Long Balls or Short Passing?

Need some advice.

Keeping in mind that the stat to look at for long balls is Cross Balls not passing, do you think these players are good enough to play the long balls tactic or should I start using short passing?

The way I settle the passing mode is if my players are all bunched together, I use short passing, if there's a distance from each position, long balls.

Cheers little dude. :)

My players are quite close together, plus the fact they are better passers than crossers in general so I've gone for short passing.

Most of your players seem to have more passing than crossballs so I'd use short passing

I have same problem as u actually, came up with tactic for long balls and while the players have good bc, the long passes (cross balls) aren't acurate enough and though in the sim they go to the target (even high bc players can't control them often enough)

I always use short passing. I think my best Cross-Baller has 5 balls, the rest are pants. Up to now, i thought long balls was passing, but Crew say nothing about it! But anyway. my whole team has at least 3 balls in passing each, so thats helpful :)

Sounds of a huge penny clanging to the ground.

AAAAAaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrgggggggggghhhhhhh.

So this explains why my team is doing really well playing long balls except that my 2 strikers with zero balls in cross ball can never control the damned thing. And there was me training them up slowly from 4 to 5 on ball control to try to solve the problem.

What do you think, should I switch my training to cross balls or switch to short passing? Apart from my strikers my players average around 4 in cross balls and 6 in passing.

I think they are trying to receive the long balls but can't control the ball because they are no good at cross balls. Is that wrong?

In all honesty...

Would you associate the CONTROL OF THE BALL with BALL CONTROL or CROSS BALLS??? :crazyboy:

That's crazy talk!

If they're having difficulty receiving the ball, then they either don't have godo enough ability to control it, or the pass was so bad that it was impossible to control anyway.

Defender's are the ones who do most of the long passes (when it goes behind them, they run back and just hoof it back up the field). THEY'RE the ones who need Cross Balls. Not your strikers ;)

I did that as well in my wfo a couple of weeks ago. My team have an average of 2.5 cross balls each :$ My central defender has none but still makes good long passes for my forwards to control well, though. :S
