram Diouf and Javier Hernandez. We have always seen our future as based on young players developing at the club. "But because we are signing young players, not big showpiece signings, they think we are not moving. People do not recognise how we see our future."

David Villa to FCB for 34 million, done deal. Unbelievable. Hope you're happy Ferguson.

You have to take the players will into account. David Villa had the chance to come to england last year with 1 or 2 clubs and refused them instead waiting to see if Barca or Real would make an offer. Lucky for him Barca came back this year and Valencia were more humble but it was clear he did not want to leave spain.

LOL Valencia must feel like clunkers though,as Madrid Offered 45mil on deadline day last summer and they rejected it, instead asking for 57mil LOL

I can see Torres goin back to Spain with Barca too if they can get rid of Ibra(which is what barca are secretly trying to do,but only to clubs outside spain) so if anything we could try to get Ibra but only if its a 30mil deal.

anyone worth buying from Portsmouth. Bargain hunting to be done.

With Fergie's help Kevin could become world class,he always impresses me when I watch him. I think Harry redknapp said if his attitude was better he would be still at tottenham. I believe Ferguson could work wonders for attittude players like Balotelli,Ibra, and Kevin.

Of course I became more of a fan when he did this:

Thats very true as well but I disagree that the whole Ronaldo money is there. Usually we get 20 millions every year to spend on transfers don't we? So in 2 seasons we should have 40 millions. Including the Ronaldo money, we should have 120 millions to spend. So far we spent 40 millions already on 5 players (Diouf, Hernandez, Valencia, Obertan, Smalling). Suppose we spend 20 millions on one more player now, we're still left with 60 millions. Thats going to Glazers pockets. I really hope the investments we are putting in these young players pay off. The future looks bright... I feel Tosic will start playing as well, after having an awesome run out in FC Koln.

I wish he'd play for Germany :(

Yeah sucks so much when we see so many stars not making it because of injury. :( I hate Ballack but the WC will be different without him for Germany.

Haha. Maybe. In fact could go either way lol

A strange thought, Ballack's contract is up this summer. Could he be worth getting on a free? I think he could do a job for us for a couple of seasons while the youngsters are blooded.

KP Boateng I agree with, similar to the situations of Chris Eagles and Richardson with us - great talent, but poor work ethic.

Ballack? Are you forgetting we are having Hargreaves back? Having Hargreaves back is like a new signing on a free :) I know he won't be back to his best again... But I'm pretty sure he'd do better than Ballack. Ballack hasn't really cut it in the EPL. Furthermore, I'm sure he'd want a big salary.

EDIT: Btw I'm starting to agree when Ferguson said that our squad is good enough. The only problem is backup! With Smalling in, I think our defence is complete. Our wings also are great and well covered. You have Nani and Valencia as starters with Park, Tosic, Giggs as backup. In attack and in central midfield we are in trouble I think. But if Carrick gets back in form, we should do fine in central Midfield. One of the reasons why we lacked that creativity in midfield this season is his poor form. He used to provide that creativity from deep. I really hope he picks up next season. Furthermore, we are getting Hargreaves back!

I think it would be enough if we get 1 striker. As Ferguson said, he'll bring one more player. He said "we deserve a good player". I have the feeling that this one player will be a good experienced one. Dzeko or Suarez or Gourcuff maybe?

Actually rumour has it that he's willing to take a massive pay cut to extend his contract with us. But yeah, you guys got Hargreaves back. Question is, how long will he last next season before getting injured again? Same goes for the other Owen as well.

Yeah thats a worry. He's had problems with tendons and these are very hard to heal completely... When healed, the tendon will usually have 80% strength of the original strength at max. I hope he doesn't damage his knees again. Yeah same for Michael Owen. He wasn't there when we needed him most :(

Ballack? Helll NO! hes reaching the tail-end of his career. Hes not the same player anymore. Hes one heck of a c*nt.

As for our sqaud, i hope fergie gets a Attacking midfielder and a striker. We need to add some quality to our attack. We seemed toothless attacking wise in more occasions than one last season.

Apart from that, you'd be happy then? :innocent_smile_1:

I thought he was more attack oriented than Hargro - I know he's going to add much needed steel to our midfield (provided he stays fit)

I'm hoping Anderson gets played in his proper position and hits his Porto form next season too.

Help?

That's contradictory.

There is just a different feeling about this summer, then previous summers. Whenever we had clear problems with the squad, Ferguson would always go out and spend. Stam Yorke and Blomquist in 1998, Veron and RvN in 2001, Ferdinand in 2002, Rooney in 2004, Carrick in 2006, Nani, Hargreaves, Anderson in 2007, Berbatov in 2008. But this time there is a clear problem that is acknowledged by Ferguson himself and yet he still insists on keeping the squad the way it is. Giggs and Scholes will turn into a liability any week now

Yeah he said "This time the market is very difficult" or something like that... But with the bond issue I would expect we would have money to spend? I think our first 11 is class, we only need backup players. We are starting to look like Liverpool now... You have Rooney out and you're screwed. A bit like Gerrard and Torres being injured.

I am not too confident about this coming season. I'd be happy if we won the FA Cup, but I don't see us winning the league due to the lack of depth and quality. If our starting 11 stayed fit and in form, we would be definite contenders but its impossible to have a complete team for 9 months. I am hoping that the new youngsters than Ferguson is bringing will pay off. Although I think they have been brought here for the future. As Ferguson said, "we're looking at 2-3 seasons ahead when we recruit players".

So, we lost Ronaldo, Tevez, Foster with Owen and Valencia as replacements. We'll be losing Neville, Scholes and Giggs soon. I'm guessing Tosic and Rafael have been brought up to replace Giggs and Neville. As for Scholes... God knows. Gibson maybe? :/
