aye good game. Macheda and welbeck are a little worrying... I don't think either of them have really looked like scoring in the last two games. They do well moving the ball around and some fancy moves here and there, but when it gets close to goal... Perhaps I'm being over critical there young, finish will come as will confidence.

Berba didn't do much either, but he hasn't played for a while. I was surprised how deep I kept on seeing him, he held the ball up a lot. He was silky as usual though. He did good really, but more for the team then getting up there to score goals.

Carlos Tevez: Former Manchester United team mate Rooney is better than Messi
/ World
02/12/2009

In an interview with the Daily Mirror, Manchester City star Carlos Tevez said that former team mate Wayne Rooney is better than newly crowned European Footballer of the Year Lionel Messi.

Tevez said: “I’ve had the honour of playing with some great players.

“At United, I had Cristiano in my team and obviously I have Messi in the national team.

“At Boca Juniors I had striker Martin Palermo for a team-mate – he was very impressive. He was the one who put two goals past Real Madrid in Japan.

“But the one I like the most is Rooney. He has everything. He’s very complete.

“Plus we share the same humble origins. Although the humbleness he experienced growing up in Liverpool was obviously a bit more bearable than Fuerte Apache in Argentina, where I grew up.”

Messi yesterday walked away with the European Footballer of the Year award, the Ballon D'or, winning more than double the votes of second placed Cristiano Ronaldo. Barcelona pair Xavi and Andres Iniesta finished third and fourth while England star Rooney was nominated for the award but received only a small number of votes.

Interesting. I'm sure these quote are old though.

I think Berbs got the free role yesterday, Welbeck was the man holding up the ball for the others. As for Macheda and Welbeck, they are VERY young, 17 and 18 if I am correct, it is to soon to judge them, they'll come good....

EDIT: talking about Macheda, he has extended his contract with 4 years!

More evidence last night that Aaron Lennon would be a great purchase for us. He terrifies me when he plays agains us. Great result for the kids against Spurs' best XI though. Tomas looks in great form between the sticks.

Honestly other than his speed he has nothing. He can run but he can't cross. I rate Valencia better than him... Valencia's speed is comparable to Lennon and in addition to that, he can cross and defend as well.

You must be thinking of the other midget, Theo Walcott. Lennon has become a fantastic player. He can cross, pass, and he's basically learned to control his speed and deliver a good final ball, as well as added scoring to his bag of tricks. The only question is whether he would cut it at a top-club.

Like Nady I am also more of a Valencia fan. He's strong, tough as nails, fast, can cross, score goals and has a very good mentality

United have confirmed Adem Laljic won't be coming - they've decided not to sign him afterall.

And it's not for financial reasons either.

A bit weird that we have cancelled the deal. At the start SAF took a picture with Ljaijic and Tosic and a few weeks ago he mentioned that he couldn't wait to get to work with him.

Well the media are saying that Gabby Obertan's performances have shown Sir Alex that Laljic wouldn't be required. There are also very strong rumours that this may be due also to a major player coming in January.

It's a shame because I was looking forward to seeing what Adem could do, from the youtube vids he had a bit of Becks about him. I think we definately need to strengthen - especially if Aguero seals the Chelsea deal.

That was a weird decision. I thought it he was bound to come. He seems to have played well this season with Partizan and he's in their first team... I am kind of disappointed but I'm sure there must be a valid reason why he's not coming.

I've heard that Ferguson said he is fine about current youngs and will wait for them instead of Laljic. And some say Tosic's united career will be ended too. aye.

I'm 95% sure its due to work permit. Money is definitely not an issue. I don't see a reason why we would pull out from the deal. If I were Ljajic I would be in denial. I guess he must have been anticipating this move since january. Should be a major disappointment for him...

EDIT:

Mike Phelan has revealed that paperwork issues were the main reason behind United's decision not to sign Adem Ljajic in January.

Speaking in Friday’s pre-match press conference, the assistant manager said the Reds had been advised that gaining a work permit for the young Serbian may have proved difficult.

“We went down the road of trying to obtain a work permit,” Phelan said. “We made a tentative approach to get one, and what we got back from the Home Office (or these people you deal with) is that we couldn’t get it through in time for when we had to make a decision on Adem in January.”

“The point then is do you lay out the money for Adem when there is the possibility you could or couldn’t get the work permit? We decided it wasn’t the time to do it.

“I’m not sure how we’ve left the situation to be honest, the manager would be better to answer that, but as it stands at the moment Adem Ljajic won’t be joining us in January.”

Rumours have circulated in the press that a lack of funds were responsible for United’s decision to pull out of the deal, but the Reds’ assistant manager was quick to quash that notion. He insisted that the approach to obtain a work permit is proof that money is not an issue.

“It’s not to do with money that I know of, I don’t think it’s an issue. We definitely went to try and get the work permit or made a point to get it and we were told it would be an issue, so we couldn’t make a decision from that point on.”

As I expected, its due to work permit. Not financial issues or whatever. Who knows we might go for him in the summer but you never know. He might be bound to join another team by that time.

EDIT: After thinking about it, I wonder why we have not tried to get him a work permit earlier. That "deal" was made 12 months ago right? We had ample time to sort out these issues. Maybe Fergie was not sure whether it would be a good signing or not. He seems to be a creative midfielder, something we'll be missing when Scholes retire...

Some recent relief. Given how impressed we were of Chelsea's destruction of Arsenal, perhaps isn't anything to worry about considering even City put 3 past them?

I don't think it is a straightforward process getting a work permit, and maybe he simply isn't a big enough improvement on the players we already have to justify paying what is a large fee for a young player. You have to question Tosic future as well, apparently he might have to reapply for a work permit, given that he has rarely featured that might not eventuate.

First post in two years btw, been a long time

Tosic is an international regular, there shouldn't be any problems there.

Personally I find the whole criteria for a work permit stupid. If a club wants to employ a guy, and the wages will be subject to tax - where's the problem?

You don't discriminate like this in other industry sectors, so why in football?

Anyway, another 3:00 kickoff and while traditional, it's bad news for us English based United fans as there is no live TV coverage. And Radio5 is so biased (I'm looking at you Alan Green)

Still at least I get the full 90 on Sunday night.
