I don't like the Ramos rumours. Fantastic short term option but he does not have much to play at his best just like when RvP joined.

Dude he still has 3/4 seasons at his prime. Immediate performance is something you must consider, not only young players for 10 seasons at the club (who leaves to Real Madrid, if they are good enough, in his 3th one).

Ramos is top 3 defender in the world at the moment, great transfer, however, I think it's his tactic to get better contract from Real ... I doubt it happens ...

I like Liverpool transfer policy, buy early ... one of the reasons, Di Maria, Falcao and Fellaini a year before failed to shine was very late transfers and lack of summer training with the rest of the team ...

Edit: ArnauSG, what's the probability of this transfer based on your Spanish sources?

I know he may even have 5 years at his prime because defenders play at their prime a bit later relatively but I would prefer a 25 or 26 y/o. He is 29. I would prefer Hummels.

Hummels might struggle a bit especially while playing in a new league and because of his lack of pace, because as we all know van Gaal likes to play with a high defensive line. That could be a bit risky. While obviously he's a great defender and change of scenery might do him good, I don't think he's the perfect defender for us.

I'd much prefer Sergio Ramos, but he's a bit of an imbecile, and I have no idea how he'd manage with the English language which is one essential thing to a centre-back playing in a British league. But his physique is good, he's tall and I think he'd fit in well. But you'd have to prepare yourself for the occasional yellow/red cards, miscommunication and mistakes. The guy is what? 27-28, but at times when watching him it still looks like he hasn't matured one bit.

I'd prefer Otamendi out of those three, just a bit over Ramos. He's a no nonsense defender, physical, and makes the fact that he's a bit short up by his agressive, and yet effective playstyle, also he's quite fast. I think he'd fare fairly well in the EPL, just like Marcos Rojo whom I had many doubts about at first.

Also he wants to move away from Valencia, likes our club which is pretty important. He's a real beast and pushes his bondaries while defending like there's no tomorrow. 50 million euros is a lot of money, but I guess that's the least you gotta pay if you want a top quality defender nowadays.

Skysports is saying that we are "very interested" in Schneiderlin. I like him but this would be in no way an upgrade to our midfield. Carrick is better than him.

You desperately need a defensive midfielder or have to play the constant percentage football with no risky passes to get results. Its a significant signing and an upgrade. Carrick is nearly finished and injury prone. You don't have a player of Schneiderlin's profile.

And as for Ramos....Man Utd don't have a single top class central defender but Otamendi would be more long term. Ramos gives you an edge in terms of a "star" name in central defense and experience of winning everything along with leadership.

I haven't seen much of Schneiderlin, but the guy is EPL proven and if he's as good as people say he is, then he'd be worth the money I guess. Can't really think of anyone else in that mold who is signable.

Otamendi would also be on much lower wages than Ramos I think, which I think is a plus that I forgot to mention earlier.

Would prefer Gundogan.

Finished? Everytime he has played this season gone he has been outstanding. We play well whenever he plays. He is not "finished" yet but he does not have much to go at his best.

Blind is kind of similar.

Gündogan isn't really a DM, but in terms of ability I'd prefer him as well, as long as van Gaal could mold him into one. Or at least into someone who could play Carrick's role.

Blind seems more like an utility player to me to be honest, he's good, he can play multiple positions (DM, LB and CB in some system), but not really first team material. Excellent backup to have though.

Gundo to Man Utd would be worth watching but he is not a defensive midfielder and Blind is a decent player, nothing special. Yeh, Carrick is awesome and by nearly finished I meant he is aging while prone to injuries.

Gundo and Schneiderlin could be awesome, together.
